Artamo Gallery

As a big fan of modern abstract/​expressionist art (Barnett Newman, Helen Frankenthaler, etc.) I was surprised to find Artamo situated amongst the otherwise conservative, landscape-​dominant galleries of the Santa Barbara heartland. My Dad and I walked in on a whim as a part of the 1^st Thursday artwalk event, and we were immediately impressed.
The environment was relaxed, calm, and very unpretentious. Unlike many of the other galleries in the area, no one was there fluttering around bothering you to ascertain your art pedigree, and the champagne was classy and tactful. Although I didn’t get a chance to talk to Jack, the owner, I did have a good conversation with one of their interns, Kai (sp?), and she was both friendly and informative about all the artists they represented.
As we’re thinking of buying some property soon, we can’t wait to come back to Artamo and buy one of their Julia Pinkham’s for our wall. If you’re a modern art aficionado and happen to be in the Santa Barbara area, Artamo is a must-​visit!
