What a great place to stop off on a day in SB. Sarah was super informative. The wines were amazing; there wasn’t one that I didn’t enjoy. Will definitely be back. Plus the music was pretty great as well!

Awesome place, it reminded me of a sports bar but obviously only serving wine! Pretty much my type of hang out place! We were served by Chad, who was awesome at explaining the diff wines and flight list they had. Their cheese n meat plate was super delicious

Great place, music. Wines are ok not great. Majestic is the best. Got a glass of Port too because someone recommended and it’s good. No purchases though. The place is great if you want to hang out. The people are super nice.

Okay,… So after a wine tasting in Nevada just after Christmas last year and while in search of buffalo wings, yes, I was naïve enough to be bamboozled into dropping off at a frikkin’ brothel in Pahrump, but still managed to survive …(check out my «Chicken Ranch» review here: ) So while visiting beautiful Santa Barbara, I thought to myself, «Why not delve into the extraterrestrial realm of things and check out SB’s „Area 5.1 Winery“?» […For what it’s worth, the government has okayed it for me to disclose the location as well as a few highlights provided by way of this establishment, but I urge you all to READQUICKLY as…]: — — – THISMESSAGEWILLSELFDESTRUCT — — – Resting on Anacapa, just affront Oreana Winery within Santa Barbara’s self proclaimed«Funk Zone» and as my saucy fellow Unilocal Elite space cadet sister, Vicki C. stated so humbly within her own assessment of this place, the wines(let alone the ambiance) at Area 5.1 are OUTOFTHISWORLD!!! #restricted-access-only Featured not only within«GQ Magazine», but«LA Magazine» as well, this«classified» tasting room comes highly recommended and/or should you not elect to join their just as classified wine club: * * * * $ 10.00 will afford one a tasting of five; inclusive to this is, 3 reds and 2 whites. The winery’s mantra is: «Boldly going where no winery has gone before», however take my word for it y’all… I’ve been there and frankly, my mind still ain’t quite right… The customer service conveyed by way of the facility’s «alien crew» is top notch, as is the graffiti wall art. Taking things completely out of this world would be the fact that unlike a number of other wineries gracing the galaxy of SB, this place actually serves food; well sorta’. — A cheese tray will run you $ 16.00 and a charcuterie platter, $ 18.00, served with befitting bread/crackers. I was sworn to secrecy, however the($ 9.00) chocolate truffles are duly to die for. Ya’ know, the existence of Area 51, has been a pitifully kept secret for decades now, and if anything, this has managed to fuel the imaginations of conspiracy theorists and UFO hunters around the world. In short, fellow Unilocalers, my theory is that you all let your UFO(or Über) stop here! The jig is up and the secret is no longer; with reference to Area 5.1! Without a doubt is it a MUSTTRY!!! Went for the weekend with the wife to Santa Barbara. Neither of us a winos so we only stopped by two places for some wine tasting. A friend had mentioned this place and pushed for us to visit. We were greeted by Chad and as stated we are not winos but he was very helpful and not snooty about our minimal knowledge at best. He took the time and went over why some wines are sweet or dry and recommended so good options based on the ones we liked. At the end we bought a couple bottles based of his recommendations from the tasting and we have not been disappointed. A great place to feel comfortable and learn.

One of the best wine tasting rooms in the funk zone. They have really great, unique wine blends with top notch service. I highly recommend the wine poured, Sarah, who chatted with us about all sorts of cool things to do in SB.

Really nice people here with good service. They have cheese plates and charcuterie here. Chipped in and bought 3 bottles to share. Service 5 stars. Wine: white did not have much flavor. Red was okay. 3 stars.

My husband and I had a blast at Area 5.1 winery! The wines were great and the staff and environment is what made our experience. Kylie was a doll. We went back the next day to pick up bottles of our favorite white and red and Kylie was in there having a blast cleaning wine glasses and jamming to some tunes. We will definitely be back!

What a fun funky, hip place. Chad was the guy working the day we were there and he is one cool dude. He gave us a great experience. From the wine, to the service to the great music. The wines are unique and very good. It was great to experience a winery that experiments mixing varietals that you typically wouldn’t see. The white wines were very light and lovely. Great for a hot summer day. The red wines were very unique due to the mixing of varietals but they were quite good if you keep an open mind. There was one that was Chianti-esque that would have paired very well with red sauced Italian dishes or a pizza. I’m a huge a Napa fan so I was happy to find wines from the SB region that I like as well. If you are hitting the Funk Zone in SB, make sure you stop by Area 5.1 and get the full flight and enjoy the coolness of this place, the great service and some great wines.

Nice wine-tasting spot with a fun funky theme! 10 bucks for 5 wine tastings which is decent. You get 2 whites and 3 reds. Service was great and I really enjoyed the first two white blends on the tasting menu. The girl at the counter was very informative and gave us great suggestions for touring SB. This is a super chill and fun place to just kick back at the bar and have a chat. YUM!

Im here to do a wine tasting, i wouldve like it if they were alittle more generous in theyre pouring. Not bad though, compared to the other wineries around this area, theyre more on the expensive side. Try out the 2014 Equinox and 2013 Conspiracy Red, my favs here at this location. Have a great Wine Tasting

Sarah is one of the best pourers in town! She is super knowledgeable about wine and gives the highest quality of service you can expect. I have been there at least 4 times while she is on shift, even though it is very busy-she will not loose track and is always on task. I will continue to go back when I have the chance because of the great service Sarah provides. Don’t forget the incredible blends that this tasting rooms has! Great scents and flavors! Worth a try.

It took a push from a friend for me to step into this boutique winery. I was initially turned off by the novelty theme, but all of my haterade dissipated as soon as I tasted their playful blends! Don’t make the same prejudgments I did about this place! These folks are serious about wine and hospitality, which is becoming all too rare in the Funk Zone. If you are lucky you will get Sarah as your wine specialist. Tip her well!

Area 5.1 Winery had a cool interior and theme, but none of the wines were particularly impressive. They also seem rather overpriced for the quality; the cheapest bottle of red wine was a little over $ 30. I ended up buying one more so because I liked the design of the label and the alien theme.

I’ve been here many times now and it is time for me to write a review. I love their selections of wine, but I love the reds more than the whites. All of their wines are blends and my favorite red one is the Collusion and of the whites I really love the Close Encounter. The staff is great and friendly always greet people with a smile. I always ending up meet new people from all over the world. Area 5.1 is a play on words for Area 51 and so there is an extraterrestrial theme that goes with the place. This place is out of the this World. I hope that you also have an extraordinary experience as I have.

Cute place with a funny alien theme because the owners are resident«aliens» from Australia and it’s a collective of 5 owners(wineries?). Service was great and I loved the first two white blends and the two reds we tried in our tasting. The third white was gross, but I can’t recall its name.

Area 5.1 Winery is definitely different from other tasting rooms that I have been to. It has more of a sports bar feel with some funky decorations. Their tasting is 5 for $ 10. Some of the whites were pretty good, but the reds really fell flat for me. Being a red wine fan, it was pretty disappointing. Also, as reviewers mentioned previously, they do pour their wines into the same glass over and over. It gave me the impression that the tasting room cares more about the hip atmosphere than the quality of the wine tasting experience. I will give this place points for experimenting with different varietals. It’s cool to try something different and local. And the value is not too bad. Three stars.

We’ve been here several times and it’s usually a good experience. The staff is friendly and the wine is pretty good. We usually come at the end of the day on Saturday and it’s really busy. Last time, we were here on Sunday around noon and it was empty. The wine is good. First time we were here, it was the end of the day, we bought some wine and weren’t sure if we liked them because we were buzzed or if they were actually good. I tried it sober later on, and it was quite good! Since then, we’ve been back and usually buy some wine. Their Majestic Red(?) and Conspiracy Red(?) are pretty good. We’ve bought those several times now.

Don’t tell anyone, I will claim that I it did not happen. Everything that happens in in Area 5.1 stays in Area 5.1. A frequent subject of the conspiracy theories is that this great wine was really fermented on a UFO, but I am sworn to secrecy. Just because the wine tastes«out of this world» does not prove these theories. The only evidence that I have seen is the funky graffiti art coloring the walls, which are vaguely reminiscent of alien life. I have tested the delicious tastings of wine and the verdict is in. You do not have to travel on the Extraterrestrial highway to sample wines that are out of this world.
