Very expensive restaurant with a nice view and beautiful presentation. Service is spectacular — ask for Moe!!!

We attended an awards banquet here and had a terrific buffet. Service was excellent. Our group had over 100 in attendance and everyone was served well. Good place for a large group. Food is tasty, employees friendly

Way overrated. Everything was pricey. Side salad was $ 6. Slice of pie $ 6. Extra bread? $ 3.50. Save your money and go somewhere else. We only came in because it was the only local place that was open late. Nope, never again.

The San Simeon Restaurant apparently goes by another name on Unilocal as well; San Simeon Bar and Grill I think. Either way, this food was so atrocious and expensive that I HAD to post on Unilocal. The old waitress that served us was very slow and placed the wrong order for one of the people in our party, and the oysters that we ordered as appetizers came AFTER our dinner order. The food was so bad that none of us could finish our meal even though we were very hungry, and it was the most expensive meal of our entire trip!($ 200 for four people) AVOIDTHISPLACE!

Unless it is the only place open at 9:05 p.m.(As it was for us), it at least beats eating from the(connected) Food Mart. Even has a door leading from the main dining room to said food mart. Skip it.

This place is really great. Not sure why it has such a low number of stars. I would totally eat here again. Everything we had was really good. I had the clam chowder soup and it tasted really fresh. My kids had burgers and they tasted good. We had coconut shrimp with a sweet chile sauce and that was great too. The service isn’t the absolute best but the young people that were working there were very nice… I think they just need a little stronger management and /or training.

Walked in, got seated and walked out. The hostess stared at me as I waited for her to instruct me on seating but said nothing to me so I asked, «do we seat ourselves?» and she said, «no,» waited a few seconds and then took us to our table. We sat at out cheap diner table, opened the menu and as we looked at the prices, we decided we wouldn’t even bother. I don’t mind paying for good food and service but this place had 2 stars to begin with, bad service in my first 30 seconds there and was overpriced. I do not recommend it to anybody and would never, ever return.

WE can not recommend this restaurant. Anyone who wants to enjoy a well presented plate, well seasoned tasty hot food and good coffee, should not stop here. The service was below standard, with me having to look for some one to serve two cups of coffee. The host did not know who was our waiter. The host was not friendly and seemed he had a bad night and not focused. We should have left, but we wanted to give the restaurant a chance. The restaurant had little or no costumers, which we could not understand why we were not served in a reasonable amount of time. We had to ask for our waiter. The front of the restaurant did have outdoor tables, but not reasonable comfortable chairs to enjoy the surroundings. It was apparent that the main focus is entertainment with a large bar and stage. This leads us to believe, their focus is not reasonable quality food or the restaurant. WE will NOT come back. We should have gone across the highway to the restaurant next to the Caviler Hotel, which we recommend, for very good meals/service/cocktails. We can not give this restaurant a thumbs up… Liz and Bob, Fresno

The food was awful. All of it. And I’m not that picky. The hubs, who is much pickier, keeps asking if I’ve written this review. It means a lot to him that other people have fair warning about this place. We’d have been more satisfied with our dinner if we had eaten a bag of peanuts from the little store next door(and had I known, I would have).

came here for dinner and ordered clam chowder and Mediterranean chicken. clam chowder was a little salty and tasted like it was served out of a can. mediterranean chicken was EXTREMELY salty. after sending the chicken back, I can’t believe the server said, «that’s just how it is because we marinated overnight. I like it really salty like that.» hmmm, okay. that’s not an excuse for an inedible salty chicken.

Overpriced and mediocre food. Extremely slow service. Gets two stars because they poured stiff drinks in the bar area

This place isn’t even worthy of ONE star. All the reviews are awful and they are all true. We only went here because everything else in this dead stretch on the 1 was closed and we were starving. We didn’t even mess around with most of the menu because it wasn’t worth our time. The bf and I split some chicken strips and something else that was pretty unmemorable. The food was just bland and cold. The bread that we were served when we started was disgusting too. Nothing was worth boxing up and taking back to our hotel room. If I were you, I’d rather go to the liquor store down the street and grab some snacks because even a bag of chips would taste better than anything served here.

I can’t really recommend this restaurant. We were served with hot bread rolls which tasted extremely sour. I’ve had sourdough before, but this is really sour… and I don’t think this is supposed to be sourdough bread. Clam Chowder, a recommended soup on the chalkboard, tasted like a mixture of mushroom soup and some clam chowder soup straight from Campbell’s soup can, but the flavor leaned heavily toward the mushroom soup side. Italian Pizza with sweet peppers — the meat was completely bland, but the sweet peppers were indeed sweet. Salmon — the fish was also bland and not fresh and the side vegetables which were consisted of broccolis and carrots were also bland… I’ve never had bland vegetable before, so I never thought this was possible. Pacific Coast Scampi — squid did not taste like squid at all and tasted bland. Possibly monkfish. Halibut was bland, but shrimp was ok. Services was ok and restaurant was busy, so I don’t blame the waitstaff for being inattentive, but the quality of food is unacceptable at this price. I gave 2 stars because the service was ok.

Good mexican influenced breakfasts. The décor is 70’s spanish, with rose colored vinyl chairs, kind of weird — but for breakfast you just gaze out at the ocean view! Staff were friendly and service was good!

Place is actually called San Simeon Beach Bar and Grill but by any name it SUCKS! I have nothing but bad things to say about this place. The wine is horrible, the service was awful, the host who sat us put us in a lousy table but the couple who came in after us got a nice seat by the window — I will also mention that their waiter was with them immediately, they got their food before our order was taken and they had paid and left by the time we got our appetizer. My dinner was inedible which I sent back and what does the management do? Charges me for it… Unreal!!! Do Not Go HERE!

Arrived around 8.30am for breakfast. Just a few customers. Limited staff had the two wait persons very busy. We were seated immediately and service was prompt but not rushed. Coffee was OK. Breakfast was good and portions were plentiful. I could seem soem folks were a little antsy expecting faster service. Our service was and good. Friendly and helpful but spread a little thin. Since we had plenty of time before out Hearst Castle tour, we were not in a rush and were happy with the experience. Other customers were overly impatient and rather rude and unfriendly to the staff, Clearly urban dwellers who are used to being rushed through restaurants. I wished they could slow down a little and appreciate the large, open view to the ocean. I think there were several folks, like us, staying one night in San Simeon to be close to Hearst Castle. I think a couple days is needed to learn to slow down and get on coastal time. It is slower and more relaxed. Don’t be in a city rush.

After having food posioning from the fish and chips I won’t be going back. My husband had the fried chicken which was a half a chicken but was a dry. My daughter had the ABC burger which was very good. The crab cakes for a starter was also good.

I’ve eaten here a few times before while passing through and although a bit pricey(but that seems to be the norm for San Simeon overall) the food was ok. I was just here a few days ago, and while staying at the adjoining San Simeon Lodge(good value but paper-thin walls) ate dinner here over New Year’s weekend. The place was actually packed, whereas in the past, it was always nearly empty. Anyway, I don’t know if it wasn’t the regular cook but this time everything was over-salted to the point of being almost inedible. Service was okay for being so busy when they don’t usually get so busy. Food took maybe 30 – 40 mins to arrive.
