I love this place! Cheapest food you can get in San Rafael. I love the regular carne asada burrito. Only $ 6 and you get chips and three different delicious salsas! They have containers you can take to go as well.

I love the wet burritos here. The burritos are huge and super filling. Always a nice staff and it’s a typical taqueria.

Good: this place serves home made authentic Mexican cuisine. You can select from most of the traditional meats and sauces that you would expect plus additional chickens, chorizo and tripe. I had guacamole with chips and a wet chicken burrito. The guac was delicious, but a little thin for me. I think they mix it with some verde salsa. The burrito was above average and it was served covered in sauce and guac which was perfect for me. About the size of a Qdoba burrito. Service: there isn’t too much to say here. You order at the counter and they bring you your food when it’s ready. Polite enough. Atmosphere: looks like a hole in the wall and I’m surprised I actually went there, but some locals convinced me to avoid the tourist traps. I’d go back if in the area and looking for Mexican, but this place is a little authentic for me. I tend to prefer more American Mexican if that makes sense. Of course San Fran has lots of great places to select from as well so we shall see. Thanks again for an enjoyable meal.

People around here havent had a good taco in years and when they eat one from this place they think its the best or maybe theres not alot of taquerias around here. They go by the buddy system if you got there first but youre not a friend you will not be dispatched first. Salsas are too salty specially the green one red one tastes like ketchup with onions. Tortilla chips are stale. Microwaved tortillas for your tacos and salty meat. Wont see me back here forsure.

Legit meats. Cabeza hella good fat content. Good amounts of la crema and guac. Tortilla I like super steamed and just ripping off type of way… but their tortilla is fine especially the generous portions inside make up for it. Good value. Best restaurant so far for me in San Rafael.

Taqueria San Jose is one of the best taquerias that I have been to in the Bay Area. I have lived in the Bay Area for the past 18 years and I have tried a variety of taquerias and other Mexican restaurants. Coming from Mexican roots, I know the taste of authentic Mexican food. This place has cooks that are very familiar with Mexican ingredients and know how to implement them in their recipes. I usually go on Sunday mornings and it is always full. The pricing is fair and it is not expensive at all. I look for large portions and that is another reason why I like this place so much. It just can’t get any better, they serve great food in large portions and at a very affordable price. Every time I go, I am always welcomed by the staff. The service is awesome and get the order within 10 minutes. This place also has private parking, so parking is not a problem.

The food here is excellent; super authentic, and very affordable. The have a lovely fresh salsa bar and will give you more than one helping of chips for no charge. They also serve fresh squeezed juice– orange and carrot I believe. The downside? The service. It sucks. Try to order something different than what’s on the menu– like a bean taco or anything with no cheese– and they will stare at you like you’re speaking in tongues, finally PRETEND to understand what you mean, and then proceed to bring you the wrong thing– and they will act like YOU have the problem if you attempt to send it back. It’s terrific food but be warned, you’ve gotta fight for it. It’s also pretty loud and busy in there so if you’re looking for a quiet, peaceful atmosphere you should skip it. Still… it’s damn good food.

Our golf group of eight suggested coming after a game of golf on a Thursday for burritos. Sure why not. As we drove over from Peacock golf course, we followed our GPS directions. Oops, just passed it. Situated on the corner by the freeway underpass. We tried to park in the commuter park and ride lot. Bad idea. No spaces. We exited on the other side and had to drive two blocks more as there’s several one way streets. Saw later there was a parking lot behind the restaurant. Finally we parked and walked over with a friend. I’m starving by now. It’s around 2pm. My eyes scan the menu board above. Pay $ 6 for a regular burrito or $ 7 for a super burrito? Go for the super burrito. It comes with guacamole and sour cream. Carne Asada is a safe bet. Ordered and paid at the counter. Given a number. Found a table. Headed over to the tortilla chip and salsa help yourself station. Gobbled so many chips that by the time my super burrito comes, I’m full. I ate less than half. The burrito must have weighed a pound. It’s like two burritos you’d get elsewhere. So many people are unable to finish that there is a conveniently placed roll of Costco size aluminum foil on the counter for your use. Our entire group wrapped up our half eaten burritos for home. And these were a bunch of guys! I’d come again if ever in the area.

When you want late night burrito the size of a football, then Taqueria San Jose’s got you covered. Now keep in mind, «late night» by Marin standards is 9pm. But still, these guys totally hooked me up with a delicioso chicken burrito(stuffed with pinto beans, salsa, sour cream, lettuce) and a Sprite for about $ 8. Located beneath a freeway overpass, this taqueria has been a San Rafael mainstay for years. This is definitely where the locals(both gringos and Mexicans) come for their burrito fix. The place ain’t fancy, and the menu is pretty basic(you’ve got tacos, burritos, enchiladas, nachos, and that’s pretty much about it). But the food is solid, the service is friendly, and you’re in and out within 5 minutes(unless you go during the lunch-time rush hour).

Good sauces with the complementary chips. I had a super burrito and it was super big and super tasty. Highly suggest this place because of the low prices and large amount of food it provides. Lost a star because of poor ambience.
