On the way back from wine country we wanted to go to Sol. But of course — as always it had a line out the door… a quick Unilocal search led us across the street to this little gem with a 4.5 star rating. «Well hello little darlin’, and your $ 4 happy hour margaritas!» — there are many $ 5 happy hour appetizers. AND also a free guacamole with a Unilocal check in, FANTASTIC! They have handmade tortillas — made by a little lady up front, about 8 kinds of mole. My friend said she had the best michelada she’s has ever had. I got a mole sampler, you get to choose your meat– chicken thighs or boneless breast and up to 4 different moles.(YUM), My man had the best thing at the table, a stuffed poblano pepper with chicken and pineapple and a crazy good cream sauce. My other friend had the ceviche and the tortilla soup(which we all agreed had too many green peppers — but also and ½ of a huge avocado on top– which she liked). This was a really good find and a great value! — look out Sol — Los Moles is coming for ya!

OK, so I don’t know if I can add much to what people have said here, so I will just says that they’re right! The place is like you stepped into a romantic notion of what Mexican Food should be like in a warm and welcoming and impeccable restaurant in Mexico… better yet, like somebody’s home! The food and flavors are rich and fresh. A woman stands at a table in the dining room, near the front, and hand makes the tortillas! That’s homey! The Taco Tuesday is a great alternative to cooking at home on a work night. The guacamole side order was an ample portion, made fresh to order. Honestly, I don’t get all the hubbub about the Sol Food(it’s ok) when there’s such a great place right across the street… with spices! I chuckle to myself a little each time I step right into Los Moles and see the diehards on line for an hour across the street.

Something has changed since my first review. I popped in for lunch today and the buffet bar. The spark seemed to be gone from the flavor. Not enough seasoning on anything. The tortillas seemed thicker. The habanero mole had just A hint of pepper. Beans were a little heavy. I saw a couple items marked gluten free but no mention that the chicken was organic or the corn products were non GMO. *a quick chat w the waiter — he says they still use organic chicken and corn products. Just wish they would state that clearly

If a buffet died and went to heaven, it would turn into this buffet. Each mole is beautiful in its own way — please try at least one bite of each of them. The beautiful salad, fresh melons and salsa taste even better than they look in their displays. Don’t leave without tasting the Mexican coffee that you’ll ladle out of a huge copper pot into a mug. This place is heaven on earth for anyone who appreciates Authentic Mexican Cuisine.

i definitely make sure i go to Los Moles when i’m in the vicinity. Free chips and 3 types of salsa?! Am I in Texas?! Haven’t tried the brunch buffet but it looks promising… and acid-reflux inducing…

Man the only thing I have to say bad about this place is that I’m personally 400+ miles too far to enjoy brunch anytime soon! Basically the buffet is all the mole you can feast on and more. I loved all of them but the poblano mole was my personal favorite. Of course there’s other things you can have like beans and rice and veggies. Oh, and there was amazing flan in these adorable little cups(so you know, you can have like, five – right!?) and holy crap coffee in a BIGASSBOWLWITHLADLE. You need to have that coffee. All that for $ 17.00, YESPLEASE!

Yum – Los Moles is a great addition to the downtown. I really appreciated the variety of food here and the flavors; it’s different than what you can get for the most part in San Rafael, which is taqueria food. Los Moles has great drinks, like the micheladas, and to be able to order different moles and to eat nopales with your food instead of just refried beans and rice is refreshing. My visit wasn’t 5-star – some of the food was cold, and it’s expensive for what you get – but I’m already looking forward to going back.

Holy moles! This place is completely unbelievable. I’m asking myself, I’m asking the gods, did I really just have a $ 17 mole buffet featuring three great kinds of pork and carne asada? Yes, I say and si say los dios! Truly great moles, and, yes, they are«hecho en casa» — made in house. The one I love the most of all is their Mama Mia Mole. But the variety of the buffet make it a bruncher’s delight. I’m just plain impressed with the entire operation. Great food and excellent service from the moment I walked in the door. So how soon can I get back here? Guess I’ll try to make it back for Taco Tuesdays — because they have an incredible deal — it’s $ 12 for all-you-can-eat tacos. What else can I say? Holy moles!

The tilapia with spinach is to die for. The tamarind margarita is a must have. The staff is great. I didn’t care much for the clay water glasses.

Excellent spot! We came for taco Tuesday and happy hour double deal!!! It was excellent with 4 different tacos to chose from and the best damn tortillas I’ve ever had it was mouth watering. Not to mention the margaritas made to order(cucumber was best) … Wow wow, we will be back without a doubt!

Truly an amazing find in the heart of Marin. I’ve been living in San Rafael for a long time and I love Mexican food which is great since there is so much of it, but what there isn’t is a truly authentic place that goes beyond the beans and rice. I do have my favorite over the the east bay, but nothing so close to home and so well executed. You may have walked by this place a few times and wondered, or you might have visited the previously Mexican restrung in this location, but if you haven’t tried Los Moles yet you really need to. Things are what you might expect, but they are better.

Gosh o golly, but this place is GOOOOOOOD. Mexican, but with a very fresh twist. Lovely presentation of food, lively combination of spices, and the most wonderful chips in all the land. The setting is quaint; the service attentive. I ordered the poblano chili stuffed with chicken — delightful, flavorful, moist, satisfying. The hub ordered(as he always does) the chili relleno — tons of flavor and very cheesy. Tortillas are made on the spot! We will be back.

The margaritas here are on point! The chips are a tad small when dipping in the spicy exquisite salsas but I made due. The mole platter I had was to die for!!! My only gripe is that there was helllllllla tiny bones throughout the chicken but the mole sauces were so scrumptious I honestly wouldn’t mind chewing the bones like bubble gum.

Wow– feels like you’re eating in Mexico– complete with authentic pottery type dishes, cups, etc. We went for the Sunday buffet. $ 18 a person, I believe($ 10 for kids). The aqua frescas(included) were refreshing(strawberry or cucumber). Two types of beans, rice and 7 different types of mole. That’s right, 7! They were very tasty. I just had the most incredible mole in Orangevale(of all places!), so I was on a mole high. These were delicious, but didn’t blow me away. Maybe I still still full from our late breakfast. Plus, I’m Asian. Can Asians really judge authentic Mexican food?! I do eat and cook more Mexican than Asian though :). And speak it, so that’s gotta count for something, comprende! I would definitely return if I was in the area. However, I also like Sol Food across the street, so I guess it would depend on my mood. If you’re really hungry, check out the buffet at Los Moles Hecho En Casa– great deal for fresh, authentic, delicious food. Arriba!

I attempted to go to the infamous Sol Food but I have zero patience to wait on that line. Honestly, this place has some unique offerings. However the service is extremely slow. My drink was forgotten and also I question the clay mugs to drink out of. They aren’t glazed and In my opinion aren’t satnitary. I will be back and I am happy to update if my experience is better.

Hello. We haven’t met before or if we have it’s been awhile. Just for starters, in case you’re at all inclined to discard this note as it seems I don’t have anything bad to say about anything just a little point of clarification. Because it’s important that you don’t discount this for an assumption that’s off the mark. Because this place is good and you should give it a try(cheers) so just this little affirmation first: I have all sorts of not fabulous stuff that I could say about the not fabulous experiences. I just elect to not talk about that because why dwell on something that isn’t fabulous for a second longer than you need to? Mind, I get that some folks like to be a lighthouse for the other boats and that’s grand and some people might just be bitter little pills and that’s ok too. Just announce yourselves and all will be well with the world. Escuchame, then. Por favor. Escuchame and escuchame bien. Did I roll my car on the way here and end up in heaven instead of a restaurant(unlikely)? We literally had no idea this was here and I was almost blind from the hunger and could have eaten cardboard and did not feel like a buffet and was just wishing I had chloroplasts as it was a sunny day and plants don’t ever have to make a decision and how fair is that. We just went in because deciding is a drag and holy cow. In the back was a room full of pots steaming mole with the various meats and some with none. At least eight different kinds. And sopa. And ensalada. And chips plantains salsas rice two kinds of beans fresh fruit horchata flan sugary delights coffee and tea and other fixins and probably a bunch of stuff I am not remembering. My stomach is grumbling right now I am not kidding you. Down the block from where I toil to make things like this possible is another Los Moles and it’s always been good to me. But this Sunday brunch oh man, so good. There is zero question that I will be coming back. It could be in Willits and I’d still go every Sunday. This is serious. Go.

Drove from Oakland to go to Sol Food and saw this new spot. Took a peek at the menu. They have 7 different types of mole so we have it a shot. Holy shit this place is amazing. I got the habanero mole with vegetables and it was so good. The Huarachitos were also excellent, really nice balance of flavors. I’ve traveled around Mexico a lot and had amazing moles in Oaxaca, and I’d put their«Mole Mama Luisa» red mole up with the best I’ve had. Definitely happy with the gamble to go here instead of Sol Food. Lovely people and great service too.
