What a gem to find. The food was really good. I had the brisket and sausage. The location is not on a main road and if I didn’t see the advertising sign I would have never found the place. The layout is really cool. Outside and inside eating. Very rustic looking. The only negatives for me is that you have to order your food separately from your beer. When you do make it to the bar the beer is cold and the staff is really cool. Will be back next time I am in the area.

Pretty good. I liked the sides better than the meat. The creamed corn and Mac was awesome. They get an A for presentation of the meat but not my favorite bbq. And skip the chopped brisket it was terrible. Spent to much money on it also.$ 20 for one plate of food for bbq lunch was a bit overpriced.

Very rarely am I someone to complain… I love all kinds of food and mediocre service doesn’t bother me. I am service industry so my tolerance is much higher than the average person. Anyhow, I came in this evening since this was a pet friendly restaurant! They had a very cool patio set up with Giant Jenga and Cornhole. I was stoked since it was my family of 3 and my 4 legged fur baby. Very interesting set up when ordering… Grab and prepare your own sides and then order your meats with the cutter. I was super excited to try their BBQ considering they had such high reviews. We ordered some lean brisket, fatty brisket and spare ribs for our meats. Great value for the amount of food we got so that was a plus! We head outside to eat on the patio and possibly play some games afterwards… But unfortunately we were practically getting raped by flies. A sh*t ton of flies, as if there was a corpse laying around somewhere near. I wish they had something to repel those flies. I’ve never been at any outdoor restaurant and had to deal with such a huge problem with flies. I’ve been to Clays in Houston where they have ponies, peacocks, pigs and etc with no flies. Some of these flies bite and they made me itchy as hell. It was so bad we boxed up our food within 5 minutes of sitting out there and decided it was best to eat in our hotel room. So it’s a bummer we couldn’t utilize their patio games. So finally we get to eat our food with no disturbances and honestly… It’s okay. I’d give it a solid 6 on a scale of 1 – 10 being the best. Nice smoke ring on the brisket but not a lot of deep flavor. Ribs were cooked beautifully but a tad on the salty side. So overall… I think if they could work on the fly problem this place would be great. Don’t let me forget! The staff was super sweet and friendly :) maybe next time!

The sausage is amazing really melts in your mouth. Good amount of sides. Brisket is really good quite smoky and really tender. BBQ sauce is peppery not too sweet. Customers service is amazing. I would have liked the potato salad to be house made. I think its the mustard one from heb which is also good. Highly recommend it.

Great BBQ to be found here, especially when you don’t have time to run out to Lockhart for BBQ.

Absolutely fantastic! Service was great. Staff was friendly. Process is easy… you serve your own sides, then order your meat. It was a lot more affordable than I imagined. 2 half chickens, 5 sides & one drink cost me just over $ 18.00& the food was amazing! The chicken was lean & had very little fat. There was a great live blues grass band as well. We will definitely be back. I regret not coming here sooner.

Yum, yum. I’m lovin’ all the barbecue in Austin and had never tried Kent Blacks. Four of us went there today and loved it. The sides were varied and delicious. The brisket was so juicy and tender, I was sure I was in heaven. I loved the beans, creamed corn, and special cabbage almost as much as the brisket and sausage! And let’s not forget the outstanding service where you feel you just walked into a friend’s home for dinner. We will be back again and again!

Yaaas! Amazing, amazing bbq. Pack up your own sides then line up to get loaded down with the main event, all that delicous, moist, melt in your mouth smoked meats. Don’t forget the cobblers to go.

Yum yum yum in my tum! Loved this place! Came here during May graduation time and it wasn’t as packed as I expected. At first I was expecting this place to taste just like Rudy’s barbecue which I’m not a huge fan of but I was pleasantly surprised to have loved this place! They even gave our graduate the choice of either getting a free hat or t-shirt!

I’m a huge BBQ fan, have judged events and have been a visitor to other Black family restaurants in the past but this one just isn’t the same. The flavor is different in the brisket and the cooking isn’t always spot on. i’ve been a few times and I can’t tell if the beef is just overcooked or if it is a day old sometimes. When it is good, it is very good but at times something just isn’t right with the overall texture and freshness of the brisket. The ribs have been overcooked at times(falling off the bone instead of «watermelon bites») and the seasoning is a bit inconsistent there as well. It might the the moisture content in the wood as there is sometimes a much higher taste of smoke than others. Sides are ok and could use a bit of flavor pump-up to make them more exciting and different. Staff is friendly but you can tell they get a bit tense when it gets busy. The owner is often there and very friendly as well. The outdoor area is a big draw and great for families.

Great stop for lunch heading to SM! Came on a Saturday around lunch and it wasn’t crowded. Great patio area with about 15 picnic benches and umbrellas. You order by the pound for meats except sausage and all the sides are a set price. Had the sausage and brisket and it tasted great. Prices are decent for the amount of food you get.

Tasty stuff, tasty stuff. Holy moly, have I missed Texas BBQ. Kent Black’s is the real deal – I honestly wouldn’t say best I’ve ever had, but it was a great option for me and my friends after a day out and about in San Marcos. Recommend!

This place was so good! Came in on a quiet sunday afternoon and tried out a variety of the meat: lean brisket, spare ribs, original sausage, jalapeño cheddar sausage, and a HUGE rib. The food was some of the best BBQ I have ever had. The staff was super friendly. The beer is craft and cold. What’s not to love about the place?!

Best items here: baby back ribs, moist brisket, mac and cheese(w/bacon), sweet tea, draft beer. Items to try: Beef ribs? I’m a sucker for those. Items I could do without: The cole slaw(was not my fav, but I’m here for the meat) I enjoy the atmosphere here and each time I go, I’m with good company, so I would rate this place 6 stars if I could.

Wow… Good food and super friendly staff. All the sides are buffet style and self serve. I grabbed a bacon mac n cheese and coleslaw… They were both great. The meat is sold by weight, and they have a ton of options. I’m usually a pulled pork fab but they don’t have that. They gave us a sample of the jalapeño cheddar sausage and it was so good I bought one, and I got three slices of brisket. I had a bite of ribs too and everything was awesome. Definitely recommend this place!

Easy to find cool old building, and a full bar are the pluses of this place. The meat was good but not great, and not warm enough, sausage was even cool to the touch. The potato salad was super sweet as was the coleslaw. Think I will head back to Hays County BBQ for an all around better experience.

Awesome beef Rib, turkey, cream corn, sweet potato dessert, etc. Humongous and tender Beef rib, tender and delicious Turkey, smooth and tasty cream corn with a little ‘bite’, cooked Cabbage & bacon(my wife loved it), Coleslaw, and and. I could go on all day. We’re from San Antonio here visiting the Outlet Mall and discovered this place. «Where have been all my life?» is what we kept saying. We’ll be back. (P.S. I had to take the Beef Rib home. Only finished half of it. Hahaha.)

Well, we have nothing like this in California but if we did I would be tempted to eat here everyday! We had baby back ribs, lean brisket, jalapeño sausage of some sort, creamed corn, chipotle cole slaw and beans!!! It was all delicious ! The staff was very friendly.
