Everything was super delicious. Got a family meal take-out, and the chicken was still piping hot after a 20+ minute drive home.

NOT a fan. I was here a few months back, and ordered I believe the tender meal. It was flavorless, and way over my budget. I live in Austin so I assume this place is like Gold to the locals there. But I think not. Chicken was luke warm. Bland. Flavorless. Overpriced. Lame welcome. Something told me to go not even a light further up to the Church’s Chicken. at least I would have known what to expect… since it’s a chain and all. Needless to say, I paid double. almost triple what I would have paid at other chicken places. Won’t be back. Sorry.

I love this place. This is a local spot, when I first was taken here, I was like really? The building is so dingy – but the chicken was amazing. This is the best fried chicken in all of San Marcos and the prices are reasonable. On occasion – the gripe I here from people is that they got cold chicken, I personally have never gotten cold chicken. Service is fast too.

I went here for the first time with some friends the other day, and we were all pretty impressed. I got dark meat with fries and a biscuit, and my food was hot and delicious! The biscuit looked like a normal roll or something, but it was actually really good, especially with honey. The fries were good, too. My friends got tenders, which were only lukewarm, but still decent. Also, the corn nuggets(deep fried cream corn), which aren’t on the menu, were really good! If you go here, get them, and try them with gravy. Another friend got macaroni and cheese, which looked sketchy and wasn’t good at all. Overall, Gil’s has pretty good food, even if it’s a bit expensive. The tenders meal with two sides and no drink comes out to more than $ 8, but my one piece meal with fries(also no drink) was around $ 4.

It’s the best fried chicken in skid Markus texas. It’s way better than churches kfc or chicken express. Sides and all are very good the gizzards livers and strips need I say more. If you want good fried chicken this is the spot.

Not happy to have paid almost $ 20 for soggy, cold chicken. Also, they forgot to put my side in my box. Never going back to Gil’s.

Hold on to your wallet and study that menu. Oh and make sure you stop in when it is full or you may end up with cold food you don’t want to send back. I will say if you het hot fresh food it is good. Skip the corn on the cob it has never had any flavor.

This place is awesome. Well priced, and good chicken. I usually just get the 3 piece mixed but sometimes I get the cat fish. The biscuits are really good too. The staff is very friendly and prompt. I can say the same for both locations as well.

I ordered the livers and gizzards and cole slaw. Loved the livers & particularly the gizzards, which were not overcooked like most places that think you have to render them into jerky. Cole slaw was decent. Service was great. Best L & G I’ve had in a VERY long time. Can’t wait to try the chicken.

It’s iight. Mostly preferred Chicken Express for 2 reasons: #1: The 4-piece Chicken Tenders combo is $ 8 while it’s a dollar and a couple change at CE #2: Big pieces of chicken, but not as good as CE’s tenders. Even the fries at CE blows these away. Fools on Vine saying«A potato flew around my room.» Well, these fries got flung in the trash cuz they weren’t that great. If I don’t need ketchup that’s a sign of me luvin the food. I had 2 use the whole bottle. TBH, the chicken was OK, but I still prefer Chicken Express.

Good fried chicken! I got the tenders meal with Mac n cheese and a drink. The hubby got the super tenders meal with fries and a sweet tea. The chicken: perfect flavor. Cooked just right in a lightly crunchy but mostly flaky(think biscuits) batter. Dry on the outside(I hate when you pick up friend chicken and oil runs down your fingers) and moist on the inside. Just a damn good tender. Biscuits: great texture. Tasted delicious with butter. Good spring when you bite into it! Fries: on the softer side. I like them this way, but the hubby likes them crunchy so he was not impressed. Add some salt before you bite in! Mac n cheese: this was great. It had a really interesting flavor — I couldn’t put my finger on it but it was a cheese I’ve tasted before and never would have thought to add it to my Mac n cheese. It looks like some Luby’s MNC at first glance but the consistency of the cheese is a bit thicker and just tastes awesome! Gravy: good flavor, but it could have used more flour as it was a bit thin. Sweet tea: the only downside! The tea just tasted old :(not bad enough to deduct a whole star, but I’ll take Bill Miller sweet tea over this any day! All in all: I will be back… I’ll just have a Dr Pepper with my meal.

This is our absolute favorite go-to spot for fried chicken in Texas! Everything is always made to order and tastes like heaven. The staff are very diligent and sweet with customers, even when the place is packed! I highly recommend this spot for people who appreciate good quality food at a next to nothing price. The fries aren’t salted enough but that’s alright because most people prefer little to no salt these days.
