I am devastated to see that they closed! I didn’t get to have one last brunch there :/ Their coffee cake was absolutely amazing and went perfectly with their yummy skillets. They will be greatly missed.

Delicious, mid-to-upper-scale food. A bit on the pricey side, but quite nice presentation and a sweet manager who will come chat with you tableside. Don’t forget to mention Unilocal!for the discount, and come at lunch for reduced prices on menu items :)

Ate at the Corner View with my husband and 2 kids. Upon arrival we were greeted by the hostess who was very friendly. We were promptly led to our table offered a high chair for our daughter(15 months) and let us keep our stroller up at the front hostess stand. We were waited on right away(with in 5 min) then placed our order. We received our food within 10 min. The food was good not outstanding but good. The service was good as well. It is also kid friendly if you have a family of 4. Ask for a table near the window it is a nice view as the name of the restaurant suggests. Nice place to eat lunch. We arrived at 1:30pm on a Saturday and it was not too busy. I would recommend this place to anyone.

My fiancé and I spent the last few days in San Louis Obispo area. We stumbled upon this place after having a drink at a near by hotel(our waitress actually recommended it saying the prices were much better). I expected just a little buger/pizza joint, but this was much more! The menu is wonderful. They offer a wide variety of different foods. I had their mediterranean plate and it was awesome, not too much olive oil, but plenty of flavor. My fiancé ordered their special for the day — mahi mahi beer battered tacos and loved it(AMAZING avocado sauce!). Not only was the food good, but they have an amazing wine list. I love my wine, but I have a hard time going out and spending 75% more for a bottle than i would pay for it at the wine store down the street from me. The prices here were so reasonable!!! We got a nice bottle of Spanish dry rose and it was only $ 18! We ended up talking to Bill(the owner) a little about the wines and the place and you could tell this is definitely a restaurant where the owner puts his heart and soul into it and it shows. If you want to take the family out or have a great date night, definitely need to try this place. You will not be disappointed.

The ambiance was very nice and the service was good. Unfortunately, of the five dinners we ordered, two were just not very good. The seafood came out good, but the pork was blah. The stroganoff was greasy and poor. Overall, I was not impressed, but I would be willing to give it a second chance if someone else paid.

Update 10/12/2010: Corner View is now closed — big«For Lease» sign in the window. Such a bummer. I started coming here for the bar and happy hour(they still have the best bar burger in town). Now I mostly go for the dinner. I like the new menu — it’s a nice mix of low and high end. You can come in for a burger and fries on the low end for under $ 10 or have a really nice high end dinner for 2 – 3 times that. Wine and beer list is fantastic, and the bar has a nice lounge area and its own appetizer menu.

I’m pretty consistently disappointed by this place. Food. There is a wide range of dishes: Mexican, American, French, Italian, Asian. I can see that it appeals to a wide audience. Perhaps it’s just the dishes I’ve ordered that are slightly off. I feel like the food is just a little bland. Desserts, however, are still quite nice. Wine and Beer. Not a bad selection. In fact, I will probably just visit for the wine deals. Half off a bottle on Tuesday. Wow. Good deal. Not a bad beer selection either. Service. Good service. Very tall water boy. Ambiance. It’s tasteful, modern in a classic way, and clean. I like the location a lot. Lovely arching windows. The photographs on the wall of what the town looked like before are a nice touch, they also include pictures of what the building looked like. Yeah, this is a wine and dessert place. I’ll go have dinner somewhere else.

This is one of those times that I wish Unilocal would allow half star reviews, as Corner View is a solid 3 and a half star eatery. We ate brunch yesterday and the experience was very good. Like Lisa R. said, sometimes it can be a coin flip. My roasted vegetable salad was huge and delicious. My wife had the french toast breakfast and said it was great. Service was pleasant and fast. We sat next to the window for an afternoon of people watching in SLO. We’ve eaten here since it was Linn’s and we really like the location.

My husband and I have enjoyed many brunches here since 2005. Back then, the coffee cake was the best ever! The texture and flavor was purple-ribbon worthy. Then that cook moved and the new cooks have not quite nailed it the way this cook did. It’s still a huge piece of good coffee cake, but nothing like the superior way it was in 2005. Perhaps the coffee cake reflects how we feel about eating at Corner View. There are moments of very good moments, and then there are not so good moments. We don’t brunch here as often now, and today was one of those mornings — as far as flavor goes — that was not so good. The hollandaise sauce was acidic and seemed to have white pepper(or was the paprika hot?) in it. The food looked great, but it didn’t taste as good as it looked. We’ve eaten lunch and dinner here a few times. We’re not fans of the burgers. The Stroganoff and Meatloaf are good. And they have some interesting specials. The staff have always been very friendly and attentive… no complaints about the service. I know locals who love Corner View, especially the bar! I’d say it’s good, but not one of my local favorites.

Everyone had told my hubby and I to go to the SLO farmer’s market and get some BBQ while we were on our honeymoon. My pops warned us to get there early so we could find a parking space. So we headed out and arrived around noon. No one told us that it didn’t start until 6:30 at night! So there we were, in downtown San Luis with hours to kill, money dance funds in our wallets, and increasing hunger. We searched for a restaurant that looked like they knew what they were doing and settled on Corner View. The atmosphere was pleasing. A little fancy, yet no where near trendy. Just how I like it. Our service was excellent. Personal, attentive, speedy. Really cute server, too! We ordered… well, I don’t remember exactly it was. Some kind of a turkey sandwich with cranberries on it. Or close to that. Super yummy! Prices were not cheap, but definitely not outlandish. I hope to return to Corner View on my next visit up north so I can try out a new dish!

I’ve been to Corner View 5 – 6 times now and it’s pretty hit or miss. Last night the service was really really slow and the restaurant wasn’t very full. I haven’t found the recommendations by the staff to be too good either, seem like I have to pull information out of them. The food has highlights and low lights. Avoid the burgers, go to Motav for those. Also the Caesar is something you could find in a cafeteria. Kinda Good: Roasted Chicken Meatloaf Steak Worth Having: Duck Quesadilla Black Top Sundae

I was a regular here, while I lived in SLO. Pretty much because it was one of the most reasonable places in downtown. I won’t say the food is the best, I would say that it’s good for the price. Portions are pretty big though, and they have a full bar. So that’s always a good thing :) Local art is changed every month on the wall, and their wine list changes periodically. The owners are GREAT, very personable, and the manager is as well. Always felt welcomed there. It was great to watch the cubs game there too! Even though I was the only fan in the whole place! I miss this place.

Nice little place on the corner. Romantic for dinners. Pros: –4 course meals –Appetizer, salad, and the dessert was GREAT! –Ambiance(dimmed, with candle light and white christmas lights) –The pace which they brought out the food was perfect. Cons: –Service was okay, I would have expected more from this higher end place. –Did not get refills. –Gave us the wrong orders twice. –Was expect the main part of the meal to taste as great as the appetizer, salad and dessert but was sadly disappointed!

Corner View is *the* place to grab dinner and late night drinks if you want sophistication and to avoid the college crowds and the redneck crowds that tend to dominate SLO. This place is classy and elegant without being stuffy, and it keeps a moderate, fun volume without being too quiet or loud. Food and drinks are a bit more expensive than the other typical downtown haunts, which sucks if you’re broke like me, but it was nice to visit once in awhile when I could afford it. Another nice thing about Corner View is that it’s very gay friendly, moreso than especially the other SLO area bars, and often threw pretty good late night GLBTQ /ally parties. In general it was also the place where you could find the most queer-identified people in the downtown area.

Corner view… oh corner view. I just recently found their bar. ya it nice. It’s pretty spectacular. I get their sweet tea. It is pretty darn tasty, especially when they put their own blends of tea into the seagrams. but besides the drink, which are strong and pretty cheap, the food is pretty good. I’m kinda a cheapy, i come here for dinner, not nice dinner so i don’t want to spend a lot. I get soup and salad. Tomato Bisque and the corner view salad is pretty damn amazing. I have had other things, burgers, salmon, fish and chips which are so good melt in you mouth, but i always come back to that soup and salad and i still come out with a bill that i’m not always comfortable paying. Love this place, love coming here to have a drink before the movies, love the bread. Service has always been superb too.

3 ½ Stars I remember Corner View from waaay back in the day when they featured their little bakery w/THE best muffins topped w/crumbly sugar. But alas… it seems that they have succumbed to catering to the college scene and turned their bakery area into a bar, complete w/a flatscreen t.v. How disappointing. I pretty much gave up on Corner View after this drastic change, but since one of my friends made reservations here for brunch, I thought it was time to give it another try. And I’m glad I did! There were some great options on the brunch menu that had me indecisive w/what to order. I finally ended up springing for the Hash Special and was pleased w/the outcome. The Hash wasn’t your typical mystery-meat-like presentation. It consisted of shredded pieces of beef w/a nice side of potatoes & perfectly cooked over easy eggs. My toast &OJ were also tasty. Our server was great w/handling our large group– she was friendly and on point w/our orders. I suppppose I can forgive Cornerview for their bakery removal mishap. I’d be open to coming back again!

I like this place a lot. :) My boyfriend and I came here for brunch on a cold day. It’s such a cute café~ I had the Sirloin, Salsa & Eggs, which comes with breakfast potatoes(which were AWESOME) and your choice of coffee cake, toast, or muffin. I have a ridiculous sweet tooth, and the coffee cake made me very happy. The steak was not bad; it seems a bit tiny, but you get a nice helping of eggs and potatoes. Mmm, the potatoes are so good. Drooling just thinking about it!

I’m only reviewing the drinks. Tuesday — Saturday from 10 pm — 12 am, there is happy hour on drinks. So this is a good place to pre-party before heading out to the other bars where they charge you more for the same drinks. Drinks range from $ 3 – 6, and they make the drinks extremely strong, so it’s well worth your money! 4 stars for the drinks only, but I heard the food is good too.

This restaurant was hyped up as having great burgers… and food in general. i think that for the SLO community, this place is more of a social staple than a great eatery. you go here for the simple fact that all of your friends are here having a great time. the service was slow and often neglectful, the food was mediocre, and the burgers — sorry folks — tasted like patties straight from your grocer’s freezer. literally, the meat tasted like(and had the consistency of) hamburger meat that has been frozen and thawed. don’t get me wrong, i had a fabulous time with my girls, but we were cramped in the overly-popular bar(the restaurant was nearly empty) and our waitress was _very_overwhelmed, with what looked like NO help.

This place was great. When I was in college it was Lynn’s and I liked it then. It’s obviously now Corner View and I think I like it even better. Ate dinner there on Saturday night with Mom and Dad who voted it better than Lynn’s also. Decorated for the holidays — it had a very festive, cozy and welcoming feel. It was cold out but nice and toasty inside. Had an early reservation(5:30) so no problems getting a table but the place had a short line by the time we left! That’s a good sign. And I suppose hints that you should make a reservation! The house white zin is a Fetzer and quite good! In hindsight I should have sucked up a «dual order» instead of insisting on trying something different and gotten one of the two dishes the folks got. They were excellent and I found myself wanting more of theirs than of my own: Roasted Duck — glazed with a dried cherry, pinot noir reduction and herbed potato cakes. Delicious! The glaze was to die for and the duck was perfectly cooked. Not too dry and not too rare and quite a generous serving(lucky for me I got several bites!) $ 21 Fresh Seared Sea Scallops — with sauteed tomatoes, scallions, capers served with a lemon butter sauce. The scallops were perfectly cooked; just barely seared to cook them through but left tender and smooth. A good sized serving of 5 – 6 large scallops. The sauce was rich and full of good flavor. $ 21 Wasn’t as thrilled with my own: Seared Yellowfin Tuna — fresh ahi seared rare served with wasabi, soy sauce and pickled ginger. Nothing extraordinary. The fish was good quality and the flavor was nice, but not exciting. Plus this was the most expensive dish we ordered at $ 24. Service was decent and friendly. The manager/owner strolled around and asked if we needed anything. It was a happy feel overall. Would come back for a nice meal out next time I’m in town!
