Used to be 4 or almost 5 stars but lately their service has gone downhill(badly). Hard to get the attention of anyone, your tea will be dry and you might order sake but never get glasses/cups. Even my hamachi kama was overcooked last time. Disappointed.

The environment was really cozy and service was great – maybe because we went during their nonpeak hours. As for the food, their selection of sashimi was wonderful, more than most sushi resturants I have seen in this price range, and really fresh.

I had the combination A. The tempuras are to die for. It was crisp but not oily. The food was quick and delicious. Would come back again!

This place must be under new ownership or management or both because both the food and the service are pretty bad. Only giving it two stars because of past visits that had been decent. That said, we won’t be going back.

This restaurant is the worst japanese food, the foods don’t have any tasting except a taste of kerchup source in the rolls. They use a lot ketchup sources to make a good tasting for rolls and sushi. this is ketcup sources taste rather than roll and shusi tasting. The fried vegitable and shrimp were not crispy at all and looks like fried with bad and old fried oil, also the taste are nothing. I can say this is not Japanese restaurant and dont know what kind of foods they cooked.

I am a regular at Sushi Mass. Good sashimi. Bar service is good. Their specials are great. Chicken teriyaki and hamachi donburi are specialty. Sashimi salad. Combo E. Dragon roll. Recommended.

We were in the mood for Japanese food, but it was rush hour and we were near Sushi Masa. It took about 5 mins to get seated, not sure why it wasn’t that full but lets continue. We order the sushi Cal roll dinner and the Combo bento box, chicken and tempura. The salad they brought out had what looked like thousand island dressing on it, ok we can live with that, the soup was good, now onto the main course… My Bento came with a 6pc Cal roll, which the server dropped off 1st, the rolls were the standard small size, so I shared one with my girlfriend while we waited for the rest of the food. OK this tasted like store bought I have been in a frig for awhile sushi, WTH… Next they bought out the food, the Cal rolls she ordered were much bigger and fresh looking, thank you, but my bento dinner… wow really, the Tempura was very greasy, the rice was shaped in a heart shape, prob the only good thing about the dinner and the chicken WTH x2 The chicken, had a thick fatty skin layer on it and it looked like it was boiled, not grilled or open flame cooked, most of he meat was fatty dark meat, I spent most of he time trying to find the meat I could eat and tossing the fatty skin and fat of the joints or dark meat onto another plate. Was this a cold weather chicken, just gross and more so for the 17.00 plus for the bento… OK Sushi Masa, time to reinvent yourself or go under, try open flame cooking your food, fire your kitchen chefs and hire ones that want to work, remind the sushi chef, if it’s not fresh toss it…

One of the best sushi experiences! Sushi bar is well stocked with fresh selections. The staff is welcoming and happy to answer any questions. They have great options for sake and beer on tap(bonus!) We’ve also tried many options prepared from the kitchen and have never been dissapointed. It’s one of our go to places when undecided and always leave happy and with a full belly.

This was one of the worst Japanese food experiences I have ever had. The preparation of the dishes were just not very good and the portions were small. The tempura was not up to happi house standards which is not saying much. Stay away from the tuna donburi which was drenched in a unsatisfactory sauce. Prices are on the high side which is why I rated this restaurant one star. Service was friendly and good but there were hardly any customers in the restaurant at that time. I would say the best part of my dinner was the miso soup. My recommendation to the ownership is to add better descriptions to the menu. Another thing the chefs might want to consider is to eat at an established Japanese restaurant or even do some research on the Internet and look at pictures so they understand how to make a proper donburi.

Was in the mood for sushi, but wanted to try a new place from my usual. Found this place here on Unilocal and decided to go. I sat at the bar where I was quickly greeted. The sushi was great. I had tuna and salmon and the texture was just perfect. I even made friends with the sushi chef(thank you, David!). The atmosphere is the best, everyone is beyond friendly and warm. The miso was great too, which is rare now with some places. I have a new ‘usual’ spot.

We entered Sushi Masa with two sweaty kids after an afternoon at The Jungle next door.(Sweaty because it’s a kids’ play place, not because it’s an actual jungle.) We sat at a traditional tatami mat table where you sit with your legs suspended over a large hole in the floor. With concern in her voice my daughter asked, «Does the hole ever end?» Clearly when you’re five and your legs don’t touch the bottom it’s an endless abyss. The kids shared miso soup and pork gyoza, both fine. The husband had a combo with beef teriyaki that was stew-like. He said it was not great. My California Roll and Mango Tango sushi rolls were serviceable as was the tempura. Nothing to write home about but what I expected. We couldn’t resist treating the kids — the kids, not us, the kids! — to the interesting-sounding tempura ice-cream. Unfortunately we had to wait 20 minutes for it. The green tea ice-cream itself was bland with no noticeable tea flavor. I wish there were other ice-cream flavors offered. The tempura part was more bready than fried-tasting and quite unique. The kids ate their ice-cream first and then ate the leftover tempura that had fallen off. Overall the food was fine but the meal took 1 ¾ hours which was unexpected since we were the first diners there at about 5:15. There were just a lot of long waits between courses.

This place is one of my go-to places for Japanese food! All of the fish is super fresh and consistent plus, the salmon is always amazing! Also, the staff is always nice and welcoming. This place never fails me– #1 Japanese Place!

This is my favorite sushi place. Fresh sashimi, friendly waiters… The wait for the food was quite long when I went to eat dinner on a Friday night, but it was well worth it ;). I’ve tried the Chef’s choice sashimi plate and i think i will get this each time. The cherry blossom roll was very delicious also. The price is a bit more than places like cha cha but… For the quality. It is worth it. Thank you for existing, Sushi Masa!

Zero stars! What a waste. We came in before this party of 4 and they sat them before us after I was tending to my son. I was still in plain view and she should have asked who came in first. How rude is that? Seriously. Restaurant owners and staff should pay more attention out of common courtesy. Especially if they don’t take names or have a sign up sheet. Will never come here again. We ended up at a more personable Japanese restaurant down the street who sat us with no wait.

Update Review after 4YEARS! Quick ‘n Easy, Fast ‘n Breezy Review! Arigatou gozaimasu :) Mother wanted to grab Japanese lunch nearby and she took me to…*drum roll* Sushi Masa. I begrudgingly agreed mainly cause she drove haha. We arrived around 1:30PM and was seated quickly. There seemed to be one, maybe two waitress on duty at the time? We looked at the Lunch Menu and Happy Hour Menu, which is applicable during lunch and 5−630PM M-Th. We ordered the: Crunchy California Roll(8pcs $ 6), Beef Teriyaki & Cali roll combo(~$ 9), and Nabekyaki Udon($ 10). The Bento Combos came with miso soup, salad, and rice. The Udon was accompanied by salad only. The Crunchy California roll– BEST entrée, surprisingly! The roll was piping hot and super crunchy. The avocado and imitation crab were definitely fresh and melted inside your mouth. The bento combo and udon were mediocre average(just as I remembered so…). Salted heavily, the beef left more to be desired, but the udon shrimp came in a mega giant size, score! The hot tea is still divine, and our waitress was hard to flag down but very friendly. She was a younger-aged Japanese female and definitely not the old tyrannical witches that served us before. Interior décor was the same– kawaii, old-time Japanese Edo vibe. We weren’t rushed and the quality was acceptable. Overall experience this time was pleasant but don’t expect Mizu or Kenji-level sushi experience!

This was a teenage favorite for the following reasons: 1) Fried Green Tea Ice Cream(where I first learned about fried ice cream) 2) Obento lunch sets 3) Japanese Themed Décor Admittedly, I haven’t been back for several years, since I disappeared for college, so I didn’t hesitate to take the chance to stop by when I saw the opportunity mostly for the nostalgia. I came here on a weekday for lunch and sushi masa and the atmosphere was casual without being too packed. There appears to be some additional special seating arrangements(kneeling or faux-kneeling) in the back, but I’ve always just sat in the regular tables. To the food: 1) Green tea. Complimentary. I really prefer japanese green tea to chinese red tea. 2) I ordered the obento set that contained: chicken, sashimi(3 raw tuna slices), and tempura, and salad. I was surprised that the salad dressing didn’t taste it was sesame based. Went for the sashimi since I didn’t feel like going for california rolls and felt like cutting carbs. I liked how the slices of sashimi had sliced-in ridges on the meat. It was pretty cool to see the meat slightly fan out when I picked up the meet with my chopsticks. For tempura, I mostly care about the shrimp and onion, and dutifully satisfied. Chicken Teriyaki. Not dry at all. 3) Fried Green Tea Ice Cream: They brought the ice cream sliced already. The temperature of the breading/cake(pound cake) around the ice cream wasn’t terribly hot as I expected. I’m presuming the ice cream just cooled down the breading very quickly. I think the anticipation of eating this dish was more exciting than actually eating this dish. Maybe I just prefer ice cream over a baked item(pizooki, breaded pudding with icecream). I think with fried items(think anything fried you would buy at a carnival), the novelty factor comes from breaking apart the skin and eating the filling instead of having the fried good sliced already. Summary: I think the food is a win if you’re going for a bento lunch for ~$ 13. Location: This is located in in a shopping center. It wasn’t terribly active crowded when I came in on a weekday, so parking shouldn’t be a worry.

To sum it up, wait time is long, food is less than half decent. We waited for about half an hour for our food, and its not very busy, the store is about 60% occupied. Ordered stir fried udon which came with a ton of soup at the bottom, which isn’t what I consider stir fry. Its almost like boiled udon soup with soy source added. Eel roll is very basic, a little eel wrapped in seaweed and rice. Safeway deli sushi quality. I give 2 stars for the good service only.

Nothing special food wise and our bill for 2 people without anything to drink was $ 60 to share rolls. The service was just average. I would not recommend or return to here in the near future.

Very clean restaurant with generous servings/plates. Had the combination box C(chicken tempura, CA roll, and lobster & veggie tempura)-$ 20. Also tried the salmon skin roll($ 7) and lobster tempura roll($ 15). The tempura was cooked perfect. The salmon skin roll was a bit dry for me, and made as a nori roll instead of a temaki roll… so that’s also part of why it was a touch dry. The lobster tempura(and roll) were tasty. The wait staff was quick and attentive, so overall a very good experience and I would absolutely repeat it.

Would have never noticed this place if my friend didn’t point it out. I have been going to the gym across the street for years but only recently discovered this place. Thank god I did because this place is pretty solid. Had sashimi, shrimp tempura, chicken teriyaki and pickle appetizer. Typical run of the mill order, right? But there’s still so many ways to mess up the basics. I recommend this place though. One, the food is good. Second, the people here are nice(which counts for a lot). And third, the same window covers that made this place hard to notice are the same covers that make this place a nice escape once you’re inside.
