The steak I ordered is perfect, Filet Mignon on ROK. Service is good, I didn’t have to wait long to get my order. One draw back is the dessert, not much choice.

First time here last night with my son and husband FANTASTIC! The food, the service and the manager Tri were all on point. Our server Katie explained the menu and rock, we started with appetizers artichoke hearts for us and chicken tenders for our son. The artichoke hearts were light and delicious and the chicken tenders were fully consumed in minutes. We all ordered something different: My husband ordered the jambalaya, it was the perfect spice served with rice in the middle and a great mix of flavors. My son ordered the NY on the lava rock, what a great experience for him to be able to cut and cook his steak to his liking. He savored every bite! I ordered the teriyaki lava bowl, it had fresh broccoli and carrots with a wonderful sauce. The beef was tender and mixed with the sticky rice was delicious. Hands off to the manager Tri, he worked every aspect of the restaurant greeting, seating, serving and cleaning. He went above and beyond when we ordered a glass of wine and requested to change it to a bottle. No questions asked he brought out a bottle. Very comfortable and inviting atmosphere, we will definitely be back… thank you for a great family night!!!

Five minute wait in lobby, was not greeted at by the Host, seated for five minutes before friendly overwhelmed waitress showed took our orders, only two waitress working while bunch male staff hanging out. Burgers were mediocre at best, burger king’s whopper is much tastier. Pity since this is walking distance from my apartment.

We tried Rok for the first time a few nights ago and were surprised by how upscale it is, considering the usually-casual nature of a «steakhouse & grill». So it was somewhat more expensive than we had expected, but the quality of the food certainly matched the prices. My husband ordered a steak served on the 700-degree volcanic rocks that are sort of the modus operandi of the restaurant, and he said that it was a new, worthwhile experience! He enjoyed the novelty of sort-of cooking the meat on the rock as he ate it. I ordered the teriyaki beef bowl, which was delicious and served fresh. Speaking of how our food was served, the service was certainly above par. We went on a very busy night, and all the same, the greeters and servers worked hard to make sure we could be seated and served quickly and with friendly manners. The one thing that was somewhat disappointing about the evening was the acoustics. The food is pretty fancy and cool, and the looks of the place are clearly aiming for upscale modernity to match, but there was a loud roar of everyone struggling to be heard over one another as all of our voices bounced off of the industrial concrete floors and metal ceiling with exposed vents. I usually would be more tolerant of volume, but with the prices Rok is asking for and the quality of the food they offer, I expect the sound-dampening acoustics of a fancy restaurant to match.

This is a below average place with overpriced and super salty food! We came in to celebrate my friend’s birthday! I asked the server about any food recommendation. They always recommend for their ROKBBQ! That dish is around 30 bucks… So we ordered the swordfish on rok with 2 side dishes(since we are not heavy eater, we tried to order some lighter sides, but no asparagus at that moment and we have to switch to fruit). Then we ordered other Asian fusion dishes like chicken teriyaki and beef hot pot, and another fired chicken burger. When the food came up, we were disappointed! For beef hot pot and chicken teriyaki, it is SUPERSALTY! Even with rice, they are salty. U cannot eat a single bite w/o any rice or water! Fried chicken burger is too so so, quality is like fast food restaurant burger! And that rok fish is also disappointing! It came up with a slice of fish uncooked on rok! We need to wait till it cooked! Once it cooked, that fish is also SALTY! Side dishes are so so! Just putting vege into boiling hot water, and fresh fruit tastes like can food… Definitely won’t come back again!

I don’t like giving bad reviews, but to say the least, I was extremely dissatisfied with my service and food — both which are key. Our server was non existent! Our table of 10 spent over 3 hours for our drinks, food, and to pay. Totally unacceptable! I complained a few times because my food didn’t come with everyone else, it didn’t ever arrive until I had to ask for it. Why does raw meat take almost 1.5 hrs to come to our table??? Once I received my food, I didn’t get a steak knife or my sauce. I had to again ask for one(our server never really checked on us) and the knife I got was broken WTF!, so the second knife came and at that point I was so disappointed I didn’t even finish my food. I wasn’t sure why this was such an issue for our server, it was a relatively light night, but I realized that our server was helping two separate tables with NFL players — why was she serving them and not us? Prob because they were famous! They were in and out before we even were asked again for water and after we had asked where our food was 3 times! All in all, this was a horrible experience, overpriced meal meh tasting meal, and I would never recommend this place to anyone. Maybe things would have been different if our waitress paid attention to us, like all the other waiters there, or if our busser was courteous to us, or if the food was was on par with the price.

The service was outstanding Apps: Calamari — OK come with legs Poke salad — winner of the bunch Cheese fondue: mushroom parm — this was literally cream of mushroom soup — hard pass BBQ chicken salad — best in show Caesar salad — standard fare Clam chowder — pretty liquidy, skip Entrée: Top sirloin — dbp and ong noi loved it — steamed veg: needed more grill! — green beans: enjoyed Pacific ahi — big piece — sushi grade Dessert: Crème brûlée — dbp not a fan — dip with banana = delicious banana pudding Dark chocolate snickers — only OK, can’t taste the peanut butter or caramel — too much oil mashed it liquidy — rice krispies tasted like from a package — banana dippers were yum

Interesting concept. The off-putting things were all the smoke in my face(really smokey inside this restaurant, period), and really hot stone making me feel roasty. I could see this working in a mountain lodge where it’s cold! It also seemed like I had to work for my food. Being able to custom-sear my meat was nice, though — and the filet I got was suuuuper tender. The dipping sauce was OK, perhaps a little too salty even for me(and I love salty). The fondue was greatly disappointing as a chocolate lover, not to mention the mini pretzels that came with were entirely stale. Overall for the $price$ I would expect a lot more than a small piece of meat, some underwhelming veggies and disappointing dessert. Service, however, was excellent.

This is a great spot. The experience offered here is nowhere to be found in the area. Very unique, great beer selection. The cocktails are constantly changing as the food menu does. Very seasonal spot. Great for big corporate parties and reservations.

What an experience! Cooking your own steak on a volcanic stone is actually pretty exciting. I tried the top sirloin and the hanger steak. Both delicious. Also tried the baked potato and asparagus. Both very good. Minus one star because the ambiance could use some help. Feels a bit strip mally. Restroom Review: 3⁄5 stars — One of the urinals was out of service and the floor could use a cleaning. Lots of pee drips.

It was a solid meal. The buffalo medallions are on the smaller side so if you’re feeling hungry, go for a steak. The sweet potato fries are ONPOINT but i don’t think i’ve ever met a fry i didn’t like. The service was good and the servers made sure to check on us regularly. i had a great moscow mule there in copper cups and everything. AWESOME. Anticipate smelling like your sizzling plate the rest of the day if you go here during lunch.

We had a good experience here, and the food was good. It was our first time here and we went on Mother’s Day. The ambiance here is pretty casual, so we felt a bit overdressed but at least we looked good lol. Anyways, our server, sadly I forgot her name, she was very nice and informative knowing it was our first time here. She always kept up with our drinks, which is cool. We ordered 6oz Filet Mignon on the Rok. It was pretty cool you can cook it yourself to your liking. Sizzling plates are always fun IMO. Baked potato is good. We also ordered the poke salad and that was good too, although for us we prefer fried wonton chips vs any other chip, but it was still good nonetheless. I ordered a Mt Kilimanjaro and it was REALLY good. I enjoyed it and I would def recommend that drink. Will we come back again? Yes, but most likely for another occasion rather than just to dine because prices are a bit heavy on the pockets. Oh and they had a complimentary ice cream scoop for Mother’s Day. I was expecting just a ice cream scoop but they jazzed it up with some wafers, pineapple, strawberry, and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.

The food here was just alright — nothing spectacular. If you look through the pictures of the food on the hot rocks, it all seems to look a pale gray rather than an appetizing brown. It seems gimmicky and I purposely asked for the grill treatment for my steak instead. My steak was cooked to the right doneness and tasted fine, but the vegetable sides seemed like afterthoughts… some of the woody ends of the asparagus were not cut off. Fried artichokes and fries provencal were solid. Service was friendly and prompt. We did have a little snafu with the tip, but it was sorted out in a way that was acceptable. All in all, a serviceable but unexceptional experience. I don’t think I’ll be clamoring to come here again.

Came here for lunch with some coworkers on a Tuesday at 11:45 and barely had a wait for a party of 9! That should have been my first clue though… I ordered the steak fajitas and they smelled great when they came out. But after that, it went downhill. The steak lacked flavor, the rice and beans it came with was a pile of rice with like 11 beans on it. The chimichurri sauce it came with didn’t really taste like anything, definitely did not resemble chimichurri either. It was more like a little bowl of oil with a few leaves of parsley in it. It was a cool idea to eat off of a volcanic rock, but the food was just bland :( EDIT: When leaving work, we all realized that we smelled like Rok. No bueno. Also, 3 others in our group also said their food lacked flavor.

Uno de los mejores Lugares que he visitado. Lo recomiendo 100%, es un poco costoso pero el precio lo vale. Pedí el Filete Mignon y el New York Steak. Muy Ricos y el Servicio Muy Amable.

Yes, go eat here ! We took dad for Father’s Day and he was so satisfied and happy with the Father’s Day Special, which was a MASSIVE cut of steak! Each of us ordered a different plate off the menu and we loved every dish. The service was good. The atmosphere was fine. Right when you walk in you’re thinking wow this is a nice place. The overall experience was fun, and interactive. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone. It’s something new, yummy and a great experience.

Came here with some friends for a grad-dinner a couple of weeks ago. Be sure to make reservations, even on a weekday/weeknight b/c this place gets packed. Typical crowd there consists of the SV Techies, SV business peeps, and hotel guests since the restaurant is adjacent to it. Okay, so the concept of cooking/eating food on/from a volcanic rock is cool, but the price of the food(especially if you’re ordering from the«rok» portion of the menu), and the taste of the food is just okay, thus I don’t think dining there is really worth the price. Anyway, if you order from the«rok,» they cook the meat onto the volcanic rock at 700 degrees just until it forms a «crust», and servce it to you while it’s still raw in the middle… then they tell you how long you can cook the meat on the wrong for according to your preference… Customer service was good though, our waitress very helpful in going over the menu with us, as well as giving recommendations on what to order. Our orders: For appetizers, we ordered the ahi poke with chips or whatever you call it… pretty good… –Wild boar(on «rok»):market price… i had a taste of it, and it was okay… –6 oz filet mignon with mushroom sauce and a side of rice pilaf and steamed veggies-the meat was tender and all, but to get some decent taste, I kept adding salt and pepper to my meat which isn’t really a good thing… the veggies were a bit too soft for me, but the rice pilaf was decent… for the price we were paying for, I had to finish my food –my other friend ordered the blackened atlantic salmon and she said it just tasted okay… They sell«rok kits» if you’re ever interested in cooking with it at home haha… Oh yeah, if you check in on Unilocal!you get 50% on an appetizer of your choice… but that’s if you order two entrees Super loud in there… everybody is just talking over each other… I came out of the restaurant completely covered in that grilled food/“rok” smell haha Okay experience overall, but I probably wouldn’t go back.

I decided on the fly that the honey and I should have a date night. We’ve been considering Rok for awhile now, but while the concept is intriguing, I just wasn’t sure I wanted to spend the money. Some positives: the food… it makes you want to spend the money. We split the buffalo dish with two sides. Getting to cook it myself meant I could make it as well done as I wanted without the«burned to a crisp» some of the chefs like to do when I ask for well done. I also really enjoy the sizing of splitting a dish. I can never eat a whole steak dish and I left full, with some room for dessert should anything have caught my fancy. Now for the drawbacks. The ambiance? It makes you not want to spend the money. It is literally like sitting in a Sizzler. They may even share booths with the Sweet Tomatoes down the way. For 30 for half of a dish… I expect for the room to not be filled with so much smoke they have to prop open the fire door so the waiters can see. I expect a modern take on fashionable seating or even some random throw pillows to liven up this boring space. Our sever was great, and we really enjoyed our meal — so much so I have the Sunnyvale location on our«to-try» list now. But while I really enjoyed it… I don’t know if this location would bring me back.

Well, I have to be honest: I am not a fan of the concept of cooking your own food(or red meat) — the whole point of going is to NOT cook. However, I’m pretty happy with the rest of their small dishes that I am okay with going back again and again because this has to be my BF’s favorite spot. My favorite dish to have is the Poke appetizer, Fried Artichoke Hearts, Calamari and the California Rok flatbread. The clam chowder is also a favorite of ours. They also have amazing wine perfectly price pointed(bottle wise). This is probably not the best review if interested in the cooking concept but I do really like the other options so it makes it easier for us to both enjoy our dining experience.

Had a great dinner at Rok Steakhouse. Rok is right next to the Hyatt Place my wife stays at when working in San Jose, so it was very convenient. We were looking for a place to go watch Thursday night football and get some dinner and this place hit the spot! Rok is a bar & grill with a unique restaurant concept. The inside is dimly lit with dark woods all around. They look like they are trying to appeal to the tech business traveler. The kind that would stay at the hotel next door and work in the Silicon Valley. The ‘Rok’ is a lava Rock that they will bring certain grill items out on. You have the option to order your grill protein«On the Rock» or just have them cook it, plate it and deliver it to your table conventionally. Our waiter was telling us that if you order it «on the Rok», they will partially cook it back in the kitchen then bring it to you on the Rok. The food continues to cook on the Rok as it sits. But fellow Unilocalers warn that your food winds up overcooked as it sits there for a while. So…we got a couple of craft beers and an appetizer. We decided to try the Hawaiian Poke Salad. Poke salad is something we fell in love with in Hawaii. It is a cold sashimi dish that features fresh Ahi Tuna, and is made with macadamia nuts, sliced onions, sesame ginger, soy sauce and served with sesame flatbread. The Poke salad also comes with wasabi, srirachi and a smoky, sweet sauce. It was SO good. The fish was very fresh too! For my entrée, I ordered the Jambalaya. You have the option of spicy or not. I ordered it spicy, of course! They were not kidding– it was very spicy, and absolutely delicious. It had Portuguese linguiça sausage, creole shrimp, blackened chicken, sautéed vegetables, and rice. We enjoyed all of our food and beers very much. There was also a Unilocal coupon that gave us ½ off our appetizer. Will definitely go back when we return for the next work trip!
