I was and still am so upset that Jimmy’s closed due to a kitchen fire. I’m so glad no one was hurt. It’s such a shame that the fire could claim such a favorite establishment. Two years ago my boyfriend and I were cruising late at night and I remember seeing the big red«Jimmy’s» sign illuminated out front. As a relative newcomer to this area of San Jose, I asked him if he’d ever went there to eat, and he said he’d been there several times during many late nights with his friends growing up. My boyfriend took me there the next day, and alas, my love affair with this establishment began. I remember this restaurant having the best cooked steaks and french toast I’ve had at any diner. I could always count on my steaks coming out to medium-rare perfection here at Jimmy’s. Their hash browns were always golden brown and crispy. I did quite enjoy the diner atmosphere. The outrageous orange diner booths were a novelty in it of themselves. I loved the fact that it was open 24 hours and it was my go-to place to eat whenever I would get those late night cravings! Imagine getting served perfectly seared steak and eggs at 3 in the morning! I’ve been trying to find another restaurant like Jimmy’s, and nothing quite fills the hole in my heart left by this restaurant. I had always been meaning to review Jimmy’s when it was still open. And this is my last ditch effort to get my good say in. We will miss you, Jimmy’s!

Nice place to eat after a later night church function. I ordered the ham and egg breakfast with extra crispy hashbrowns. The service and meal were good. I didn’t finish my. ham, because it was a big portion for me. My toast was a little on the well done side, but I was tired and hungry, so I didn’t back. I would take this place over Denny’s…that’s for sure.

Jimmy’s has been a local establishment in south San Jose for decades and has been owned and operated by Jimmy for as far back as I can remember. I was brought there many times growing up and I will continue to bring my friends and family for as long as I live in the area. That said, I’ve only ever had breakfast at Jimmy’s even though they offer lunch and dinner options. Why is this? Probably because Jimmy’s does breakfast the right way. They do breakfast the way you hope it will be every time you go to Denny’s, Flames, or Cocos but are always, ultimately, disappointed. Their bacon is thick sliced and crispy, their hash browns are real potatoes(not the frozen stuff like at Denny’s), their corned beef and hash isn’t out of a can, and they use real butter on their toast. Yes, this place is that good.

Came here super early with my daughter one morning for breakfast before school. I had wanted to come here for the kitsch factor alone. Love the retro feel even if it is really dated. The funky orange added to its appeal(at least for me). You don’t see many of these types of diners anymore. Aside from staff it was just us, but our waitress wasn’t very attentive. When a regular came in she all but sat in his lap. Food was pretty good, nothing special. My seven year old and I split a special. The thing that stands out most are the hash browns – really tasty, homemade style. Servings are average sized. Price wise I was a little surprised our bill was over $ 20 for a split breakfast special(one entrée shared between us) with two juices and a side of toast(complete with awful electric yellow diner margarine).

Late night and hungry? Don’t want fast food? Try out Jimmy’s. This place has saved me from my late night hunger many times. And it was awesome every single time with minimal regrets. The restaurant has a retro feel to it and the staff have been quite friendly every time I’ve been in. I’m really impressed at how nice they are considering how late they work. Props. But onto the food. They’ve got pretty good BREAKFASTCOMFORTFOOD. YUM. Seriously. I’ve only ordered breakfast food here because I see no reason not to. I think it’s the best bang for your buck and they do breakfast right. I’ve had their hamburger steak, sausage steak, chicken fried steak, the breakfast combo and they have all been more than satisfying. The price is reasonable and you get toast and hashbrowns. Oh and SMUCKERSJAMS to spread that childhood taste all over the toast. The next time you’re out late and want something besides fast food, think breakfast comfort food aka Jimmy’s. Your stomach will thank you.

This place is great! The service is always fast and the food is so good and has that home-cooked taste. Nice 70’s décor. Babe always gets the country fried steak and loves it. I had the french toast today and it was sweet and buttery, and that came with eggs and bacon. We like to come here for late nights or Sunday breakfast. Will keep coming back, early morning or late night!

Hey yo… I enjoyed Jimmy’s. The service is OK and the food is OK too… but it’s open 24 hours and the décor has that kind of retro vibe which gives into a kind of «cool» factor. With an American diner such as this you can’t expect it to crush it… especially when you consider the competition in the Bay Area. However, that being said, this is a place for late night breakfast cravings and without the whole Denny’s vibe. If anything, it’d be more of a Quentin Tarantino Pulp Fiction kind of thing. The menu itself is a little hit and miss, but I had a pork chop which wasn’t half bad considering the price. When you come to this place just appreciate it for what it is in it’s price category and«time» category and you’ll be fine.

Where do I even start? I went here with a close friend of mine at 11 at night. I ended up ordering breakfast specials and got the NY steak and eggs and my friend ordered the country fried steak, and two root beer floats. First off, I got my NY steak and it sucked SO bad. I asked for ‘medium rare’ but all they could give me was OVER well done and burnt. not only that but it was so hard to cut and it took me so long to chew on a piece, possibly the worst steak I’ve had my entire life. Not only the steak was hard to eat but my friend let me try her plate and the country fried steak was so freaking bland! The service was so bad, we didn’t get our root beer float until after we were almost done with our food; and the girl only brought one float when we asked for two, she also forgot to bring the salad that my friend ordered from the beginning. The place wasn’t even crowded to begin with. So the girl that helped us was running around pretended to be busy or something because not once did she check up on us if we needed anything. Once we were done, the girl just passed by our table and gave us our checks and didn’t bother saying ANYTHING which was pretty damn rude of her. I would pick any other place than this.

I truly enjoy eating at Jimmy’s Restaurant! I usually come here at 1 or 2 am because I definitely prefer this place over Denny’s ! At first I always drove by this place and didn’t really think too much of it. Finally, I decided to take a shot on this place! Boy oh Boy! Thank goodness I did. Service was great along with the food! I usually only order the same thing all the time. It is the Jimmy’s Combo Breakfast(2 eggs, ham, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, hash browns, and toast). I could never finish this meal, it is quite a lot! What I like to do is share with a friend! I ask them to split it in half for me. If you look at my photo, you can see that they have cut it in half for my friend and I. I have tried other things here like chili cheese fries, ravioli, spaghetti, chicken tenders, jalapeño poppers, onion rings, and mozzarella sticks, but my stomach is fixed on the Jimmy’s Combo Breakfast. Plus the sausage is way bigger than Denny’s Restaurant’s sausage. I like going late at night because it is less people compared to the daytime. If you go here quite often like I do, you don’t need a menu and they know what you already want. The waitress Gigi provides great service, and she is ALWAYS here when I come out to eat late at night. She doesn’t even write down orders, she memorizes it. The food also comes out pretty quickly. I would have to say, this place holds so many memories and glad they still serve us after the things we have done. One day of heavy drinking and my friend is drunk, but I underestimated the level of drunkenness she was. She sits down orders her food, then goes straight to the restroom. Food comes out and no word from her, knock on the door and she was just hovering over the toilet throwing up. I let her be and went back to the table to eat my breakfast. She still never came out, so I knocked on the door continuously, but no word. That would be the least of our problems because 10 cops decides to come here for breakfast! I start to get nervous because I have a friend that locked herself in the restroom and the only way to open the door is with a bobby pin! A few cops watched as we try our best to unlock the restroom door, it works. OMG. the horror! It was like the exorcist with vomit EVERYWHERE. My friend passed out on the ground covered in vomit as well as the walls and ground. Dragged her body to the car and left ASAP! Some cops were outside just waiting for us to mess up so they could pull us over or give us a ticket. So embarrassing and I didn’t show up for awhile! I had to apologize in the behalf of my friend. Two years later that same friend comes back and it was almost like a repeat. So we come inside and my friend knocks out on the booth drunk. She got up 5 times trying to order pancakes, then our food comes out. She acted like the age of 2 or 3. She used her hands and just went at it the pancakes and It wasn’t cute! There was two other tables around us and they couldn’t enjoy their food after what happened next. My friend starts gagging and making all sorts of unattractive noises! Then attempts to throw up on the ground inside the restaurant! Our group starts to panic and I run straight to get a bag for her. The incredibly loud noises she made had forced customers to leave. It’s like you’re trying to eat and all of the sudden you hear LOUD vomit and choking sounds. Then someone takes her out for fresh air, she truly was a monster that night. Crawling on the cement on her knees and hands while throwing up and making zombie noises. We paid and dragged her into the car, she tries to jump out of my car, but luckily someone got a hold of her body. She would’ve face planted so hard. I come back a week later and Gigi explained to me that we missed the cops by a few minutes. This very friend doesn’t even remember going here let alone all the crazy things she has done. Good place and theirs plenty more memories to come. You must try this place out!

This jaunt is insanely old school’ish. The customer service is up and down. However the food is spot on. I certainly would not be a regular if you are weak to the fried or gravy laden yummy dishes. Breakfast portions are huge. I see some great looking healthy options. I have a few nit picky observances of cleanliness here and there but overall best breakfast had in a restaurant in some time!

Nom! Late night eating! I like ordering the steak and hash potatoes here over going to Denny’s. Out of all the late night place, I prefer going here. The hash browns are so crispy but still fluffy which I love and portions are huge as well.

I am very disappointed with the food here at Jimmy’s. I’ve been before, and it was ok/good, but it’s sad what I realized today. I came here with my boyfriend and he asked for a baked potato, the waitress said«we don’t have any» which is weird bc we had order French fries as an appetizer… AKA the fries were from a bag. I order the fish and chips and sadly they looked like they were also from a bag. Nothing was actually made there, just heated up. If I had known I was going to eating food frozen food just heated up then I would have just gone to my local grocery store.

Came here for a late night supper with a friend since there were no other restaurants in the vicinity that was open past 1030pm. Our server was friendly and the food portion was rather huge. We had the beef barley soup, scrambled egg and peach pie but we couldn’t finish our food. Average diner very much similar to your Denny’s.

Jimmy’s or Denny’s? …jimmy of course! Yes, he’ll treat you better. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! It’s my new favorite ‘try to get sober’ spot! I would definitely pick this place over Denny’s any drunken day of the week. The options are a lot more satisfying and everything just tastes BETTER. Plus you’re probably intoxicated so you wouldn’t know the difference anyways. Skip the crack headed jack in the box and come here instead. for an extra 5 bucks, you get your safety.

Let’s say this Carrow’s(Denny’s(Jimmy’s(Evergreen Inn & Pub(Bill’s Café I mean when it comes to diner/breakfast food there’s not a lot you can expect when all things are grilled or coated in gravy/butter/jam. I came here with my gym bud after 12AM and ordered Jimmy’s Breakfast Combo. It consists of two eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns, ham and two slices of bread. The hash browns are actually really good, not really much of a hash but similar to mashed potatoes with a crisp exterior– soo good and fluffy. The bacon was extremely crispy and almost pork rind-ish. The sausage and ham were decent but greasy. Eggs and bread are just that, hard to get those things wrong. The int décor was a bit overwhelming with it’s burnt orange color, but seems untouched by time. I felt like I was sitting on the set of Pulp Fiction. Service was whatever as we two of the five people inside the place at the time. A bit pricier for breakfast though they do have breakfast specials.(Think Bill’s Café) Not a place to grab a Royale with cheese but typical breakfast plates? They sure do!

I’ve been here pre Unilocal. Stopped by before visiting The Stairs nearby. Jimmy’s is a family run establishment. We were served by one of them. It sits on a stretch of road on Capitol Expressway. Where all apartments are and Jimmy’s sits right there. Such a cool spot. Jimmy’s remained clean, fast cheap! And OPEN24 hrs! Good food. Plus all that. I had their French Toast. They carry wines too. I am still a fan!

We stopped in for breakfast to charge up for our day’s activities at the Stairs to Communication Hill. We were greeted and seated promptly by the family staff; she was super. I really liked the family style courtesy and appreciative smiles. The attempt to please us was outstanding. The restaurant interior is nothing special, although it has ample tables by the large windows. Parking was also a breeze with the adjacent parking lot. The menu is perfect for a place that is open 24 hours a day. Jimmy’s Special Scramble caught my attention, which is a breakfast dish with the same ingredients as Joe’s special that one would come across at other diners. I am assuming the owner named this dish out of respect to Jimmy. From all the Joe’s specials I’ve tasted to date, I must say Jimmy’s is my favorite. It’s made with four eggs, ground beef, onions and spinach. It was a perfect balance of ingredients, and the portion was gigantic. Overall, I really enjoyed dining here with the pleasant service. It’s a bit far to make this my local favorite, but if I’m ever in the area, I will definitely dine here again. Did I mention they are open 24 hours, so skip the corporate Denny’s and give this family owned diner a try.
