Hair of the Year

I had been getting my haircuts at this place for more than 5 years now. Thought I owe them a review. I go to Tracy and love the work she does. I went to other more fancy salons before and got the same for more than twice the price. Tracy had lots of experience and knows how hair behaves. My hair is unevenly curly so hard to deal with. The place is very simple and I wish it was a little cleaner (there is hair on counters in in the corners). Other than that this is a great place. My neighbor goes to Wendy. She is great too.

Love this place… My hair is very dark, but I love highlights. At every hair salon I will go, either they complaint that it was too much work or they cant make my hair as blond as I wanted, until I met Tracy at this salon. She is good at what she does. I been coming back to this location every time I need a touch up and they have never failed me.

I have been going here for years and am very satisfied! My twin sister, her neighbor, and my daughter’s boyfriend come here too. Tracy is my regular hairdresser and I love her! When my mother was alive, she also came here. Tracy and the other ladies went out of their way to make my mother’s last year of life comfortable. They were always very gentle with her and understood about Mom’s dementia behavior. This is the only place I will go to get my hair done!

I’ve been coming here on and off for the last year or two. I haven’t made it a habit of coming here but it’s close to my house and it’s never crowded so I’d come here when I was in desperate need of a haircut and didn’t have time to go somewhere else. I’ve always hated that they don’t take credit cards because I never carry cash. I’ve never been very happy with my haircuts here. I’ve always thought they were overpriced ($ 12 before tip) and the quality was below average. I remember one time I asked for a #2 on the side and scissors on top (which is what I always ask for). They used clippers on my entire head and essentially shaved my head with about a half inch of hair on top. When I told them that they shaved my head and didn’t use scissors on top like I asked, they told me they did. Then they said their haircut looks better than what I wanted. That’s one of two times (before today) that I swore I would never return, but I obviously did both times.
Today was the last straw. I went in and asked for my usual haircut. Just to be clear, I didn’t say «Give me the usual»…I told them what I wanted. I don’t know if the woman cutting my hair was in a bad mood, in a hurry to get my haircut over with, or what was going on, but it was not a pleasant experience. When she raked the comb through my hair, she scraped the comb across my scalp so hard that it made my entire scalp hurt. This went on the entire haircut. There was also one point in the haircut when she was violently swinging the comb and she jabbed it into my face, about two inches above my eye. That didn’t feel very good. Then when she used the clippers to tidy up the back of my neck, she pressed just as hard. I literally had to pull away from her because it hurt so bad. When she showed me the back of my head using a hand held mirror, I saw my neck was redder than a sunburn. The discomfort did not go away for 30 minutes.
I’ve had my hair cut here before and this has never been an issue. I don’t know what was going on today, but I mean it this time when I say I’ll never be back. It’s bad enough that this place overcharges for sub-​par haircuts, but this is by far the worst haircut experience I’ve ever had. I’ll never come back here again. If I find myself in such dire straights that I can’t go to a good haircut place, I’ll either cut my own hair or I’ll pour a gallon of Nair on my head before I go back here.

I’ve been going to this place for many years and I always leave satisfied. They’ll cut your hair exactly how you describe you want it. I’ll usually ask for MeMe but Wendy is also good! They have a very well trained staff and I would recommend this salon to everyone.

Wendy has cut my hair for over 15 years. I won’t let anyone else touch it. I’m a guy, so my cut is not the most complex, but she gets it right every time. I’ll be seeing Wendy until she retires.

The only thing of the year I got from here is for one of the worst hair cuts ever. Wendy quoted me a reasonable price, so being the cheapo that I am I went for it. I requested a color, cut in layers but keeping the length.
During my cut, I felt nervous because she lacked the care in taking time to see if what she was doing fit my face. She just carelessly snipped away without using any thought. And I noticed she was taking off more than what I requested, but I wanted to have faith. But sadly, in the end, I was left with an ugly, uneven, bulbular, crooked haircut, that lacked style.
I thought, I could go home and flat iron out, but I guess you can’t flat iron crooked. After five minute, the ends would just splay out in different directions. I was pissed and ended up getting it fixed by someone who knew what they are doing and felt really compelled to send Wendy the bill.

My entire extended family and I have been getting our hair cut at Hair of the Year for decades. The owner Tracy and her staff have always been extremely wonderful to all of their customers. They offer a full line of salon services, even though I’ve only ever gotten my hair cut and shampooed. Other members of my family have had coloring, nails, pedicure, and even electrolysis hair removal. They are very affordable and much more reliable than any chain. They will make you look handsome /​beautiful every time!

My entire family has been regulars for the past decade and a half. We’ve recommended many friends here and I have never had anyone come back unhappy. The women here are extremely knowledgeable about hair and can give you any type of cut as long as you can explain what you want or can recommend many styles depending on what you’re looking for.
They really care about their clients and making every person happy. The cuts are worth much more than they cost and I could never imagine going anywhere else.
Just be sure you’re prepared with cash or check.

I was referred to Hair of the Year by a co-​worker. She is a regular there, but recently got a new look, which I thought looked great on her. I usually go to a much pricier salon for my highlights and cut, but since I was on a budget this month and my hair desperately needed attention, I decided to give this place a try, hoping that even if it wasn’t A++, that they would just manage not to destroy my hair. I was given an appointment right away, which was great.
I made an appointment with Mi Mi and went in on a Saturday. The shop looks like a typical strip mall, Asian haircut kind of a place. Nothing fancy here, just the bare basics, so don’t look for a spa atmosphere or any atmosphere for that matter. That said, Mi Mi and the staff were extremely friendly. After a short consultation on what I wanted (color touch-​up and haircut), she went to work. I must say, I was a bit nervous at first. Mi Mi is soft spoken and I wasn’t sure she knew what I meant as far as the color is concerned. But after the color was done, I was very pleasantly surprised. She had matched it perfectly and it blended right in! The other lady who washed my hair, gave me such a great scalp massage that I almost fell asleep, it was so nice and relaxing.
Once Mi Mi cut my hair, I knew that she knew what she was doing. She did exactly what I asked her to do with my layers and didn’t cut it too short or too long. She also asked me if it was what I wanted. From her interaction with me and other customers, I could tell she really cared. It was also very reasonable, $ 55 for color and cut, can’t beat that! They do however, only take cash or checks, no credit cards. I would give Mi Mi 4 stars, but left it at an overall 3 stars because of the cash policy and the bare basics of the salon. I may still go back to my fancy salon when I want a more posh experience or if I want a major change in color or cut, but for basic color and cut or in between touch-​ups, I don’t need to pay $$$ to still look good, thanks to Miss Mi Mi.
