Absolutely wonderful, always consistent. Where can you get lunch for under $ 7.00 with salad and soup included. Thumbs up

They have the best Mongolian Beef and Orange chicken. It’s better than Taiwan Restaurant or any other Chinese restaurant in Willow Glen.

Just ate here for lunch. Prawns in lobster sauce and sweet and sour pork. Both great with white and fried rice. Hot and sour soup and Chinese chicken salad both fresh and yummy! Great customer service.

Solid, reasonably priced Chinese food. No frills décor, but the food is quite good. Chef Tso beef was great.

The soup is terrible, I went in and we got the soup at the very end, omg it was awful. The prices are very expensive and the chicken is breaded like crazy. Basically no meat just a lot of breading and msg whatever they add. And hardly any seasoning sauce on anything at all. The noodles are very dry and the rice is crispy. Overall terrible experience… I would not recommend to eat here

My favorite place to go for lunch specials — no frills, just good food for under $ 10.

It was my first visit, and we ordered and shared Crispy Scallops with Salt and Pepper, the signature Tangerine Beef, Eggplant in Hot Garlic Sauce, Prawns with Honeyed Walnuts, 3 orders of Wor Wonton soup, Chicken Chow Fun, and several dishes that escaped me. Deep fried battered banana chunks came for dessert, unordered. It was so wonderful we considered ordering again, and it was an excellent value when the bill came(at first we thought we had been undercharged). It’s a short walk from the crazy-busy nexus of Friday night entertainment on Lincoln Avenue, and since we are a large party we get reservations, but there were tables available the whole time were were there.

We were very disappointed when we got home with our take-out order. We spent over thirty dollars but weren’t given any rice, and hadn’t been asked or told it wasn’t included – who doesn’t include rice when several entrees are purchased? We also ordered wonton noodle soup and the crab cheese«puffs” – both were very underseasoned and bland. We liked our beef and eggplant entrees, but not enough to try here again given other faults.

Worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. I’m Chinese and like to think that I know what good Chinese food is. This is fake Chinese food for whiteys. I truly think Panda Express is better.

This review is over a year late but they deserve to have it so here goes… My daughter graduated from SJSU on 5÷24÷14 and we were looking for a place to have a celebration for about 24 people. We are not local so I made the reservation about 3 weeks in advance and I chose the entrees online ahead of time so that it would be ready to serve when we got there. Their management was very accommodating when I told them that the ceremony may run late. Even though they have a small private lot, street parking wasn’t hard to find. Since there is no private room, they set a large table in the middle of the restaurant which was ok with me but I don’t know how other patrons might have felt about that. It was late lunchtime so it wasn’t too busy. The food was really good — combo chow mein, mongolian beef, kung pao chicken, sweet and sour pork, and prawns with honey walnuts. I was a little worried since I had never tried their food before, but they did not disappoint. If we were local we definitely would come here often! Thank you Edna Ray!

By far, the best Chinese food in town! Everything you have here is delicious and quality. By far, the best fried rice!!! Chow mien is on point too. Gotta try this place if you’re ever in a mood for quality good food.

We’ve been coming here for years! The food is consistently yummy, big portions, reasonably priced, and LOVE Jane! She’s like family :) By the way, gotta love the«Happy Birthday» song. The kids always bust up laughing.

I like the elegant décor here, and the fact that it is a hole in the wall makes it feel cozy. I wish internet cafes were like this. There are a lot of nice paintings and red décor. it was a weekend, so lunch specials weren’t available, but they had –mango chicken and prawns(or was it shrimp?), ginger lamb and something else. I ordered the ginger lamb even though I usually go for the obviously spicy items. The lamb was a generous portion, with generous amounts of fresh slivered ginger and green onions. This was good on it’s own or with the chile sauce. Complimentary pot of hot tea as well. All in all very good. Service was friendly, and I must have come at the right time because only 1 other person was there, and I got my food very quickly. If you want something mild or spicy you should let them know because they will make it to your preference. The front seat is fun to sit at – right next to the sidewalk.

One person in our party ordered the Changsha chicken. It was served cradled in aluminum foil shaped like a chicken! All the dishes we ordered; Changsha chicken, Mongolian beef, Edna Ray beef, and the chicken salad were really tasty. Their prices were reasonable and their portions were generous, more so than a competitor down the street. Our waiter was attentive and our meals were served in a reasonable amount of time. We all appreciated that they had a brown rice option instead of white rice. Their food was really tasty and their presentation was very nice too. Everyone’s taste is different so opinions are going to vary regarding how tasty their food was. Overall this place is a good value for the money. This is my new favorite Chinese restaurant in San Jose. We plan to return for the lunch special during the week.

Searching for a place to eat lunch on a Friday after 2:30:pm is nearly impossible in Willow Glen. We saw Edna Ray was still open so we sat down. Seemed a little disorganized when we first sat down– only 2 of the 4 people at the table received silverware and cups, but once we asked our server we received the tableware. The lunch special is a really good deal! You get hot n sour soup, chinese chicken salad, entrée with your choice or fried or steamed rice. We also ordered chow mein to share. I got th General Tso’s chicken and I was very satisfied. Wanted a little more heat, but still very enjoyable. Chow mein was a little too greasy for my liking, but still enjoyable. Would definitely visit again for the great lunch special!

Meh. Big disappointment on Christmas — food was very slow coming and half of it wasn’t even hot. Food quality was not as high as Pearl River, and we won’t be rushing back.

I almost love this place. Almost, because I gotta stay loyal to my roots/east lake on the east side. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed everything I’ve ever ordered here especially the beef chow fun. I never even had beef chow fun before coming here and it’s become my new obsession. I’ve only sat down and ate there once, all other orders have been take out. Fried rice, honey prawns, chicken salad, and wonton soup are worth ordering too. Pro tip: the chow fun is more saucy if you eat in, but they stuff the takeout box to capacity if you get it to go. Choose wisely.

3STAR. Edna Ray is a little hole in the wall Chinese restaurant in downtown Willow Glen, which may have become our new quick Chinese go-to place in the San Jose area. As it is with most of the smaller Chinese restaurants(wherever you go), it can be very hit or miss. We were walking around downtown Willow Glen earlier this week looking for a place to eat and we saw that there weren’t that many people eating inside of Edna Ray. We grabbed the menu and saw that the prices looked pretty decent, so we decided to give it a try. The first thing that we noticed was that there were only 2 ladies waiting, serving, and cleaning every table in the restaurant. There were about 5 – 6 parties when we were there, so it took a while for one of the ladies to come up to us to take our order and answer some of our questions about the menu. We ended up looking through the menu and found the family dinner section of it. There was a Classic Edna Ray Dinner for $ 13.95 per person, which includes the following: Won Ton or Hot and Sour Soup, egg roll and fried prawns, fried or steamed rice, and then a choice of one of 11 entrees. The entrees we chose were the prawns w/sizzling plate and the tangerine beef. Other options included sweet and sour pork, cashew chicken, mongolian beef, and a few others. Anyway, the entrée dishes were humongous! Check out the pictures I’ve attached. We were definitely not expecting the dishes to be that big, especially after getting soup, a huge egg roll, and fried shrimp for appetizers. We also got a huge platter of fried rice with the entrees — not just a cup of fried rice, but an entire platter for both of us. RIDICULOUS, right? As for the taste of the dishes, the tangerine beef was really crispy and the sauce was pretty good — I’d rate the dish a 3 – 3.5 out of 5. The shrimp with the sizzling platter was pretty good too, but the sauce was a little bit bland — I’d rate the dish a 2.5−3 out of 5. Definitely a surprise finding Edna Ray Chinese Restaurant — I’d give it a nod over Mandarin Gourmet off of Blossom Hill in San Jose. We enjoyed our meal and will be back to try some of the other entrees next time.

My boyfriend is a Chinese food nut, and he loves Taiwan. A friend that was swirlin with us at Aqui told us about Edna Ray so we decided to give it a shot. It turned out to not be a mistake– it was amazing. Really nice people, fast & great service, and amazing food. Their triple threat kung pao is awesome. Seafood, chicken & beef. Yum. The dumplings were ginormous and full of meat. I was trying to get a picture, but my boyfriend had already devoured two before I could get my camera ready. They also have cheap beer which is always a plus. We will definitely be returning with my soon to be father in law who is also a Chinese food junkie.
