the owner of this café is a horrible cheat. He served terrible food that gave me a terrible stomach illness. I was in the hospital for several days;;his café should be shut down by the city health department or county health department. He is incompentent and a financial cheater. He agreed to pay my bills for causing my illness but then later denied the entire matter.

Piece of Cake makes decent drinks. A bit watered down in my opinion. I only really came here because their taro milk tea looked super cool!(Check pictures other people uploaded. Unfortunately, I didn’t take a picture.) Somehow they are able to keep the 3 different colors separated! Not something you see every day!

Great study place. Free wifi. Décor is random. Service is good and quick. Plenty of outlets and fairly quiet even with the music going on. Closes late. What I ordered: Mochi waffle with green tea and vanilla ice cream. 4.6÷5 Could taste the Mochi in the waffle. Made it a little chewy but was tasty. Very different. Honey hazelnut latte 3.7÷5 Very light flavors. Cute drawing on the latte though. Would come here again.

Nice place to do some work and chat with friends as there’s always seats. But the food is not great at all. don’t get the sandwiches. Price is very expensive too.

A small, comfortable and peaceful café! This place is like a hole in the wall. I’ve seen it here and there on Unilocal when I search«tea» or «café» but it never occurred to me how much it was overlooked. It was a Sunday night when my friend and I decided to study and catch up. Where we intended to go was closed, so we hopped over to the nearest place! This cozy café offers a selection of iced and hot drinks as well as a variety of desserts. A little pricey on some of the selections, but we were both happy with what we got. She ordered the Comfortable Tea set(comes hot in a tea pot) and I settled for the Mountain Green Tea, less sugar! It was the perfect drink for me! Upon request, it was not too sweet, and you can definitely taste the tea. The workers that night were the sweetest! They were patient and gave great recommendations. Parking was a breeze. They have a large parking lot and since most of the shops have already closed, there were a lot of empty spots! Later, we ordered the Mochi Waffle with Green Tea Ice cream! They added another scoop of vanilla on the house to «fill up the emptiness of plate,» which was such a small and kind gesture! We really appreciated it the little things! There were a few other tables when we arrived. Some students on their laptops and older adults catching up and chatting. Definitely different from the packed tea houses and noisy restaurants!

This place is very spacious, good and a very nice service with cool drinks involved! The music isn’t too loud and there are plenty of outlets(at least where I was). Can easily put on headphones and enjoy your own music. If not, the music there is suitable to study with as well! Girlfriend and I ordered: — Taro Milk Tea — Sweetheart coffee — Panna Cotta Milk Tea The drinks are good! Not too sweet and very flavorful! This place is located in a plaza in the corner of Mission Dr. and Las Tunas. The place is not really noticeable from the outside, but the inside is very nice: D Parking lot available. Will definitely come back here to study on a weekend.

** COFFEE&DESSERTINSGV ** Piece of Cake is another great coffee spot in the San Gabriel Valley. This is my alternative coffee spot when Love to Go is flooded with people. They have a nice selection of Japanese Coffee, Latte, Milk Tea, Slushies and Snacks such as Waffle and Toast. I normally like to come here when I like to find a quiet spot to catch up on my readings. CASHONLY $ 4 Minimum Charge /Person Free WIFI(3 hours with purchase) Drinks are about $ 5 each, 50% on refills(except Japanese Coffee) This place tends to get crowded before midterms and finals. Usually everyone is studying, so try to keep your volume down. The only thing that bothers me is that some people smoke directly in front of the entrance and the smoke comes into the coffeeshop. They should really keep the front doors closed and enforce the no smoking within 10 feet from entrance rule.

Tip #1: CASHONLY My boyfriend had a bad experience with the service here a while ago and he never wanted to come back. But after my constant nagging, he finally decided to give it another try. DRINKSANDDESSERT: 1. Earl Grey Milk Tea(hmm…I wonder who ordered that.) This was not bad here. You have the option to adjust your sugar level as you please. I asked for it half sweetened and thought it was A-OK. I wished the Earl Grey flavor was a bit stronger. 2. Iced Coffee Float — I thought this was pretty good. Just sweet enough with the bit of ice-cream on top. 3. Tiramisu with Ice-Cream — A pretty yummy late night dessert. I didn’t expect it to be anything special, but it actually tasted pretty good! It’s not the best tiramisu cake I’ve tasted, but if you’re here and want something to munch on while drinking a drink, this is a good one to get. SPACE&SERVICE: According to my boyfriend, the service here was so much better this time. I also thought it was good. The waitresses who helped us were very friendly and helpful when taking our order. The drinks and food came out fast, too. The ambience of this place is pretty cozy and comfortable. The music wasn’t blaring so it makes it a nice place to study. FINALVERDICT: Piece of Cake’s drinks didn’t particularly blow my mind, but it is a pretty decent place to come and relax, sip some tea, and munch on dessert with friends or on your own. I’d return again and try something else next time.

That feeling you get when your food arrives, and you realized you just overpaid for a crappy meal you could make at home but force yourself to eat it and not fully waste your money. Sadly, that’s how I felt the first(and last) time I stepped in here. But let’s be fair and measure out the pros/cons: (+) Spacious interior (+) Plenty of tea /milk tea options — the one I ordered was delicious(hazelnut milk tea) and not too sugary (-) Food: maybe I just made a poor decision, but I went for the kimchi ham sandwich. Came as simple, straight forward, and sad as you would imagine: store-bought ham slice on Kraft single sliced cheese & kimchi between two pieces of white bread + side lettuce & corn topped with thousand island dressing. I think I paid about $ 7 for this which was definitely not worth it. I guess I had high hopes for some innovation to make it taste good! Sigh. (-) Price: overpriced for sure. They expect you to pay I believe at least $ 4 to stay here at the café. (-) I felt uneasy being here as I got the feeling the owner wasn’t too keen on people studying /doing work at the café. All people with laptops are relegated to a certain part of the room. (-) Wifi is spotty and not great to do work + other things I mentioned above (-) $ 10 minimum for card, otherwise it’s cash Overall, not worth the price or the time. Plenty of other places around the area that can offer so much more with a more welcoming vibe. Off to explore more places!

Piece of Cake Café is an adorable, family owned tea bar/dessert shop. First thing I noticed upon walking into Piece of Cake Café was the social media board. They had me at hello. It’s always fun to tweet or Instagram something and to see it showing up on the board in real time. Piece of Cake serves an Asian fusion selection of goodies that includes espresso, Japanese coffee, macchiato, desserts and snacks! I loved being able to grab a seat at their bar and watch the barista make my drink up close and personal. It also made for some great Instragram video! I ordered a hot Almond Honey Japanese Coffee. It was so fun to see it being made. Makes you appreciate all the work and nuances that go into make a great cup of java. Also, tried something more fruity. The red/purpleish drink is the Rubyberry Ice Tea, which is made of Strawberry, Black Currant, Raspberry, and Elder Berry. For our main course dessert, we ordered their French inspired Strawberry Panna Cotta dessert. It had a really nice milk taste, but with the consistency of flan. I would definitely order it again. Overall, I’d definitely add Piece of Cake to my list of go-to tea houses. It’s always nice to have a place open late. They open until 12 am most days. The fact that they have ample parking doesn’t hurt either.

Piece of Cake Café was more like Piece of Sh*t. The drinks are fair but I do not appreciate the stupid rule a few of the other SGV teahouses enforce: $ 4+/minimum per person. Look, I know you guys need to make up for the time people hog up your space to study — just know I hate the rule. It is a cost of doing business and you know what? I rather go to Denny’s and not be forced to pay these stupid minimums or get it to go and drink it outside in the parking lot. Then again, the drinks don’t blow my socks off so there isn’t a need for me to patronize this type of place. Do NOT order the croissant club! It’s a freaking Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich from Costco!!! Seriously! Add to that poor excuse of a sandwich: two pieces of stale garlic bread and a sad salad topped off by weird white dressing and corn. If you are going to charge $ 7, at least go get real croissants from Coscto to slap between some deli meat, cheese, and lettuce in between. What an INSULT to be served this lame processed frozen sandwich. I had to point that out. Why even put this on the menu? At least you can do something creative with the stale croissants like make bread pudding and sell that crap for $ 6+. So you’re welcome for a brand new menu item idea. Sorry, we won’t be coming back — there are plenty of teahouses to visit.

The cute relaxing café has a more mature clientele than places like Factory Tea House so you can actually study and chat with your friends without having to yell. The music is 103.5 fm with lots of romantic music. The sandwiches are delicious and comes with some salad on the side. I recommend the croissant sandwiches. There are also a wide variety of drinks to choose from. My favorite is the cold Sweetheart coffee. I didn’t care for the Oreo Shake as much. For dessert, I highly recommend the strawberry panna cotta. You can add boba for an extra special treat. The house made mochi waffle is yummy too. Overall, a good café that opens late. Bring cash as it’s cash only.

CASHONLY MINIMUM $ 4 /PERSON TOSITIN Private parking lot. CLOSEDTUESDAYS —— Panna cotta milk tea: the black milk tea is standard fare, you should probably get it with reduced sugar. Instead of pudding, they use panna cotta as a topping. It’s quite an interesting change up. Matcha latte: As I mentioned before, their drinks lean on the sweeter side, so ask for less sugar! Otherwise, flavor is okay. They play oldies in here! It’s a nice environment to study in or just chat with friends.

Cash only. If you speak Mandarin, service is 100% times better. French pastry brick toast was sweet but hard to slice once it got cold. The cream on the side was very light and airy though. Ok place. $ 4 minimum to dine in.

Very chill place to hang out with your friends or to study, or to just come here for late night snacks. The food was ok, very arty. But a bit too pricey tho based on the portion of it. I’m glad I found this place :) Would come back once in a while

Another good study spot to go to in San Gabriel. It has it’s pros and cons. Ok, so my friend and I were at Honey Badger for about 3 hours, and then we went to go eat at Boiling Crab. We were too embarrassed to go back to Honey Badger(«those girls AGAIN?! yeesh!») and we also wanted to try a new place. Sooo, we went on Unilocal and decided to go to Piece of Cake. When we first went in, the employee(there was only one guy working at the time) seated us in the front. I asked him if we could put two tables together, and he said no. This upset me, because there were no other customers and there were plenty of other tables for other customers to sit at!!! And then I realized I needed an outlet, and in order to use the outlet I needed to sit at another table. So we just sat at another table, and later he came back(I think he could tell I was annoyed) and told us that we could conjoin two tables for now. OK I guess. The place where we were sitting was in a dark little corner toward the front of the store, there was literally NO light! I couldn’t even read my papers that were right in front of me, it was that bad. I was so annoyed by this point, I didn’t even want to order anything. This nightmare of a café only turned into a good experience after my friend and I migrated to the back of the café, where there were bigger tables and a lot more lighting. We finally ordered drinks and a dessert, and the guy turned out to be a lot more chill than I had previously thought. When I decided to give the place a chance, I realized the ambience was really relaxing, and the whole place was pretty quiet(with the exception of KOST103.5 type of music). I think I would go back to this place ONLY if I knew I would get a good seat with good lighting. FOOD&DRINK — I ordered the iced Comfortable Tea, which has chamomile and lavender in it. It was really good! It was refreshing and tasted flower-y, which I love. — My friend and I ordered the brick toast, which was teeny. I was pretty disappointed by this, because I paid for something that I could’ve just made at home! :(It’s not as big as the one from Guppys, just FYI.

Was craving for something fruity so ordered the Iced Tea w/Fresh Fruits. For about $ 5, this drink was not worth it! I thought it would be like the one from Phoenix but it wasn’t =(It was basically store bought fruit juice(cranberry/blueberry blend) with 4 huge chunks of lemons(yes, lemons), one small slice of kiwi, two small raspberries and a blackberry… What the! The cushion seats are sooooo uncomfy! They definitely need to be re-upholstered. The restrooms were dirty and gross. Parking pretty much sucks. Good luck finding a spot! With so many other tea spots around, this one is a definite PASS! FYI, they have a stamp card but it’s only valid for To-Go orders.

RAWRRR! My boyfriend and I came here in search for a good study spot… so here we are. PROS: — Good study spot with plenty of open tables on a Saturday night and closes at midnight. — Variety of different water-down coffee drinks and snacks CONS: (1) $ 4MINIMUMCHARGE: We originally wanted to order the Twilight Teapot($ 6.50) to share, but the waitress told us it didn’t meet the minimum order of $ 4 per person. And to top it off, she added that unless we only stay for 30 minutes or so, we need to order more. So much for customer service. It’s a SLOW Saturday night, and there’s barely 4 people here. Do you really want to «shoo away» your business like that? I understand if it was getting busy here, and needed to reserve seats for other customers. (2) MAXIMUM3HOURSOFINTERNETUSE: So we finally ordered and paid for our overpriced, watered down drinks, and only to find out that you are only allowed 3 hrs of wireless use. Dang. Since when did this turn into a «PC Bang /Café» that will expire your internet use? ** A previous Unilocal review by Linda said it best: «Internet: Why did I get a fortune cookie paper that say 3 hours max? This is probably one of the reasons why I wouldn’t come here. I don’t think I’ve been to a place where it limits your internet.» (3) OVERPRICEDWATERED-DOWNDRINKS: We ordered hazelnut latte and vienna coffee. Both were watered-down and bland. No coffee flavor and worse than instant coffee. Did I just pay $ 5 for this??? I don’t care what fancy coffee drip maker you used to make it, if it doesn’t even please the palate. — — — Overall: Study spot: 4 stars Watered down coffee: 2 stars «Big Brother» service and restrictions: 1 star

Peachy! It’s not peach season yet, but I’ll take some iced Peach Green Tea! It was mighty refreshing. I also liked this place because it’s small yet roomy. Plus, not a lot of people were here when I came on a weekday. Only con for me is the lack of music variety(mostly Asian pop music?) Overall, I guess I wouldn’t mind coming back here to study.
