Golden Step Concrete & Masonry

Here is my experience with Enrique and Golden Step:
1. Saw CL ads, good photos, looked on Unilocal,found a couple good reviews. So far so good.
2. E-​mailed Enrique asking him to call and set up appt. Need to do a drieway, fireplace, and some other smaller masonry jobs.
3. Wait 5 days. No reply. Email him again via their site, and via Unilocal.
4. Wait another 3 days, no reply.
5. Call his phone # listed and get voice mail, twice. Twice leave messages asking to call. No response (still no email also).
6. Finally, decide to send a text. Tell him it’s obvious they are too busy for my «small» (10k+) bit of masonry work, and thanks but no thanks.
7. Get a text reply from him, saying they are busy for two weeks. No explanation of why no email reply, no offer to come out and bid/​look at my job, no management or organizational skills exhibited in any way.
8. Get 2^nd text an hour later, he offers to come out on the weekend. I said no problem, texted my address, asked him to call when he is coming.
9. No visit, no call, no text.
ADIOS, Enrique and golden step! Methinks there are quite a few masonry contractors in LA to be screwing around with a firm that gives such poor cust. service even BEFORE a check is handed over.

Enrique just finished doing my side yard and it’s GREAT! Just like Billy E. said, they are extremely professional and don’t try to get a bunch of money from you up front (he even told me that he didn’t want to take my money before finishing the job). I think that shows what kind of confidence he has in their abilities to do a good job. Bottom line, they take great pride in their work. It’s funny, I called so many people before Enrique and their prices were either ridiculous or they would say they were going to call you back but never did (I’m so tempted to name the companies, who are on Unilocal,that basically treat you like crap but I won’t). It’s was such a headache! But Golden Step came through big time. I would hire them again in a heartbeat if I needed concrete work again.

This company recently finished a paving stone job around my pool area at my home in Encino and I couldn’t be happier with the job. I had a horrible experience with a different contractor who did my driveway a few years back. I found Enrique and his company on Craigslist so naturally I was a little hesitant. The company is licensed, bonded and extremely professional. I went to look for the company on Unilocal to write a review and there was no entry for it. A contractor like this should not have to rely on Craigslist for business so I went ahead and created the entry on Unilocal for Enrique. These guys work every day until the job is finished. Most guys want money up front and want more after day 1, day 2 etc. With Enrique I had to ask him if he wanted some money b/​c I felt bad he was coming out of pocket for so many expenses after the first few days. Finding an honest, fair, and relatively reasonable paving stone/​mason guy is not easy in LA (with a license). Some of the prices I got from other contractors bids were more than double what Enrique did the job for. Others came in around the same price but I did not feel comfortable with them or they were unlicensed. Enrique and his guys work very hard, were extremely precise and went out of his way to do things the right way and not cut corners as he takes a lot of pride in his work.
