WaveHouse Beach Club

EXTREMELY rude staff. Poor service. I asked them a simple question, «Do you have toothpicks?» They looked at me like I was from a different planet, and proceeded to not even answer me so I asked again because I thought they didn’t hear the question and one of the servers replied, «you’ve asked me 20 times and we still don’t have toothpicks.» Wtf??? If you want to go here and feel bullied and unimportant, wave house is the place to go. NOT RECOMMENDED, don’t waste your money here.

I would lower you service expectations if you go here…
In San Diego Mission Beach last weekend with my girl friend and another couple. We hung out by the Wave Pool for over 3 hours that was very entertaining. The location and environment doesn’t get much better. Our server Christine who was new. We ordered the 16 oz beer on special for $ 6.00 and discovered that the beers are only 14.9oz. We questioned the beer size with the manager Richard who got defensive, cocky then rude. It was really no issue but wanted to bring it to his attention.
We ordered Nachos and 10 mins later was told they were out of Guacamole. Poor Christine came back 15 mins later saying they were also out of Sour Cream. A few mins later, we watched the big security dude who looked strung out on something serve a sandwich/​fries to a customer. Before serving, he stopped by 2 female friends by the gate who took a few French Fry’s off the plate before serving to a customer, seriously.
The bathrooms were disgusting, even though they had someone cleaning them periodically. The men and women’s stall were so small your knees hit the door that had no latches or locks, get the picture…
After waiting for 45 mins, we noticed several customers getting sour cream and guacamole, so we asked Christine and then informed us they may now have it. After waiting for over an hour for our nachos, we decided to cancel our order and leave. We went south on the boardwalk to a Margarita bar that has margarita glasses on the boardwalk fence by the pier and got an incredible plate of Nachos in less than 5 mins.

This is probably one of the most unprofessional business in Mission Beach. Had a going away with about 50 Marines they denied us entrance with out any valid excuse. Just because we had a few plaques to award our brothers leaving. The management was rude and the security was extremely aggressive and verbally assaulted us. I myself do not recommend this place to anyone.

Terrible food. Fries were served cold and sandwich was extremely average. Only gets a one star for location.

Awesome atmosphere! Our waitress was very nice and prompt. The manager Derek came by to check on us and our food. He was very interested in our experience and wanted to make sure we were having a good time, and we did!

So where do I start — me and my buddies been going to this place for the past 6 years, we seen it transform from rave party central to family restaurant/​bar. For the longest this place has been our Sunday get away to the beach place to be, up until Sunday may 22^nd 2016! As me and my biker buddies (bike club fellow members) set sail on a fun Sunday outing to the beach we are all in bright smiles and joy of just being able to get away from work together and enjoy each others company and a drink. We arrive to the wave house leather cuts on, but based on prior visits we know being 10 – 15 members of a dark ethnicity can cause some of those of the lighter complexion to get nervous or be at unease. So as we walk up to the bar, (before the security can say anything) we remove our leather cuts brandishing our club name, and fold them up and carry them up to the bar, before getting to the bar a security guard approached up to make sure we all had them removed and let us go on our way. We are there for about a total of 15 mins, we are all at the bar spending money creating revenue for establishment and the bartender (gorson) who was actually really down to earth and cool with us that day and every day prior to that. We each order a beer and a shot (as routine) and continue to converse with each other by the bar and with other patrons who were intrigued to see such a diverse biker club (white, African American, Hispanic and middle eastern members) all having a good time despite race color ect, and not being the rude arrogant norm that everyone sees bikers as. About 5 mins into our beer the African American security guard (with tattoos on his face) came to tell us to remove any other property displaying our bike logo, so we did ! (A sweater) as we continue to drink no being aware of the angry Caucasian female manager staring us down the whole time, we think everything is fine. 2 mins later the same young tattooed faced security guard came to let us know that we had to order food to be able to stay, and he advised us that the managerial team was uneasy due to seeing soo many young men of color in the same section and they didn’t want us to scare off the older Caucasian families and kids. So they cleared a table for us by the bathrooms and had us hang in that section. Not only 5 mins later the same young security guard came to tell us that we had to finish our drinks and leave cuz the manager felt that we were goin to get roudy at some point in time of our visit. I personally didn’t appreciate her sending the young African American male to talk to us and do her dirty work, so I proceeded to approach her in a nicely fashion to discuss what might the issue be? She instantly came off hostile and cut me off mid sentence, saying she doesn’t need a valid reason to tell us to leave or anything of that nature. I then tried after about 4 or 5 times to speak, ask her the rhetorical question that always stems back to prejudice, is it cuz we are minority’s?! She then got a lil more upset and yelled for me to leave her the f** alone and she doesn’t have to explain anything to someone like me!!! ??? I not once came at her in any fowl way, and showed nothing but respect and since someone of her age and position would show the same !! But no she didn’t she walked away to a group of security guards and was not even looking our way, so being the smart situation avoidable man that I am I instructed my fellow friends and family to follow me off the premises to avoid any further problems. As we did without incident !!!
This makes me sick to my stomach, I have children who are biracial some white some African American. I would hope that they would never have to deal with any ignorance like this ever in there life, but I’m sure with the arrogant simple minded people that flood our good city will make sure that it happens. All I’m saying is we were all white it would have been alright !!! So unhappy with this place and feel disgusted that I spent money the past 6 years here.

With 14 people 1 don Julio shot 10 $each 1 beer 6 $ each spent 224 $ and we all tipped the bar tender so if we were there for 60 mins and kept up the pace we could have easily spent 1300 – 1500 $ just on drinks not including food and other things. So while the manager on her 13 $ a hour pay took away some good tips from the bartender and his family and whatever server that would have served us: oh and by the way we had all types of people talking with us old and young that were mad we had to leave, and the big wigs of the company were in a cabana looking at us laughing the whole time.
I’d rather go to backyard in pb or cabo cantina down the st. Or even sandbar across the st was very cool and there hospitality was superb to wave house. Make

Came back here for my friends wedding! It was great! The staff were incredibly accommodating, the food was good, the drinks were flowing! The view from the second floor can’t be beat! We got to see the sunset as the bridal party gave their speeches. It was just incredible.

This turned out to be an awful experience for me. We were out hanging out at the beach and were hungry for food. This place is literally a few feet from the sand so very conveniently located. The atmosphere seemed great, and the wave/​surf thing is super cool. We sat and ordered a food and a drink and waited for a food.
10 minutes… 20 minutes… 30 minutes… No food or drinks
So I flag a server and just confirm that my order is being taken care of, he assures me it is. So now I’m battling time because I have to drive home and get ready for work. We 1 hour goes by and still nothing. To be fair, they seemed really busy running around everywhere, but not once did they check on us. At this point, I really have to get ready to leave and still no food in our belly’s. I get up and tell a waiter that we have to leave and they apologize and said there was a mixup with the order and they would take care of it right away. I tell him not to go through the struggle and to just take care of the next customer.
This is my only experience with them and seems like a really cool place, but I was extremely disappointed with the service. Maybe they just had a bad day, i don’t know. I might consider going again since I often frequent myself in this beach.

Came in to have a beer sat at the bar answer my phone turn around for 2 seconds the bartender threw away my cigarettes through my lighter threw away my beer. When I asked you about it the bartender was very very rude.

I love the unique concept of this establishment. I wasn’t prepared for what I was about to experience and there is much more of an investigation that needs to occur. Like, can I get in the hot tubs and spectate the wave from up close? How do people not smile when they are riding that fun wave? Lol, there were some very emo teens with straight faces. I didn’t try any food, but I had two delicious Margaritas. I think $ 12 was reasonably priced for the view, the action, and the atmosphere. Maybe next time I will even give it a whirl on the wave!

Decent place to relax by the beach and grab some drinks. Awesome for people watching and getting your tan on at the comfort of a table. Drinks/​foods are overpriced due to the location. They don’t have any beers on tap, just in cans which is a bummer. Service is decent at best due to the size of the place. I’d possibly come again for a drink but wouldn’t go out of my way to do so.

This is one of my favorite day drinking spots during the summer time. Great atmosphere, beach 20 feet away and good drinks! I always like to garb a spot either close to the water or near the wave to watch the surfers that ride. Its pretty decently priced and I have always gotten great service; bartenders are all very friendly. I have never eaten here but that just leaves me with another reason to return!

Terrible service. I came by and they didn’t serve me a drink because I only had my military I.d. Apparently that’s not enough verification and people can just craft military i.ds. Very uncomfortable environment. Will Not be coming back again.

We’ve stopped by here a couple of times at different times of the year when we were visiting San Diego.
The location is great! Has that awesome beach vibe to it. Plentiful seating, but if you want a «desirable chair» you should probably get there early. The music is always going. Sitting under a cabana is nice.
The drinks and snacks are pricey, but it’s expected with the beach location. I don’t really think this is the place to come for food as much as it is for the party atmosphere and surfing. We had the truffle fries and they were pretty good, but I wish there would have been more in the order for the price. We’ve had some frozen drinks and the beer comes in aluminum bottles.
It’s the beach, so you will get sand in your shoes, open toed is probably best.
It defiantly has a good vibe to it. If you’re looking for fun and sun, loud and partying, or even catching it in the late afternoon. I just love being right on the water, so maybe I’m a little biased ;-)
The only reason I gave 4 stars, is because like any other beach location, the bathrooms leave much to be desired!

It’s a cool place to hang out. Service kind of sucks. Don’t ask to turn on the fire pits… because obviously they don’t have that figured out yet. Asked 3 different people to turn them on all said they would look in to it and not one followed up. Still sitting here with no fire. Thanks

Eh, its ok. No hostess at the entrance to sit you down. You just c’mon in. It’s a laid back atmosphere with fire pits, sand on the floor, wood benches and beach chairs. The food and drinks were okay. Service was weird.
Stopped at the wave house after some wave watching. There was not a lot of people. So you could basically sit wherever you want. There was a female waitress that approached us first and she was very sweet and accommodating. Then our waiter came to take our order but as we look down at our menu to read the item to him, he disappeared. It was so weird, I looked down for a second and as I’m lifting my head to tell him what I wanted I seen him run off toward the bar. We all just looked at each other like, okaay. But then what made it worst is he didn’t come right back to our table, he went over to the table across from us and disappeared again. That basically went on for the entire time we were there. He kept disappearing.
I would return to have a drink at the bar and chill at the fire pits but nothing else. Its probably a totally different scene in the summer. The venue itself is cool and the location is good too. Its right by the beach and it’s connected to Belmont park and the boardwalk.

Seriously, you need to hire a chef who knows how to accommodate ALL your guest, including vegans. Dropping some mushrooms, onions & lettuce on a piece of bread is completely thoughtless & flavorless. If your «chef» doesn’t know how to cook at least one vegan dish he/​she should advise your guest or you should hire a real chef. (A picture of the dish has been submitted for your review. It’s shameful & offensive.)

This place from how i remember it was very cool.
Food wasn’t the best, but i didn’t come for the food.
Tried the small wave in the back and had a great instructor who was fun and patient. Will come back.

This place is a joke. The prices here are way to high and the customer service here is poor. If your a visitor from anther state or country please don’t waste your time here. Your food will be late cold and never on time. I suggest you try some places down in PB. The parking structure is a joke get your car scratched or dented with ppl parking to close.

If and when I have a Saturday, or Sunday off while it’s nice out, I want to spend it here. I literally can sip on light beers all day while watching surfers, one after one, eat it in the wave machine. It’s amazing. The music is always on point, the foods great (it’s more of a basket sandwich, salad, burger, quesdilla, and brunch food place, but its good. Great deal on a bootle of champagne at bunch too!) and the vibe is just irreplaceable. If you haven’t been, you’re missing out on life. Bar hint: Order from Nick.

The Wave House Beach Club is exactly what the name says it is a party on the Southern California beach!
The wave is super cool to sponge, surf, and just watch I mean come on the barrel swallows you up and spits you out into a pool in the corner that leaves you wanting your next ride!
They have a bunch of tables scattered across the beach club in between the two bars that are serving up cold beers and their piña coladas that taste like the dole whip with a shot in it!
The beach club is a perfect place to hangout and get away from some of the Belmount Park craziness for a bit as it’s also kid friendly so bring the grommets to check out the wave!
This has always been one of my favorite places to visit for many years and it has never let down I mean come on there isn’t many places on the Cali beaches where you can have a cold drink in your hands and kick back with friends wile watching one of those beautiful Southern California sunsets beach side!
I’m sure it will only be a matter of weeks before I find myself back here for another awesome time at the Wave House!

You know what?! This place is pretty cool! I used to avoid it like the plague! I couldn’t stand the thought of the crowded scene with super loud house music… But lately it’s pretty chill! Lots of open space, a view of the beach from pretty much every seat and pretty good service! I’ve stopped here on pretty much every board walk bike ride lately! I have a way better time then draft next door with a better view!

What the heck is wrong with these people that work there they are very unprofessional and the service takes over 30 minutes to an hour just to have some drinks before you order your food of the menu. I’ve done here a few times and that is always the issue you order it takes 20 minutes for them to put your order in then another 20 minutes to get a drink I love the location but man their service needs hey major renovation.
The reason I’m writing this review it’s because I was walking through this place to go to cannonball and was told by one of the people that work here that I’m not allowed to walk that way even though I have walked that way many times. Complete morons lack of customer service and attentive to the customer is definitely an F.

The WaveHouse has the beachy vibe even with sand in the bar area!
Sweet service.
Come by and catch people surfing the man made waves.
There’s also plenty of seating and different parts of to chill at here as it is a big venue.
The music is always pretty good and there are a few different bars to get your drink on.

The Wavehouse will rip you off just to watch some kid surfing on a machine. Your money is better spent elsewhere.
Price:Everything is absurdly overpriced and tastes horrible. I only ordered 2drinks and nachos and the total was already $ 40.
Taste: Both the california coolada and strawberry icee tasted like pure sugar and were served in a flimsy plastic disposable cup. They were not good drinks. I’ve had them before and they were much better. The nachos had very little cheese so once we finished the top, we were basically left with a bowl of dry tortilla chips.
Cleanliness:
We sat at the bar where the bartender had left out toppings like olives, pineapples, etc in a tray in the sun where the flies were over it.
Service: Very bad service. The nachos took about 20minutes to make even though the place was nearly empty. To top it all off, our bartender Stephanie overcharged my card $ 27! So now instead of paying $ 45 which was already an insane amount for one item of finger food and two drinks, my card had been charged $ 72. It took me four days of constant calling and no one would point me to the right person. The only person that finally was able to help me out, their accountant Belinda was able to refund me what they had overcharged.
The WaveHouse made no attempt to make things right with me and after all the hassle they dare to still keep the tip I gave them along with the absurdly overpriced receipt. I’m not just an angry guest, I have worked customer service my whole life and whenever their was a mistake on the company that I worked for, the guest received a full refund no questions asked. I have been offered nothing to make things right on their part and they have definitely lost me and my friends as customers.

I’m in love with San Diego.

— Atmosphere is super chill, relaxed and entertaining :) Large white umbrellas, chic picnic tables, large bar area and island music playing all the time! check out the wave machine — and watch as kids and adults catch all the waves they can!
— Only sampled some of the beverages on the outdoor patio and loved their generous pours!
— Staff is super friendly and fun!
I would def return here for some cocktails and food next time I’m in town! love me some mission beach!

As awesome of a location as this place is, I was a bit disappointed.
The bar is outdoors, has a wave pool, and the seating is on the sand with a clear view of the ocean. It has a pretty cool vibe to it. The staff is really nice, but the service is slow. Know what you want when they come to take your drink order, otherwise you won’t see them until you wave them down and it seems to take forever to get your check.
The food the food the food… The food isn’t that good. The chicken tenders were small and were over cooked. It was like biting into a hockey puck. (I was expecting the fries to taste like shit too, but they were actually pretty good). I’m hoping this time was just a fluke, though looking at other reviews, I can expect the same next time. Food might be average, but I’ll be back for, let’s face it, the drinks on the beach and the bomb view.

I appreciate this place because it’s probably the only bar in San Diego that has real sand inside!
Not only is it located right next to the shorelines, but you can eat or drink at a table here and still have your feet in some sand! And don’t worry the sand is pretty clean for what it is.
Usually you have to be 21+ to enter, but more recently I’ve seen tons of families and their children in here as well. I suppose they turned it into more of a restaurant rather than a bar.
I hear they used to have a lot of DJs come perform here but they don’t do that anymore which sucks because this would’ve been a great place to rage!
Their food is ok. Nothing special.
Their truffle fries are rally popular. They have great flavoring but the fries themselves are ok. I think they should use thinner fries.
The drinks here are very reasonably priced.
I like their slushie alcoholic drinks.
The vibe here is chill and relaxing. I love their cabanas. Everything is open seating so you can grab a seat whereever you find is available!
And of course you can catch some waves here at their automated wave machine!
