I went here for an early dinner and was not very impressed. The place was dirty… it looked like the tables have never been moved to clean under them. I also went into the bathroom which was a mistake, there was toilet paper on the floor and the toilet wouldn’t flush all the way either. The sushi wasn’t horrible though. I guess that’s what’s preventing me from giving it two or one star because at least for happy hour the price wasn’t bad. I would only go back though if drug there by friends if we happened to be in the area… which is not likely.

I went for the first and probably last time on 4÷15÷14 at 8:45pm to take advantage of their 50% off deal. The place was about 90% full when I arrived. I sat at the bar and put in a drink order within a couple minutes. I ordered food when the drink arrived about two minutes later. I ordered three rolls. I sat at the sushi bar twiddling my thumbs as I watched the place clear out. Flash forward 50MINUTES after placing my order and the place is at about 10% capacity and I still have no food. My server asked the kitchen how long it would be and she informed me another 15 – 20 minutes at which point I told her to cancel it because I didn’t have enough time to wait. I wish I could review the food. I walked up Garnett to Miko Sushi, got my food in about five minutes(also 50% off), and just found my new PB sushi spot!

This place is now called Kato Sushi I believe, but is where the old Tokyo House used to be… and it doesn’t say it’s closed yet so I’ll go ahead and leave my latest review. The interior is new and fresh, and service über friendly. They have their own side parking lot next to the restaurant if you’re stressed looking for parking in PB.($ 3 an hr or $ 10 all day). I came in to meet up with friends and family on a friday afternoon, and had a very pleasant lunch. We sat up at the bar where all the sushi is being made. The glass with all their fresh fish in it is pretty high, so it’s kinda disappointing that you can’t ACTUALLY watch your sushi being made… unless maybe you’re a giant and can see over the glass? Their menu looks new — and has any roll you can imagine. I went safely with my avocado roll, but also tried a fried calamari roll($ 4 + $ 11?) Their specialty rolls all seem a little pricey. But the ingredients were fresh, and my rolls came out tasting amazing. My cousin and his girlfriend ventured more on the spicy side, and had things like a habanero roll?! and some jalapeño poppers/rolls, and idk what else. A lot of tuna tho. But they indeed lived up to their names, and were very spicy. My cousin was breaking a sweat halfway thru our meal, and usually he can handle spicy stuff like no bodies business… so watch out! I’ve been here a couple of times. And even tho the food is yummy, there’s never really been anything that’s made me feel like this restaurant is the tops. I could really take it or leave it. But it is one of the BETTER restaurants I’ve had the chance to visit in PB so, maybe that makes it worth checking out.

I went to the Tokyo House last weekend in Pacific Beach. Turns out they have awesome deals on sake and Sapporo beers, was like buy a beer and pay one cent for sake. Clearly an easy situation to take advantage of while in the area. I did not have a chance to try their sushi because clearly I just go places to drink. ha ha ha. But… it was delish and the servers were very nice to my amigas and I. I’d probably go back again! This time I’ll drink less and tell you guys just how much the sake bombs and Sapporo really was. ;)

I go to San Diego often and the last time I was there(which was a few months ago), I went here to eat and LOVED the food. I read a couple of the reviews and was pretty surprised at some of them. I thought the food was awesome and so was the service. Everyone was friendly and attentive. I love the inside of the restaurant and thought it was very clean. I will go here again when I visit San Diego!!!

This place has a neat interior and a friendly staff, but time and time again, I’ve had umm… stomach issues after eating here! The«Manager Special» is my favorite roll here, and you can’t beat the drinks(the house Pinot Noir is actually not bad– try it sometime!) The staff is super friendly and really care about your dining experience. Last time I was here, some drunk dude puked at the bar, and it splashed on mine and my date’s food/drinks. They replaced it all… and THEN some! They gave a free round of drinks, and some free appetizers, which was a really nice gesture. Unfortunately, this is PB, so you have to deal with pukey drunks sometimes… what can you do? The reason this place gets three stars is that I have been«punished» a few times after eating here! Nothing too terrible(not food poisoning or e-coli or anything like that) .but definitely not pleasant either. If they fix that issue, it would be my top sushi place in PB!

Interesting place, a Japanese restaurant staffed by Brazilians. Well I went here because Ichiban was closed and should have known better. The waiter who seated us was nice and gave us a free miso soup The lady who brought the food was not very polite and I thought it was odd I had to ask for soy sauce after the sushi arrived. The bento box type meal was not very good and the disco music doesn’t go with the idea of a Japanese restaurant. The bathrooms are gross and I just won’t come back just as the waiter never came back after we got our food.

I dig this place. Good food, new management…(new owner is really cool, personable, and professional). The food is great, get sake if you’re going to drink… I mean, you’re at a Japanese place! Get cold rock sake… yumm @evan m. — yeaa. change the music, let the owner know!

Meh… Bathrooms are disgusting. Slow inattentive service. I normally like to sit at the bar if I am at a sushi restaurant. Not at this place! You can see how dirty their kitchen… I’ll never be back…

I went in and had the rainbow roll and ichiban roll. Javier the Sushi chef recommended the Ichiban roll and it was fresh and delicious. They had a special running for beer and sake. I had the chance to chat with the manager Carlos who was very friendly and cool. I also had a chance to chat with the owner Kevin who takes a lot of pride and integrity with his Sushi business. My server Rafiela was very friendly and cool as well. The place was clean, fun and I think this joint has a lot of potential for being Garnet streets best Sushi restaurant. Cheers!

I eat sushi about twice a week, and now that Tokyo House has new owners this is my new spot! I get first class service, and the new outdoor patio set up is perfect for a cold beer and friends. I also noticed the sushi is very fresh, much better then before. I am very happy about the new changes. The staff is very attentive and helpful. I always notice the highest level of professionalism to staff and to customers. Try the Boston and Fuji roll, they are my Fav;) Cheers!

I’m really pissed off at the new management at Tokyo House. This place used to be one of my favorite sushi places… the older tenured staff and sushi chefs were very friendly and skilled… but now some random Arabic men bought out the old owner and kept the menu and some of the staff — and the place has gone downhill within a couple months! We went tonight(Monday) where select rolls were 50% off… first, 3 different people tried to take our drink order. Disorganization right off the bat. To be on the fair side, the food quality remained about the same… good. But then we got the bill and they had charged us full price for our 2 sushi rolls that were supposed to be ½ off. When my boyfriend brought the bill up to the counter to ask about the overcharge, one of the new owners/managers blatently asked the server in hearing distance of my boyfriend, «How drunk are they?» …Almost as if he would come up with some excuse why they charged us full price if we were really drunk and would believe it. The server looked at the manager and looked back at my boyfriend who clearly heard what the guy said, and then one of the other(owners?) who had overheard came up and told my boyfriend he would take care of it. Our $ 50 bill somehow got cut in half — even though it should have only been cut by about $ 10 for the ½ price sushi rolls. It is almost as if the smarter of the owners realized my boyfriend overheard what the dumbass manager had said about asking how drunk we were, and tried to smooth things over by cutting our bill in half. (Note: we had both only had 1 beer a piece!) Long story short — Watch out for these new owners. I’m not happy at all and although I like the food, that experience made me never want to go back there again. Peace out Tokyo House! You used to be cool until you got bought out by new owners who know nothing about customer service or sushi…

The 1st two times I came here the food was a 7 and the serve was the same, but today I went and the food was a 2 at best and the service was a 0. I am easy going too, easy to please. Here is a list of what is wrong: –sale was the worst I have ever tasted and I am fine with hot Gekkeikan sake. How can you mess this yup? –the tempura tasted off and when I pellets back the batter there was a chalky white residue around the vegetables! Looked like mould. I told the waitress and showed her and she took it away BUTDIDN’T TAKEITOFF tHE BILL until I insisted. –the Tuna had no taste and based upon how good the color was I can only assume that they color their fish! So you can’t even tell how fresh the fish is. That alone makes me not want to eat here any more The rest of the sushi was just bland and boring. The best thing we had was the only non Japanese plate — Chicken Fried Rice I can’t even start to talk about how bad the service was. I felt like booing the kitchen and service staff on the way out

Wow… this is the second and last time I’m coming to this restaurant. It took literally about 30 minutes for our food to come out! The table next to us was just as pissed about the wait. It took about 10 minutes for them to bring out our edamame, and then another 20 minutes for our food. Our table was also dirty upon arrival. However, the food was decently good this time. We ordered a salmon skin roll, Boston Roll, Dragon Roll, and something else that I don’t remember. It’s also nice they had a half off menu with a nice variety of rolls on Monday night. Still. it was just appalling how long we had to wait. I’m sure it was just staffing issues. but still… not cool!

We arrived in PB on a Friday night needing some dinner and we ended up at Tokyo House because it was one of the first restaurants we came across that was still open. My non-sushi eating husband had the teriyaki chicken platter for $ 7.50. It was was essentially a bento box with chicken, rice, salad and eggrolls. I had the mix sashimi #1 for $ 13.95, which was 3 pieces each of tuna, salmon and yellowtail. Our food came out fairly quickly and I was initially impressed with the presentation. However I realized when I started moving the fancily cut veggies around to get to my fish that a couple pieces had been mangled by the sushi chef. For the price, I expected pristine cuts of fish. I also am pretty sure I was supposed to get some rice with it but I did not. What turned me off the most to Tokyo House was that shortly after we got our food the employees started closing up by bringing in chairs from outside and cleaning. The smell of the cleaner they were using was rather nauseating, and I felt rushed to finish my food and leave. Overall, not impressed in the slightest and with all the different sushi options in the area, I highly doubt I’d return next time I went to PB.

All I had were drinks here so I can’t really give more stars, but 3 stars for great drinks and our awesome server Tyrone! Holla! Great service, friendly staff. Seems like a fun place to start a night in PB with sake bombs and sushi.

Came back here with my neighbor who really likes this place. We were walking back from the beach and had a sushi craving, so we cruised on over there. Their happy hour specials have changed since I was last there. When we were there on Tuesday, it was 50% off appetizers — but we couldn’t take advantage of that because we had to order it to go since he didn’t have a shirt with him. Anyway, so the sushi was decent, but definitely not worth the non-happy hour price of $ 27 for two rolls…

Sushi here is not the best at all. I don’t understand why this place was so packed when I came. The majority of people in there must not know what good quality fish is :/ We were cruising on Garnet and wanted to grab something to eat, and ran into this place and decided to give it a shot. We had to sit on those high stool tables since all the other ones were taken up and so was the bar. Service here was whatever, kinda slow and not attentive. You have to flag them down each and every time you need something. So we ordered a mixed plate of sashimi, a couple rainbow rolls and what not. All I have to say is the quality here is not so great. Its edible and all but even at a Chinese buffet you can get better quality raw fish. It just tasted so soggy and like it hasn’t been kept cold for quite some time. Best thing we had here was the sake and Saporro beer, LOL. I’d recommend going elsewhere for sushi, otherwise if you are only coming to take sake bombs, then its all good.
