I’ve read a lot of the previous reviews & can’t say that I’ve ever experienced the poor service or «douchy — ness» described. I will say that out of the 100’s of times I’ve been here that food is good bar food, drinks are strong & reasonably priced. Their happy hour is one of the best around. Half off pitchers sitting on the deck watching the sunset make for some fond memories. Oh & forgot to mention free UfC(which I enjoyed last night) thanks sunshine.

I wish I could give less stars. I ordered the 4 dollar lemonade vodka. my friend tried a sip and agreed it was nothing but syrup so I knew it was going to make me sick. I told the bartender«im sorry I can’t drink this i don’t like it, may I have a mule of Course I’ll give you the difference if it costs more». So she gives me a mule and I give her 2 more dollars cost plus tip and she says«just Cuz you don’t like the drink doesn’t mean you don’t pay for that drink» so I had to pay for both drinks instead of just letting me pay for the difference I have never ever been treated so poorly. I paid for the mule and she gave me my change by slamming it in front of me. The people around us were like«wow, I’ve never seen people be treated that way». A guy next to me said«what a crazy rude bartender you don’t deserve that» I will never return to this bar because of how shitty I was treated. Beware of the«bartender» Leanna she will be snacking on popcorn and chips while working, blonde and guns bigger than your head.

Enjoyed playing pool here QUESTION: Who gave these OBESE bouncers who make 12k a year at 9.25 an hour such an entitled CIA/FBI douchebag attitude? It’s hilarious how much of a joke these guys are . If I owned this establishment I’d fire all your dumbA$$ «security» GUARDS and hire some normal security guards that don’t turn people off!

Love this place. Yeah, it’s a little grimy(and their speakers have been blown for as long as I’ve been coming here), but once you get to know the bartenders and the bouncers, they’re actually super nice. Love the murals on the walls, and the upstairs(when it’s open) has a great view and a nice breeze. As a vaper, it’s great to have a place I can vape and enjoy a few drinks, and I’ve met some of my favorite people in OB at this joint. I’ve gotten into some weird conversations too, but that’s OB for you.

So I’m gonna start off by saying I had a pretty awful margarita here, BUT Pete was more than accommodating and helped me and my friend switch out our drinks. He gave us new drinks without question and did it will a smile on his face. Five out of five customer service for sure.

Well, if you need to smoke while you drink this place is for you. Thick layer of nicotine and beach grime all over everything. Get that elbow grease going and shine this place up a little bit — it has a cool setup and a nice location. Good prices on the drink specials, but the inability to take credit card is a little annoying. It’s kitschy at Pac Shores but comes off as lazy and/or tax avoidant here. Nice stop on a Newport walkabout but otherwise would never become a regular place for me. Friendly bartenders though.

Not a bad place at all, especially the upstairs bar with a view of the beach and drinks just lounging with nice weather to match. OB has seen better days but for the most part there are good memories here as well. Yeah I recommend at least a few drinks here, and after that just some good old fashion bar hopping around the Newport ave strip, oh yeah…

I stopped in her because we were meeting some friends and ended up staying for about 30 minutes then left. My drink was heavy in coke(Jack and coke) and when I went to pay the bartender was pretty rude about telling me it was a cash only bar. First time there and my instinct was not to search if there were machine to accept cards. I didn’t notice any signs but maybe I just wasn’t paying close attention. I ended up just going to the ATM and taking my lashings by the ATM Fee gods and finally getting my drink.

Great views from upper deck. Inside smoking area. Average food, nothing special. They hold the O.B. Christmas auction here, which is great! 3 stars because it’s loud and crowded.

Oh Sunshine. On those nights when you are in the mood to go out like you’re 24, you can be super fun. But you have to be in the mood to go out like you’re 24. The beer is cheap-ish, the late-night mexican food is fairly satisfying, and the upstairs patio is a nice change of pace from being stuck in a sweaty room elsewhere. I won’t seek it out, but if you’re a little tipsy on Newport, you could do worse.

Who doesn’t accept cards nowadays… so inconvenient… they have an ATM in there but that’s going to cost you a $ 2-$ 3 fee and then(at least for me) another $ 2-$ 3 from my bank for using a generic ATM. No thanks. We got one drink with the cash we had(since we had already waited in line to get in, only to see the ‘cash only’ sign at the entrance angled towards the inside of the place… so you don’t see it until you ate literally about to walk in… so helpful) and then went to spend our money elsewhere. 3 stars because although the cash only is so incredibly annoying, the staff there are extremely nice and the place itself is kind of fun. I probably won’t find myself there again just because I rarely have cash on me and going there was a total spur of the moment thing, but who knows!

This place is good for groups because it is huge! Overall, however, generally underwhelming and over lit. The burrito was decent.

I was there tonight during last call, and someone walked up to me and said«finish your burritos», and I said«true story bro», because we were trying to bounce since the place was closing. Then the guy grabbed my full $ 7 beer and walked off with it and dumped it! And then he ridiculed me because he thought I said«cool story bro». Open your ears before you go assuming what people say bouncer bob. From here on out when I go there I’m gonna speak real slow to them, and then maybe they’ll understand. There’s a good chance I wont be allowed in this place that only accepts cash like a babylonian brothel, because I’m going to call them out next time I’m there, which I’m sure isn’t going to end well. Which is a bummer. I guess I’ll have to drink in one of the other 5000 places that are in the area.

i have come to appreciate this place for its cheap drink prices and lovely rooftop patio. i have been here for a evening drink before dinner — pint of racer 5, cant remember the price but i remember it being much less and much larger than i expected… as well as sunday funday early afternoon for a micheladas. using tecate cans on special, the drink was only like $ 2.50 total. the bartender said they charge only for the cost of the beer, not the tomato juice. my drinking partner got the bloody mary on special and it was strong and spicy. CASHONLY.

Sunshine is the wrong name for this creepy, depressing bar. I’d call it Darkness. I joined a group of Unilocalers/degenerates for some post-event drinks here on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn’t my idea, and I’m definitely not going back. The place is pretty big, but most of the square footage is the patio, which is packed with nicotine addicts and buried under a thick cloud of black smoke. I stayed indoors. The crowd at Sunshine is a combo of the worst parts of OB(strung-out homeless dudes) and PB(loud bros screaming at football on tv), but the bar has none of the charm of either locale. Oh, and I saw a guy with no pants on coughing up blood in the bathroom sink. I think that was the clincher for me. At least the vodka drinks were cheap.(Cash only, though.)

Open air saloon in OB. They have a sufficient variety of beer on tap. You can sit in the bar, the smoking room or the rooftop deck. Happy hour consists of ½ price pitchers of any beer. If you get hungry you can order from the Mexican place next door which conveniently has a service window inside the bar. It’s a little pricy to me. I was expecting this place to be cheaper because it’s pretty much a dive. I was also wondering how all the seemingly homeless people that drink here can afford it.

Go there at least once a week. Nice bartenders. Loud music. Pool tables. Bowling arcade. Pinball machine. Daily specials. Outside patio n upstairs area. Can def hold a lot of ppl. Phone charging station. Great place to meet new ppl, always leave with a number when I go there. Has a Mexican/American food joint connected too it, not affiliated with sunshine, so u can get a munch on.

Seriously! I freaking HATE this place. HATEHATEHATEHATEHATE. So, why did I go there, you ask? Well, I hadn’t been there for three years. But, some friends we just met in Joshua Tree were in town, and they were already there when we were able to meet up. We don’t know them well enough to be like, hell no, we are refusing to go to that place, so we had no choice but to go. Plus, my pure burning hatred of it had waned a bit in the three years since I’d been there, so I had forgotten how truly awful it is. You want to know how much two Guinness cost? $ 16.50. That’s right folks, I almost fainted when he told me the price. I’m still sick over it. I think a Guinness pretty much everywhere else on the planet is like $ 5. You want to know how many minutes you have to wait for the ONE bartender to take your order, when NOONE else is at the bar, because the ONE bartender is at the outside bar and you are at the inside bar? TEN. Minimum. You want to know how many times the bar back will ignore you, not even make eye contact, or say«I’ll let the bartender know you’re here,» and refuse do anything a normal person existing in a society will do? A MILLIONTIMES. As a rule, avoid all places in OB that have multiple security/bouncers milling about. Must be a real douchy place to require multiple bouncers to deal with all the douches. Mark my words, I will never go to Sunshine COMPANY again. Avoid at any and all costs!
