Excellent food and the atmosphere is on point! Came in to watch soccer and was not disappointed. The Guinness was poured beautifully and I throughly enjoyed the champ and steak.

NOTETOSELF: –The turkey club sandwich was bomb, and so were the vodka tonics with LEMON –don’t sit at the high top booths in the back, you slid off and the table was far from you. –order the balsamic dressing with the side salad, because the ranch was watery. PS: they have big TVs, perfect for watching the soccer games.

Yeah hard to find anything wrong. with this place. Outdoor seating, friendly staff, great food, best beers on the planet on tap, take peek inside its a pub. When you can find smithwicks, kilkenny, and guiness on tap at the same pub you have just gone to Ireland. Awesome! Had the sampler: stew, corn beef and. cabbage, shepherds pie, and my personal favorite chicken boxty. If you miss Ireland, want a taste of this great country, or want. something different, then Field’s is a must.go. I will be here every time in town, and thats often.

Just came in and had a beer. I wish I tried more if the food because it looked amazing. I can’t speak to the quality of the food but their beer selection was excellent and the atmosphere was fabulous! I love the old signs and the traditional Irish music. Definitely come when they have a live band. It is just one big party!

My son and I came here when I was visiting from Fla. We both had the Fish and Chips and Guinness. What an experience. The dark wood and sports memorbilia on the walls was interesting. The service was fast and the food affordable. If I ever visit SD again I will go back to The Field.

My husband and I heard about this pub from this Irish guy who used to own a bar in SD but now lives in Chicago. He said The Field pours a pretty good Guinness, which is very hard to find seriously around OC. Well he was right. Service is great and the place is pretty cool. Food is not so bad either. Oh and their Irish coffee. it is pretty damn good too. I’m sure we’ll be back for more of that delicious black gold when in town. Sláinte

I popped in here after a crazy day of shopping around SD. Sat at the bar and had the Shepherd’s pie which was perfect for dealing with a mild hangover. It was hearty and yummy. Several good Irish«or near Irish» beers on tap. My Harp was nice and cold. Lots of Irish whiskey too. This place has a cozy wood and rock vibe which I imagine is spot on Irish pub style. And of course bartender was straight up Irish.

Just couldn’t resist. Stopped here after a Padre game at Petco Park for a late lunch. Typical Irish fare. The wife had the Whiskey Cream Chicken Boxty(an Irish potato pancake) which she enjoyed. I was in the mood for a burger and went with their Banger burger(a mixture of beef and sausage) topped with an over easy egg. Both dishes were served with fries. Eight beers on draft, but if you are a whiskey person, they had about 12 that I noticed. Towards the back of the bar there is a blackboard that lists both upcoming live acts and upcoming soccer games with the air times. This place only opened in the late 90’s but has a dive bar feel with lots of replicas of documents, newspapers dating back to the Titanic. Staff was very friendly. They all seemed to have that Irish brogue. Whether it was the bartender or waitress. An overall nice experience. Slainte.

The Field is my «Go To» place whenever I come to San Diego. I realize, not being from SD, but whenever I am in SD, I always come here, so I’m upgrading my rating from * * * * to * * * * * It’s located far enough from Petco and the Convention Center where when it’s busy in the Gaslamp, it’s geographically immune to some of the impulse diner crowds, yet is walking distance from the heart of the gaslamp and surrounding activities/entertainment. The fish n’ chips are always good, but the go-to comfort food dish is the Beef Shepherd’s Pie. They now have a frequent diner plastic card promotion membership card where when you sign up you get, I think a 15% discount off of future dining, and it’s free to join. They ask you for your Birthday and Anniversary, so probably also gift you something for special occasions too.

I like to come here for an ice cold Guinness and people watch. Cute dogs during the day and party-ers at night, gaslamp is fun to experience and the food here is spot on delicious. St. Patty’s day gets crowded and the crowd is rowdy i enjoy it, that’s what I come here for!!!

This pub is absolutely amazing. I had a really great time. I was here on St. Patrick’s day weekend and it was absolutely memorable. The atmosphere was amazing and I really love the drinks. The famous«Irish coffee» is something you should definitely try here. They had live music from a band from Ireland. THEYWEREABSOLUTELYAWESOME! I love the Irish accent and I got to hear tons of it when I was here. This pub is so authentic I love Ireland and its people. If you want an authentic pub with authentic Irish food and drinks, then this spot is a must

I came here on St. Patrick’s Day and was overly impressed. The place was packed with a line down the block to get in. There was a $ 5 cover charge which I think may have been because of what day it was. My friends were already seated at a table upstairs, so I was able to get in to meet up with them. For appetizers my friends had ordered the potato skins, which I missed because I was late. They really liked them. For the entrée I ordered corned beef and cabbage with mashed potatoes. I have nothing to compare this to because this was my first time ever eating this, but I was pleasantly surprised. The waitress was very attentive and the service was quick, which impressed me being how busy it was. I guess this place was all reconstructed with materials brough over from Ireland, pretty cool! I will definitly be back here in the future.

Ummmm this place is YUMMMM. We are visiting from Texas and stopped in. We got Bangers and Mash and the Ploughman’s Boxty(brunch menu). They were both insanely delicious. I tried to catch a pic of the Bangers & mash but couldn’t get a photo in edgewise. Little light on the beer selection following St. Patty’s day but so glad we hung in for the food.

They revamped the happy hour menu since my last review. By «revamp» I mean they removed items, but didn’t replace with new items. Basically no lamb here anymore. Irish joint with no lamb… Just another wings and sliders happy hour now.

HEY! I loved the view from where we were sitting. We got to enjoy the corned beef sandwich and some beers, BUT I didn’t like how our order got mixed up and the waitress was apathetic to us waiting patiently for an hour(it was the view. upstairs… next to the window that made the wait okay) for our food. I WILL be coming back, but please, fix this. That wasn’t very nice because we were hungry and you told us our food got served to someone else? I’m not that harsh though, because the Field is charming and it will take more than that to keep me away. Oh! the people that were seated 30 minutes after us got their food so fast! That’s when I asked her where our food was… alas… she did not really care. BUT it’s busy, things happen, and I love you Field Irish Pub.

Yummers! …not sure if that is an official culinary description but it fits in this situation. I had something called a bloxty. potato pancake with bangers and some other yummy thick bacon stuff and some melted Irish cheese. Also Bloody Mary is great for what ails ya… in this case a bit of a head cold. A great segway to start dreaming about a trip to meet the blarney stone. Great food at great prices and lots of screens to watch the playoffs. Two thumbs up!

Overall I was a good fan here. The atmosphere was great and the we had great times, just wish the service was a little better. We sat at one of the 2 seater stool tables right as you come out from upstairs on the lower level. Everyone basically passes us, our server even passed us several times even when our drinks remained empty. But like I said, overall it was great times there. Got to watch some football and then live music after — which was great to see while visiting San Diego!

It’s an alright bar. It was slightly hard to get a drink, the bar is jam packed with people sitting so when it’s standing only it’s hard to get to the bartender– and I can’t stand that! It’s a lot of straight white men in there, so when you’re with a bunch of gay men and a couple of lesbians, you get some odd looks. I can’t say I’d put it on my return list. The Irish coffee seemed good, but nothing compares to buena vista in SF

Thank you Daniel D. Your efforts to make this right are absolutely appreciated. I can now feel good about returning to my favorite Irish Pub! This is a pretty typical Irish Pub in the heart of the gaslamp. They have all the quinticential Irish fare including BOTH shepards pie(lamb) and cottage pie(beef), both of which they do an excellent job with. The fish and chips are a hefty portion but I found the batter to be a little dense/hard/overdone?

I’m not even going to try to sound cool here. I’m a sucker for Irish accents, and when the delicious bartender greeted us and led us to the table in the corner, I was already sold on the place. Of course, it did help that the décor and general musty old-world, dark wood, irish-down-home-pubbiness of the pub brought me back to Ireland. The music(Journey?) was a little jarring and strange for the ambience… But here comes the bartender again. And this time, he’s recommending the shepherd’s pie. He says it’s «gorgeous.» My friend and I make eye-contact and we’re thinking the same thing. Speaking of GORGEOUS– Ok, this is hardly coming out to be a respectable Unilocal review. I’ll stop myself there. Fish and chips — GREAT Shepherd’s Pie — GORGEOUS ;) Beer — YUP

Fifth star… earned it! You see, the beauty of The Field is that it’s all about the people you’re with and the company that you keep. Show up here with a bunch of wet blankets and you’re sure to have an average time. Stake claim on the small patio with a bunch of comedic knuckleheads and good times are sure to be on the horizon. This was exactly the case not too long ago. We posted up for some of the best people watching and a little small talk out front and were chatting with a few undercover cops in a matter of minutes. We shared stories of growing up and they ate shepherd’s pie — weird, but awesome all at the same time. We unfortunately had to leave sooner than any of us had wanted to due to a friend having a bad date across town, but the hell-hole we ended up in made us appreciate The Field that much more.

Hands-down The best people watching in the Gaslamp. Crispy fish & chips, Check Guinness poured correctly, Check Friendly staff with authentic accents, Check Random selection of down to earth people can be found in the patio on any given day. Our dog Hank loves the place, because they love him and take nice care of him. I haven’t eaten all the things on the menu, but the fish and chips are great. I mainly go for happy hour for a nice Sculpin for a good price. If you want down to earth authentic irish pub feel, this is your spot.

Where to start… I really can’t say how thrilled I am to find a real Irish place. Being Irish, I’m somewhat of a harsh judge of traditional dishes, but I can honestly say the food is amazing and quite close to mam’s, definitely did not disappoint. The atmosphere is lively, and the staff is truly great. If only I lived closer.

I’ve overlooked this space since there’s another Irish bar on the same block, same side of the street. However, a suggestion from my guy directed me here for lunch. The inside is dark and tavern-y(for lack of a better word). It is the kind of place where you could easily drink a few pints and lose track of the time. Since I had to go back to work, I did not partake in beer drinking but instead their menu offering of half sandwich and soup. The fish sandwich was delicious, if not a bit messy. The fish still had a firmness to it and just the right amount of batter. The potato leek soup was tasty and on a cold day would sure hit the spot if served in a bread bowl. We had great service and should have visited a few days sooner for St. Patrick’s Day. Oh well, there’s always next year.

My hunt for authentic fish and chips continues in San Diego… Having been disappointed recently by another European pub down the road, I was itching to try The Field based on a stellar recommendation by a fellow Elite. I was ecstatic that the price for fish and chips here is much lower at lunch — $ 11(!) for a full serving of three fish pieces or $ 9 for a mini(two pieces of fish). But I was underwhelmed by the fish. The fish tasted bland as if it was previously frozen(not sure if it actually is though) and the batter was too thick and hard to bite into and didn’t have much flavor, even after I sprinkled with malt vinegar and salt. They serve it with a tartar sauce that has horseradish flavor in it. On the other hand, the chips(aka fries) were absolutely splendid. They were almost identical to the ones I had in England this summer. Perfectly fried and tasty and authentic. Even better when you add salt and malt vinegar. I really wanted to like The Field more and will be back, but not to get the fish and chips. Perhaps I’ll try the chips with curry sauce next time or the sausage roll, both of which are on special during happy hour. I was impressed that the Happy Hour discounted menu was from 11am(open) to 7pm when I went on a weekday earlier this week.

Back for the second time. Looks like I am making this a yearly event! Had some of the new apps this time and was not disappointed. Still the same great atmosphere and bartenders. Got here on a Thursday evening right before the crowd so was able to get a table at around 6. It’s craft beer week and The Field even had its share of some new brews. Looks like I need to plan my 2015 trip. Faves: lamb sliders
