So this place is boring. Football here = boring. Drinks here= bad. Do NOTCOMEHERE if you want to have a good time. I’ve never had to say that about bar before

Food is garbage, sound is ok, usually empty, they don’t pay their live musicians, I’ve heard of several musicians including myself complaining about being ripped off by them. Their manager is a liar and a crook

Nice small Irish pub in Gas Lamp. Good atmosphere, live music that isn’t loud or annoying. The bartenders are personable and friendly and they’ll actually pay attention when you need a drink. I go to Hennessy’s every time I’m in town.

What a joke! We used to frequent here often when we worked downtown. It’s been a while since we’ve been here but figured not much could change. We stopped in on Sunday night for a quick drink. The bar was basically empty except for a couple than came in right after us. We asked the girl behind the bar for drinks. Her name is Renee. She didn’t know how to make any of them! You really don’t know how to make a southern comfort with lime? My toddler could figure that out. She brought stuff over and said it was on the house as she was experimenting. It was awful. She went and asked the bartender in the speak easy for help. He wasn’t any better. So we got two drinks and a third which we were told was on the house. She charged us $ 16. Wtf? She didn’t even show us a receipt. And we didn’t bother to ask because she was complaining the whole time about how sick she was and how she worked ten hours the day before and only got to go out for a hour. Grow up and be an adult. We went across the street for drinks and they knew how to make stuff. We were told they lost their bartender at Hennesseys and just threw Renee begin the bar. Wow. Professional. We will not be back. I will never waste money for crap drinks there again.

After sitting through almost 3 hours in the cinema watching Boyhood(ok movie, but pure hype), we ventured straight out onto a sea of SD eastie and southie suburbanites on the evening bar /club prowl(that’s the ‘bridge and tunnel crowd’ for you folks from the northeast). On the crawl we went, in search of a few drinks and evening attitude adjustment. After a few vetoes from wifey(too young, too loud, too tacky, too many ciggis, too many xyz), she led us to an Irish pub to indulge in a night close to her roots — well, somewhat(Ireland is close enough to England & Scotland). And, a fine choice HENNESSY’S on the corner of 4th /G was for a night of live music and good old fashioned fun in cozy pub. The live band was perfect and had the crowd foot stomping, clapping and singing along. Unbeknownst to me, Aussie-wifey knew all the lyrics to the sea chanties aka old rough-as-guts sea sailor 1800’s songs, that this band so well knew and performed(I wanna say that ‘convict’ blood runs through the lass’ veins — ditto the lead singer). The bar gang kept the Jack Daniel’s coming and the place was so much fun, we nearly closed the joint down. It was a good find and maybe next time we’ll give the pub grub a go and wash it down with some local or imported stout. Perhaps one too many have come to HENNESSY’S and also sung the sea shanty«Drunken Sailor». «Hoorah. And up he rises.» «Early in the morning» «What shall we do with the drunken sailor?» «Early in the morning» «Put him in the guardroom till he gets sober» «Early in the morning»

My favorite bar in gas lamp. Mood is chill, Everyone is so friendly. The food is amazing. We always go & get 10 $ bottomless mimosas with eggs Benedict on Sunday morning for a great price. I’ve tried pretty much everything on the menu at some point it’s all amazing every time. They’re very consistent with the good service as well. I recommend this place to everyone all ages. Also at night the other side opens up its called the speak easy it’s live jazz. Such good vibes.

Is it possible to give 0 stars? Let me know. I will never go back. I was served a molded burger and it just wasn’t a welcoming environment other than that. If the food you are serving has mold on it you need to find another business to invest in. Restaurants are not for you. Thank goodness for Unilocal.I avoid places like yours when I read stories like this about venues

I feel sorry for the owners here because I’m sure they must have no clue that their bar staff are ruining their business. I was in there for a few moments this past weekend and watched at least 5 people walk out because they weren’t being helped. On top of that the waitress/bartender that helped us was SO-O dumb that I couldn’t even handle it. I tried but seriously I just can’t put up with stupid people… we were there for Toast of DT and we all stood in awe as she took 3 minutes to figure out what the difference between B & F meant on the ticket. Hello Kelly Bundy, that’s B as in Beverage & F as in Food. 5 or 6 people tried to help the poor gal and she still couldn’t get it. Maybe she thought she was being cute or funny, but I wanted to shake some smarts into her it was THAT annoying. I guess I’m getting too old for the ditzy bartender act but with today’s caliber of attractive AND intelligent bar backs serving craft cocktails in great establishments like Polite Provisions, KEX, Ironside and Craft & Commerce, it’s sad that someone like this is giving even a pub-like place a bad rep. Straight up won’t be back… Ever.

This the best place I’ve seen love music in front of my face… I got to sing and all the while I had the best whiskey sour I’ve ever ever had! Thank-you cool establishment and friends made. I will be back.

After catching an Indonesian show at the theater, my friends and I decided to travel across the Globe for some beer, pub food and Irish music. Unilocal has a check in offer for 50% off a beverage, cocktail or house drink. We went when a band from Long Beach performed. The music was good and loud and it was difficult to talk over the music. Even our server had a hard time hearing our orders. My friend had to send me a text message, while sitting across the table from him. My best friend and I met one of the band members during their break. That was really cool. I ordered a bottle of hard cider and The Reuben. My sandwich came with potato chips. It wasn’t like any Reuben I had before. The sauerkraut and spread wasn’t proportioned well with the corned beef which made it a little dry. The corned beef was thickly sliced, more like chunks and hard to bite through and chew. Their pub food wasn’t the best. The people were fun. It took awhile for our server to get our bill to us, due to that Unilocal deal. She had to get approval from the Manager. They have a game room in the back with a Billiards table, Foosball table and Darts. After we ate and tried to talk over the loud music, we broke away from the noise to play pool and darts. We had fun!

Location is great but the food is mediocre. A group of 10 arrived at 9 pm on a thursday and no one else was there for dinner. It appeared they were very understaffed. Of course, food arrived at different times, no coffee refills, half of food was lukewarm. Watier was nice, but seemed overwhelmed and with little training. When I asked what was good on the menu, he said, «everything.» Not true. The gourmet fries are yummy but don’t expect too many. Thumbs down on the ribs and the fish and chips. They were gearing up for an evening band that sounded like it mind be fun. The kitchen and wait staff just need to get their act together.

2 for 1 burgers on Tuesdays. Good service, good burgers, definitely worth the trip on a Tuesday Moo-Cluck-Oink burger($ 11.50): who doesn’t like a burgers with fried egg on top. probably shouldn’t have gotten it med-well(never juicy) but all in all it was enjoyable. the bacon was large and not over cooked. Earth Burger($ 11.50): shut up! I know! But you can’t disparage a meatless burger if you have never actually eaten a meatless burger; and I can now say that I have. For the record, it wasn’t bad. I enjoyed it. I have had worse beef burgers, so…

This place has potential to be cool. I live across the street and went in to grab some chicken tenders to go. The bar tender was a dumb little girl who was completely wasted with a horrible attitude. The band playing sounded great and the bar wasn’t crowded but the bar tender sucked so bad I can’t go back. Besides who wants to get served by people who are wasted? Also try messed up my order of chicken tenders… Not too hard guys.

I ordered online. The delivery time was much sooner that the website said which is why they get two stars. Food arrived dry & unseasoned. I asked for extra napkins, received none.

We stumbled upon this place after a show one night and it was great!!! The service was so friendly and Fergus was hilarious. We got some Irish car bombs and brews, and listened to a great jam session. The music and ambience was perfect for a late Thursday night— It was a great, homey place. Wish I had a place like this nearby! Cheers!

Short and sweet. I’ve been here seemingly hundreds of times throughout the years but it had never been a destination for me. It was always a place that I simply floated into at the end of the night or dipped into for a shot, until recently. Now Hennessey’s has become a destination for me! Why? Well, they are booking some really good music, the drinks are stiff, the staff is friendly and it makes for a fairly affordable evening… just stay away from the Jameson. Thanks for making this a more regular destination for me, Quel Bordel. I absolutely love seeing you guys here!

… not a fan of bad reviews but this is one that needs to be done. FOUR(that’s 1, 2, 3, 4!!) bartenders behind the bar, laughing, hugging, kissing each other on the cheeks and looking at their phones… Minimal customers in the tavern and a few were sitting at the bar. The two of us were standing at the bar for a drink. Out of curiosity we just waited it out to see how long it would take, it took a good 5 – 6 minutes to even get noticed. Yeah, that’s a long time and no I’m not exaggerating. Ridiculous. Mainly the only reason we even stayed is because they have a great little bar area where you can sit overlooking the street and it just looked inviting and we really wanted to sit there and enjoy a drink or two. I used a Unilocal Check-In Deal and I think I pissed the bartender off because she had to get out a calculator to figure out 50% off one drink… took her a couple times walking back and forth(without a smile) to give us our total. Keep in mind, one drink was $ 5 and one was $ 6 and that’s before the 50% off(anyone else need a calculator to figure anything out? Me either) We enjoyed our drinks and people watched but we will NOT be going back to Hennessey’s based on this one experience. There are so many great bars and eateries in Gaslamp that you can’t have a bad experience even just once or people will just move right along to someplace else… and move along we did and will. No Cheers for You… too many other fun and welcoming places all around you, no time to return to your place.

I am rating this with the understanding that I am not a bar person. I like being able to hear what’s going on in the conversations I’m having and I also don’t drink. I will also likely be biased because we came here for an event sponsored by the conference I was at, so uh, everything was free. Translation: open bar and seemingly endless platters of free food: D!!! I’m pretty sure everyone else was most excited about the open bar, but I was pretty much all about the food. Sliders, edamame, chicken satay skewers, salad, cookies, brownie bites, bread pudding… it was glorious. I stuffed my face.(I probably ate the equivalent of 5 dinners while I was there. + let’s not forget the dinner I had beforehand ._. oh gluttony.) My friends seemed pretty happy about the quality of their drinks! You can play pool in the next room and they had live music the night I was there(after our event ended). The servers were really awesome and we had a lot of fun. :]

Came here on a Saturday night(yes same night as the others I’ve posted below). This wouldn’t be my first choice to start off any bar hopping adventures but we did anyway and it threw off my vibe for sure due to the live band playing Irish music. The band weren’t horrible nor was the music, it was just a totally different vibe than what I’d prefer. Service was great though and food was ok.
