We have been going to Sushiya/SushiHana since it opened. The service was ok to good until recently. We used to go weekly but have tapered off because the service was so slow. Went tonight and the service was awful. Half the order never arrived and we asked for the check and they tried to charge us for food that never arrived, Yeech.

I’m writing this one without reading any other reviews on this place. I used to come here all the time in high school(circa 2003 – 2004), but took a hiatus when I lived elsewhere in San Diego. Well, I’m back, bitches, and hitting this place up at least twice a week. I try not to go to any one restaurant more than twice a week. I like to play them against each other. But with such reasonably priced sushi, it’s a great find for PQ. I usually go with nigiri here for the bulk of my meal, because it’s so hard to find it so cheap anywhere else! We also get a couple rolls each time, but we switch it up and have yet to find a failure. My boyfriend and I get pretty good service whenever we go, but I think they are getting to know us(it must be that we order our nigiri with no wasabi). Sometimes it can be a bit slow, because I think they have a team approach and you don’t really always have a designated server for all your needs, but that makes it easier because you can just ask anyone instead of trying to get some eye contact with your one and only hope. Anyway, I recommend this place if you are one of the lucky folks dwelling in PQ, but I don’t know that I’d drive any great distance to fulfill a craving.

Sushihana, previously Sushiya, is the BEST sushi place in PQ(Rancho Peñasquitos). They have 50% off dine-in prices, and their specialty rolls are simply the best! You must try the following rolls: Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll Spanish Roll(my favorite!) The Sunrise roll — not on the menu, but great! The Dragon Roll Hawaiian Poke roll Anyway, my point: Great specialty rolls at this place. Have fun!

Sushi in Penasquitos. Nuf said. They know that you’re not going to drive to HIllcrest, that it’s just for your«Sushi Fix» and you’re not expecting the best. It’s like the Chargers, they play down to their opponent, the opponent in this situation being the customer.

Been coming here for about a year or so whenever I am up north so I am finally writing up a review, haha. Sushiya is one of the cheapest sushi places you can find in town, although it is a bit outta the way(off the 56). Other that that its a def must visit if you are in the area. They have 50% off prices on a huge majority of their sushi/rolls/etc. on many of their items and I have to say that the quality of the fish here is quite good for the price, very firm and doesn’t taste all bland and soggy like many other spots in town. All their staff are very welcoming and very cool to talk to, especially the chefs. They will chat up with you and are very nice! Everything is firm and isn’t loose(the rice) and will not fall apart when you dip it into the soy sauce. Service here is quite fast and efficient and the food comes out tasting awesome!

Now known as Sushihana. I was introduced to this place when I would visit my friends at Cathedral Catholic High School(CCHS), and we would head here to get our fix for sushi. Every time we go, it’s always happy hour –meaning, half-prices on offered sushi(which is practically the ones I want). I would highly recommend their Monkey Balls, Hawaiian Teriyaki Roll, Snowballs and to finish it off, green tea mochi ice cream! If I were you, it’s much better to come in during their lunch time serving, because the dinner portion is just too hectic and cramped for me. Other than that, the service is always fast. The waiting time for your sushi is 10 minutes; 15 minutes the most. The waitresses are very nice and polite, unless you don’t tip well. On another note, I would avoid sitting at the bar. There’s this weird chef, that I would rather not name. Just take my word for it. Quality sushi. Excellent service. The only setback is the creepy guy that works at the bar, but I’m sure you can avoid him.

I believe they are called Sushi Hana now. I’ve been here a couple times always hoping it’d be better than the last. It must be that«50% off» sign in the window and the fact that it’s super close to where I live that makes me want to keep giving it chances. But alas… disappointment EVERYTIME! WHY?! Why must you tease me with that«50% off» sign?! The food is mediocre at best, but often the sushi will leave you with that bubbly feeling in your stomach. And I don’t mean the bubbly happy feeling either. It’s the feeling of demons spawning from within. Maybe a few rolls that aren’t quite«50% off» are tasty but really… is it worth the cramping? Busy or not, the service is ALWAYS slow. And the last couple times I’ve been there the servers seemed pretty rude. Just like the other reviewers have commented, my experience with customer service here is about the same. 50% off… I feel like I’m paying full price for 50% quality so therefore I’m giving this place 20% stars. I hope this review will help me remember to never come back to this place.

Great place for some sushi the shrimp tempura and spider roll is what keeps me coming back to sushiya. Some people have commented negatively about their servers and i can’t disagree with them. When me and a couple of friends came here to have dinner we went through our whole meal with no refill. Sure they were busy but come on now how can u miss us when we asked them if we could get a refill. The server had the nerve to talk to us in tagalog about our weak tip and its like bitch we heard you hahahaha. Really the food here is great though i don’t let that one bad incident get in the way i have always enjoyed coming here and i will continue to come to this location as long as they have the 50% off rolls haha

I didn’t get sick after going there, which is a good sign for a sushi place. Yeah, I’m picky about sushi, and this one is not that bad: the fish is always fresh(or maybe I was lucky), and they have some interesting rolls. I don’t like that they wait till the chef is done with all of your order till they bring it, so you just sit and stare at the empty table top. Don’t expectAnd also — you can wait forever to get your hot tea or water.

Rolls are pretty good — I guess it helps that half the rolls are usually 50% off(I think this is just a sales motive anyway — essentially they charge $ 7-$ 8 per roll instead of the listed $ 14-$ 16 to make you want to buy more). The sushi chefs are cool, but the waitresses are mean! We had a party of 6 people and 2 came a little later than expected, but the waitress was hassling us about how we were saving the table too long for our friends and other people were waiting for seating. We had to wait in line for 10 – 15 minutes too, and more than half of our party was there to be seated, so I don’t know what she’s complaining about. I guess polite customer service is not high on their list. Given the option I would take out to avoid lines and the waitresses, or maybe sit at the sushi bar. Oh yea, they charge 18% for parties of 6 or more! Ridiculous — I guess that’s the only way they can get tips.

I like the 50% off … :-) The food isn’t that good, most of the rolls are like california roll with tops. Hawaiian roll is what I always order. it was good. service can be slow but they are at the least nice. the location is good, when i visit my friend in CMR we usually come here and Yummy Sushi.

First off, they changed their name. My reasons at the end of this review. 50% off selected sushi! My goodness what an offer! So I had cali roll, spicy tuna, philly roll, and shrimp tempura. The Cali rolls were small and just eh in presentation and taste. 8 small pieces. Spicy tuna was good, a tad spicy for me. 8 small pieces. philly-the salmon wasnt that great. 8 pieces. the shrimp tempura is good out of all of them, except they put a special wrapping on the outside of the sushi. 4 big pieces. i noticed a table near mine, the guests had to ask about their food, they looked a bit annoyed maybe because the other table got theirs first? but yeah, the service really isn’t that great. there are other places besides Unilocal talking about bad service. i agree. because the waitress forgot that i had another plate. she even had that paper where you mark how many you want you know? and for some reason they don’t know how to CHECKOFF what already came out… so when she came over she was asking if waiting for more food… its so simple to check off. so yeah, mostly i highly believed they changed their name to get off the –bad service rap. but its still runned by the same people, so don’t let that fool you.

I liked this place when I first moved here… until I got severe food poisoning from the salmon dinner I had ordered. I ended up in the emergency room and was told to contact the restaurant to let them know and when I did –they blew me off. My fiancé called and they spoke Korean to him. Guess what — he is KOREAN! He could understand what they were saying and it wasnt polite. If you want great sushi without getting so sick you vomit a lung up — go to Yummy Sushi on Carmel Mountain — They are way better and so polite.

Because of their half-off most rolls — my boyfriend and I are regulars. Although pretty packed, we usually get seated within 15 mins on a Friday night. Plus, they’ll always have a big game on the TV while we wait, so that keeps him hushed. My fave rolls are spider and caterpillar, typie, huh? I’m picky with the eel, too. Everytime I’ve ordered the caterpillar, though, it’s been nothing short of fresh. They have a lot of specialty rolls like the PQ(for you locals): interesting but not addictive. I’m no beer drinker, but I always get a bottle or two of Asahi, a reliable refreshment I picked up from two years living on Okinawa. If you sit at the sushi bar, sit in front of Jose and don’t be shady with the tip: he deserves it. I also order the bulgogi & rice, which is a bit overcooked, but a good serving and tasty. The missing star is due to the slightly lethargic and indifferent wait staff. You’ll have to flag them down every now and then, but if they forget, you’ll get a comp specialty roll. We had the snowball — mmm, yumm!

This place is nearby and is great to satisfy my sushi fix. The 50% off deal that they offer makes it that much better. The sushi rolls are good and the prices are affordable. Dinner for my wife and I, including miso, house salad, 2 – 3 rolls, large Asahi, always comes out to about $ 30 including tip. Service can be slow, but if you sit at the bar it’s not that bad. It looks like they’ve changed their name to Sushihana. It’s the same people working though, and the sushi is the same.

I love Sushiya. Although it is busy atmosphere, the wait is always worth it, especially if I want my favorite Volcano Roll. I recommend making reservations before hand if you don’t want to wait for a table. You also have the option of sitting at the sushi bar; which is always fun. Select items on the menu are always 50% off. Sushiya is now Sushihana, and it continues to please me.

Sushiya is okay, just okay. They have a 50% off rolls sign on the window which happens to always be there. They have a lot of different rolls which I like. The rolls are small. The actual taste is okay. I mean this place is not great but then again its not that expensive.

When I want sushi, I go to Sushiya. On a busy night(which I’ve seen on Thursdays, Fridays, and weekends), it has taken up to 45 minutes for my party to be seated. On a laid-back night, you’ll be seated immediately. The spicy tuna always makes me sweat — I LOVEIT. I literally sweat. And my nose runs. My other favorite? The Snowball, which also makes my nose run. Funtimez with sushi in a stripmall!

Good sushi joint with a nice selection of rolls. The en feugo roll can light you a new one if you are not careful. Reasonably priced and can be crowded… not a huge place. Only knock I would give is that the service can be slow.
