Really salty for me. The fish is not very fresh but the price is really really really friendly!!! I prefer Wonderful Sushi to Sushi Hana. I ordered a ell roll, a crunchy roll, a caterpillar roll and a rainbow roll. And a green tea Michu ice cream. And all of them only cost me 31 bucks after tax !!! Most of them are 50% off and to-go’s are 40% off!!! Though is not that tasty, the price makes up a lot. Green tea mochi ice cream最高! いただきます

The food is a little on the pricy side. Typically we receive decent service but unfortunately today was the last day we will go to this restaurant. I find it very annoying how my bf and I bought $ 30 worth of food and they had the audacity to charge us for spicy mayo. That potential $.50 cost them two weekly customers.

I like the basics and every time they get it right. The portions are generous. The service for me has always been good and everyone has always been kind and seem glad that your there. Every time I visit its for lunch so I’m not sure if the dinner service is different but I enjoy the food and the prices seem fair. Hope you enjoy it as well!

It’s a great place for lunch Time, and the rolls are reasonable priced and the staff is always nice too.

The food is pretty good, the fish is nice but overall it’s too pricy for the terrible service. The wait staff is quite rude and I’ve definitely had better at other sushi restaurants. If I had to share anything about this place it’s that it’s not for sit down but take out. If you don’t mind blunt and unfriendly wait staff then this place would be fine for you. If you do then go somewhere else cause the foods not that good.

My husband and I came from DC where there is a plethora of outstanding sushi. We’d been having a hard time finding a place in SD that matched quality with variety. Many places have great quality ingredients, but only a few different roles and/or are mostly just variations of a California role(boring). Little did we know that in our own backyard we’d find the best in San Diego! Sushi Hana has excellent quality of ingredients and outstanding variety! Every time we go we pick a few of our favorites and try something new as well. Their creative menu culminates to amazing flavor combinations that your taste buds will delight in! They also have all the classic sushi roles you crave. Highly recommend!

We go all the time. We love it. We lived in the Bay Area and got used to amazing Japanese restaurants there. It’s not quite to that level but it’s still great. My husband lived in Japan for years and we enjoy the food here a lot. We come often.

I love that this place has a section on their menu that is always 50% off. This means I can get 2 rolls(1 small, 1 medium-sized) for the price of one somewhere else. The hand rolls are great! I’m not a good sushi snob so I can’t tell you if this sushi is ‘high quality’ or ‘fresh’, but I can tell you it tastes dang good :). Nice cute place to go out with friends; it’s a little small so maybe not fancy enough to take out-of-town visitors. Friendly service.

The family and I were in search of a restaurant to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary in the North County. The wifey and I are frugal, so we wanted a nice place, but not too pricey. Sushi Hana met this criteria, but Unilocalers got their 3.5 star rating right. Unilocal doesn’t allow me to give half stars, so please don’t let my 3 stars discourage you. Sushi Hana is worth a try. What lured us to Sushi Hana was their 50% off sushi menu. Who can resist 50% off sushi prices? Sushi Hana has a select menu that warrants the 50% discount. Be careful to understand what items qualify for the discount. I made the mistake of ordering outside of the discounted items, which caused my wallet to feel the pain. Besides discounted sushi, there are also discounted appetizers. The décor throughout was typical sushi restaurant accoutrements, with nothing that stood out. The restaurant was clean and there was plenty of seating. One complaint that attributed to my 3.5 star rating was them having just one waitress during early dinner time. I actually felt sorry for her as she tried to eat dinner while there were a good amount of tables she had to wait on. Although it was the 50% off sushi that got us in the door, our check still was more expensive than what I thought it was going to be. We kind of overindulged because of the false security of the 50% off menu. Don’t be overzealous like us. Despite the deceiving 50% off menu and only one waitress, Sushi Hana does have yummy and tasty sushi. A must order is the Snow Ball sushi. The wifey and I shared, but I could have eaten that all by myself. The sushi pieces were a good size, they were creamy, and they were the best thing I ate. Sushi Hana’s saving grace was a snow ball. As long as you remember not to get too carried with their 50% off menu, there is more than one waitress, and you order the Snow Ball, you’ll have a good experience at Sushi Hana. To celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary, I wish it had been perfect. But perfect, in other words 5 stars, might be costly. So for this frugal dude, I’m okay with my 3.5 star Sushi Hana.

So I decided to be spontaneous the day prior and go out to have dinner with myself as I do I for lunch all the time. First mistake walking in, cash. The minimum to spend if you have a credit card is $ 10. I should have calculated that before walking in — but silly me, didn’t bring any cash. So all those who are small eaters — bring cash! I decided I was feeling adventurous so dove in for two rolls. My default is the crunchy spicy tuna. Presentation was nice — looked pretty much the same as any other crunchy spicy tuna. Did not have any problems demolishing it as I was hungry — and did not taste bad. So giving it a A-OK. Was not feeling the scallop dynamite though. I had bad scallop dynamite before — back in LA when I was training. This was okay — but I preferred Wonderful Sushi’s version. Eating it, the topping was hot, but the sushi was also a bit hot. It could have been also the mixture of after taste with the crunchy spicy tuna that did not mix well. But hey, just giving my honest opinion. Price for both came out to $ 21 — which was kind of pricey in my opinion. There was $ 7.50 deducted as they had a 50% deal for selected sushi going on. Service was decent, felt like I was a bit rushed in ordering as I was trying to decide what to get and the waitresses kept coming over to ask if I was ready. Atmosphere was casual, looks good for groups. I might come back some time but not any time soon. And if I do, I would be more prepared to come with a dinner mate than by myself.

Good! Portions are good. Price is good. There isn’t anything overly special but the atmosphere is casual and the food is good. We only go to a few Sushi spots in San Diego and this one has made the list.

Date of visit: 9÷20÷2015 Cam and I were trying to decide on where to meet Pat for dinner, so we decided on Sushi Hana since it’s in the PQ area and we would have to drive too far. I’ve also heard great reviews on this place, so it made sense to give it a try. The shopping plaza that this restaurant is in has a couple of weird spots, but opens up towards the middle. If you want hassle free parking, just park there instead of the weird diagonal spaced islands. We arrived around 6:30pm on a Wednesday evening and were immediately seated. I was a little surprised that there weren’t more people, but the restaurant started filling up around 7:30pm. I guess dinner time for most people is a little later? Hot Green Tea. It was hot and it was tea — good enough for me. Miso Soup. The soup tasted like the packets of dehydrated miso soup you can get at the store. I don’t mind this, but if I recall correctly, there was no real tofu. Snowball Roll. This was a deep fried roll that Pat absolutely loves. He said that he gets it every time he goes to Sushi Hana. I though it was pretty good, although I was missing the fresh wasabi from Kula. Rainbow Roll. I liked the salmon, shrimp, and avocado portions of this roll. The imitation crab was not too overwhelming. Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll. I wasn’t too big of a fan of this roll. Since I’m just getting into sushi, I have not quite developed a liking for tuna. Maybe I’ll like it more in the future. Philly Roll. Cam really enjoyed this roll, but if you put cream cheese in anything, he’ll like it. It definitely looked a lot better than other philly rolls Cam’s ordered in the past. Avocado Nigiri. The avocado was expertly cut and presented. It tasted extremely fresh, although a little weird without any fish. I probably wouldn’t get this again. Salmon Nigiri. The massive amount of salmon terrified me, so I skipped these pieces as well, but the fish looked really fresh. The portion was extremely generous as well. Overall, Sushi Hana is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. Pat claims that it’s the best sushi place in PQ, but if you’re looking at an overall perspective, it only has to compete against Wonderful Sushi.

Really delicious sushi!!! Friend and I went a little crazy with the ordering as some of them were half off. I can hardly remember what we got but the Rainbow roll was delicious!!! It came out relatively quickly and the servers were very attentive. Not at all pushy but always at the right time. The fish was so fresh and the presentation was amazing. I even took some home to hubby because the pieces were so large and filling. We devoured those later that night. If it wasn’t so far away, it would be my new jam. I’ll def go back and try different rolls. All of them were good!

I have such fond memories of this place ! Used to come here ALL the time when I lived in the area. Great place to get solid sushi for a reasonable price for those that live near Rancho Penasquitos. Their rolls are pretty much 50 percent off all the time I don’t think i’ve ever been there where that was not the case. You order off a strip of paper and hand it to the waitress and they bring your rolls out. Pretty easy process. This was the first time I had a Crunchy Roll EVER and it’s been a slippery slope ever since.

This used to be a decent and reliable spot for sushi. It was quick and the sushi was good enough. But tonight’s visit is the tipping point for us to look for another sushi spot close to the house. On ordering our rolls, I had to correct the waiter on which rolls we wanted. He kept circling the adjacent rolls. Then our partial order came about 20 minutes later and then one roll came after another 15 min and our last roll came after 10 min later. The rolls were breaking apart and weren’t put together completely. They also weren’t cut all the way so when you pick one up, it pulls the other roll and breaks apart. The entire time we’ve been here, not one staff has come up to us to ask how we are doing or how the food was. We, as well as the other table, have had to get up several times to flag someone down to ask for refills on beverages and condiments. I will not be back and will no longer recommend this place to my family and friends. It is unfortunate to see a business in our community decline in service and quality but I will be giving someone else my business.

I came here for lunch with my boyfriend because we were in the area waiting for some t shirt designs to finish up. It’s basically your typically sushi joint. Food was okay, nothing spectacular, although they did have good lunch bento box specials and 50% off certain sushi rolls. We each got the lunch special, chicken and salmon bento box. The bento boxes came with chicken or salmon, mixed tempura, miso soup, salad, rice, and california roll. Pretty good variety in a bento box for $ 9. It was a nice lunch but probably too far to come back next time.

Wonderful customer service & good sushi for a decent price! I came here for dinner with my boyfriend & the staff were a joy! Very friendly, attentive, & talkative. We ordered: Miso Soup — Luke warm but delicious. Playboy Roll — Delish! The roll was torched & had a good blend of seafood. However, although a pro, the roll was huge width wise & it was difficult to fit a piece in my mouth without it falling apart. Spicy Salmon Belly Roll — On sale for only $ 4! What a deal! I was already full but I was contemplating on ordering another one of these rolls because it was so fresh & tasty! Hamachi Kama — A little bland & oily.

I’ve been here for lunch and their lunch bentos are okay. Then I remember really liking the sushi here… but I haven’t been here for like 2 years. I ordered a rainbow roll and crunchy roll to go and it was the worst sushi I’ve had in a long time. I eat sushi a few times a week, and I’m not typically picky when it comes to sushi cause I’ll eat anything. Just because I love sushi lol. I’ll occasionally get grocery store sushi when I’m looking for something late night or if I’m lazy. I got rainbow rolls at Wonderful Sushi, Sushi Hana, and at Vons. Sushi Hana was the worst by far. Even the Vons rainbow roll was of better quality. I will probably never come here again just based on the quality of their sushi, and Wonderful Sushi is just down the road. Then Vons is always an option haha. This place used to be good, and now it’s not.

5 stars for their food but 1 star for their service. Only one word can describe my experience at Sushi Hana– neglected. We had a table of 5 and we were only given two menus. After a few minutes my friend had to get up from the table and get more menus for us. When we were ready to order food, our server passed us 5 times and the whole table actually took turns trying to get her attention, but she ignored us each and every time. We also got a ridiculous reaction from her when we finally got her attention. Dealing with her had us ordering two rounds of sake bombs which only cost $ 1.50 each. Customers at a restaurant should NEVER have to beg for attention and that’s exactly how I felt. Cheers! We ordered the crispy calamari for an appetizer and it closely resembled onion rings. The sauce was rich in flavor and the breading was crisp to perfection. Honestly one of the best calamari appetizers I’ve had. For the sushi, we ordered the rainbow roll, lobster roll, and the snowball roll. I am very picky with raw fish, but the raw fish that topped the rainbow roll was pleasant. The snowball roll was my favorite. It contained soft shell crab and rice with a spicy sauce somewhat drenching it(the sauce tasted like a mix between wasabi and spicy mayo). A really unique match of flavors. It was refreshing to try a new sushi that I actually liked. My least favorite was the lobster roll. I’ve realized that I like lobster on it’s own or in a lobster roll. Rice overpowers the lobster, cutting the flavor. But overall the food portion of my experience at sushi Hana was great! I do plan on coming here again and hopefully I get a new server. This place inspired me to try new sushis and that’s why i didn’t rank it 2 stars.

$ 15/roll for mediocre sushi wouldn’t hurt so much if everything else was on point, which in the case of Sushi Hana, nothing was. It was probably one of the worst sushi experiences I’ve had in the entire county of SD. Our first dish(beef yakisoba-just ok) came out and then it was a half hour wait before the next item arrived. The item that arrived next was a roll we had ordered as a to-go item. Curious as to why the to-go item came out before most of our dine-in items arrived, we asked the waitress for(1) the status of the rest of our order and(2) why on earth they would bring out the to-go order so early. First, she seemed confused about where the rest of our order was and said she thought we were just waiting on the to-go item. THEN when she figured out we were actually waiting for our entire meal, proceeded to tell us that the to-go order os best eaten at room temperature anyways so it didn’t matter how early it comes out as it can«keep for hours.» Without an apology, she walks off to the sushi bar and we see her hand them our order(clearly they forgot to put in the order earlier). The rolls then came out haphazardly put together, by that time, the yakisoba was no longer hot(unless she could probably argue that it too was better at room temp), our to-go order had been sitting there, and the rice on the rolls were hard and the overall quality of fish was below average. The bill comes out and we realize for the same price, one could go to a dozen other places for better quality and much better service.
