Other than lying about the quality of the apartment furnishings and how environmentally green the apartment complex is, the change over from Canyon Hills Apartments to Sofi Canyon Hills has been unremarkable until our heater broke on 12÷22÷15. We put in a maintenance request that night about smelling a gas leak and having to turn off the gas. The maintenance guy came by the next morning, tried to fix it, determined that a part was needed, and that it would be fixed by 2pm. We were heading out of town so this was acceptable. When we came back on 12÷26÷15, it was freezing in the apartment. I tried to turn on the heater, but to no avail. Luckily I was able to flag down the maintenance guy working next door so he could come look. After working at it for 30 minutes he determined that the part they installed on the 23rd was defective and that his boss was going to come by on Monday, the 28th to fix it. This wouldn’t work for us as it was supposed to be in the 40s that night and we have a newborn. So I called the office to see what they could do(bring in an expert, pay for a hotel, whatever) and he basically said that the main guy would be there on Monday and there was nothing he could do. After more prodding, he said he would look for space heaters and call me back in 20 minutes. After 3 hours I called him back and it was clear he hadn’t looked yet. He said he would follow up and call me back immediately. He called back in about an hour and said that they were putting a large space heater in our apartment. When we got home, a tiny heater was waiting for us. After letting it run for 1.5 hours in our room alone with the door closed, the temperature rose from 59 to 60 degrees(we have a baby monitor that tells us the temp, that’s how we know). Needless to say, a newborn can’t sleep in 60 degrees, so we packed up and went to a hotel. While I realize this was over Christmas, 3 business days in 40 degree temps should be enough to fix the issue.
