This is such an adorable place to go with friends. We sit at the Sushi bar and watch the activity behind the sushi bar. As they eat their sushi, I eat my sushi chicken(as we call it) then stroll along the beach boardwalk to watch the sunset — what a nice location for a beautiful sight.

A friend and I were hoping to grab a quick sushi roll or two after a long walk on the beach. Not only did the server take more than five minutes to greet us(the restaurant was not that busy), we were served our sushi before we were offered drinks. The sushi roll was wrong when it was put on the table. I had to ask the man behind the sushi bar to fix my order. When the bill came, I was astounded to see that I was charged five dollars for soda water. I was not told I would be charged for soda water, nor have I ever been charged for soda water in my many years as a San Diego native and restaurant goer. My friend and I asked the waitress, who it took another seven minutes to track down, and she said there was nothing that she could do about it because anything that comes out of the soda fountain is charged. The food was not that good, the service was slow, and the customer service was even worse. Don’t go here.

Enjoyed the food and liked the service but way too slow for an expensive place. Meal took 4 hours. Need to organize the kitchen. Old school place and I liked the New York strip and the sushi was tasty.

I avoided the sushi here at Saska’s for years because of the early negative reviews, I eat sushi weekly and consider myself pretty well versed so why waste it on a sub-par place?. The steakhouse is great and I have visited there many o’time. But today by mere circumstance, I decided to give the sushi a try. I made a mistake avoiding it all these years. Keep in mind I have been to many of the great places in SD(OTA, HARNEYETC) The place is cozy, much like the steakhouse. Nothing fancy at all, a typical MB sea shanty experience. Saska’s itself gives off a retro aura which I really like. Warm, and inviting, seems like scarface or Sam Rothstein could potentially walk in at any second. I ordered 2 spicy scallop hand rolls, one sashimi platter of the appetizer list and 2 orders of oysters. There was one waitress and she was all over the place. The speed in which I received my hand rolls was staggering, they were very good. Sashimi came next, over a bed of cabbage and some other greeneries. The fish was COLD, why all sushi places can’t do this I will never understand?!. Sushi should be COLD. It was a perfect temperature for consumption. The cuts were decent and I was given a decent amount for the 15.00 asking price. This included salmon, tuna, yellowtail and I believe sea bass(the sea bass was slightly charred on the outside which I normally don’t like but was delicious). He retrieved the massive oysters from the back. They were cold and awesome… So ya, walked away paying 26.00 and feeling satisfied and stupid for not giving this convenient sushi place a fair shake. Seems like a decent place to get get a buzz on too.

My husband and I went here for the first time last weekend. We had a decent dinner and the sushi was very reasonable, especially during the Friday, Saturday and Sunday night specials. I’d recommend the Mission Beach roll — the perfect amount of flavor and spice. When our bill came, we were amazed at how inexpensive it was. However, we failed to realize that our waitor did not bring back our credit card. Realizing this the next morning, I called the restaurant. Initially they couldn’t find it but the person helping me took my number to call back once he talked to the waitor. I got a call back and somehow the waitor had it in a different spot. When we came back the next day, and after 20 minutes of searching, the credit card had disappeared again. Eventually later that evening, they called back late that evening and it was found. We are disappointed in their handling of this situation and made us wonder about the staff’s intentions. We enjoyed our visit while there but after this experience it is unlikely we would be back.

Sushi tasted not bad. Nice specialty sushi’s. Price is pretty good. Service was slow when we were there and they were not the most helpful. All in all it was pretty good. We didn’t order beer but the table next to us ordered two jugs and the head of the beer was half the size of the jug. We were very surprise why no one complained. Perhaps it’s supposed to be like that for their«white» beer? Not sure. Sushi was good though. Located just steps away from the beach. Closed to other restaurants and convenient store.

I live within walking distance to Saska’s and finally had a chance to try it… and I will not be going back. The rolls were falling apart before I even took them off the plate. It looked as though the person who made them could care less about what they were doing. Not to mention the rolls were $ 10 each!!! There are much better options for sushi in town and they charge way less.

My son and I had filet Mignon and it was delicious. It comes with a soup or salad and a side(mashed potato, fries, veggies etc). We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Note — on a Sat night you need reservations for the dining room. We didn’t have a reservation and the hostess was gracious enough to find us a table in the sushi part of the restaurant. Also, there’s a parking lot down the street and you don’t have to pay provided you tell the valet guy your parking spot number. Update — gotta deduct a star because the bathrooms were both disgusting. The toilets and urinals were backed up. Ugh :-(

Great deals here Fri night and weekends $ 3 philly rolls and a few others that are excellent for the price, the eel and avocado is a nice touch. Overall excellent sushi for the price. Location is amazing, great people watching. Clean atmosphere. Great service, water refills just kept coming. Will absolutely be coming back soon!

Not the edgiest sushi ever, but Karson and Jaun more than made up for it. Bay scallop nigiri was brilliant. Sushi pizza was good, but a bit gloppy. Rainbow roll rocked!

Walking distance from our cute little rental but not terribly impressed. Walked in to an empty place which i thought would mean faster service… not so much. Music kept stopping and starting. Is musical chairs part of tonights entertainment? A pitcher of Kirin Light and lg sake for $ 10?!! Super Cool… but my plastic cup stinks like fish and dishwater. Chicken yakitori was just eh… I couldve made it better at home! Limited selection of sushi. The rolls i did pick made me miss sushi back home(Phoenix, AZ). Probably wouldnt ever come back but YOLO right?!

Great weekend sushi roll specials(half price) and sake specials. Atmosphere needs some updating, but if you’re looking for a place to eat fish and get drunk in Mission Beach, look no further. Will return, will be buzzed.

We came here on a Wednesday night while they had a half off sushi rolls special when you buy a drink and we were quite pleased with both the sushi rolls that we received as well as the service, which seemed pretty attentive. Even at the full prices, this place is still cheaper than Surfside Sushi up the street so we would recommend it. Certainly not the best sushi we have ever had, but also far from the worst. Some of the rolls they have were a bit unique and all were tasty.

I don’t know why it took me forever to review this place… but OMG… went to San Diego for a trip and came to this place based on reviews in the magazine in our hotel. The place was PACKED and we could only sit at the Sushi bar, no problem cause that’s all we wanted. Every roll we got was amazing, but the thing that stood out the most was the Sushi Pizza, its a Yellowtail and Crab crisply baked over Avocado and Crab Roll, and its served with Ecstasy Sauce. It was full of flavor and everything was incredibly fresh. We were here a while ago, and I wonder if it has got worse since then, totally worries me :(

I am torn about how to review this place so I should start by clarifying — this is not a 3 star sushi place in comparison to all sushi places. At best, it would qualify as 2 stars against the rest of the world. It is a 3 star sushi place within walking distance of all the condos on Mission Beach. The servers were awesome and the drink deal was killer — $ 10 for a pitcher of beer and tall hot sake. As for the sushi… not all that great. Fish was hit or miss and the cuts of sashimi were ametuer at best. The rolls were ok, but as you can see in the pics from other reviews, they are put together sloppy. It is cool that you can order off their co-lo restaurants so steak or mac n cheese for the kids.

When you find a delicious sushi place where most rolls are between $ 8 – 9, it’s hard to stay away. When the same place has ALL their rolls for ½ price on Mondays and Wednesdays, we call that shit bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S. Saska’s offers a wide variety of rolls, nigiri, sashimi, salads, plates, combos. One of the favorites was the Red Roll, topped with seared ahi and delicious spicy mayo. Went for my first time last week, and already going again tomorrow. I’ll see you there!

It was our first night in SD, and we were roaming Mission Blvd. for a place to grab dinner and some drinks. We saw that Saska had happy hour specials and went in to check it out. HH was already over, but we decided to stay for dinner anyway. The menu consisted of the typical Japanese food. We ordered a bunch of rolls and appetizers to share. ~Hamachi Kama( ) ~Ahi Poke( ) ~Crunch Roll( ) ~Seafood Salad( ) ~Special Albacore Roll( ) ~San Diego Roll( ) The hamachi kama and Ahi poke were good. The portions were good and the food was tasty. While we were eating, we had 3 large bottles of Sopporo and about 5 bottles of sake. So the rest of the meal ends up being a little fuzzy. I do remember thinking the San Diego Roll was pretty good… the salsa on top gave it an interesting flavor. Make sure you ask for Heather… she was our awesome waitress! She was funny and friendly, and she helped us find some places to party it up at night. We even met up with her later in PB and had a few drinks. Great little spot to grab some sushi and drinks. And we found out later that it was literally 30 seconds away from our condo. Got to stumble home drunk and then get ready to party it up some more!
