I have been past Saska’s 100+ times in my 35 years living & playing in San Diego especially Mission Beach area never stopping until this evening! What a GREAT steak house! We will be back to try many of the other items on the menu! Vince our waiter ended up being called«my friend» by my husband a compliment to Vince!

Stay far away from this place. Ordered lobster tail that came out cold. In addition to that the waitress messed up the order(which is understandable), but the service was bad as well and lobster tail did not taste fresh. my girlfriends sushi was not good and fell apart. I have never given a bad review but this one certainly deserves it

Delicious! This place never disappoints. Ask for Brenda. She is always smiling and very attentive. Billy is the best bartender in town.

I went here on January 7th, 2016. I thought it was a lovely evening. The steak was prime. I like medium rare to rare and they cooked the steak exactly as I like. Everything else that came with it was good too. I followed the recommendations of our server and ordered a bottle of Mexican wine I’ve never heard of from Guadalupe Valley and it was surprisingly good for an affordable price. Ambiance was good too. Service was excellent. I have to say that I don’t understand why people are complaining about the change in ownership. It easily beats lots of other restaurants for quality of steak.

My wife and I had dinner here. When we walked in it looked like a typical local bar. Nothing fancy. We were seated in the back which was equally as plain. The staff seemed happy and attentive. We order the tuna and the ciopinno. My wife says the tuna was better than other places. It came with a pile of wasabi mashed potatoes. My dish was average at best. The seafood in the dish was small. The broth didn’t have much flavor to it and the potion wasn’t anything to brag about for the price we were paying. Over all it was an ok experience. The staff were great however the food was just average and a little over priced.

Just went there since the changeover. Word of advice to the new owners who want to put their stamp on this place. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Same solid staff is still there, but it seemed there were a lot more help than needed to be there. Not as laid back anymore. They’re high strung. Must be the new corporate culture. On to the food. Not a fan of the Squaw bread or the new salad. Garlic bread is still available but only if requested. Prime rib was meh. If the owners are reading this review, PLEASE bring back the old Saskas!

Well, if you’ve been going to Saskas for years, be ready to be disappointed with the changes the new owner has made to all of the dishes. We got prime rib and the Oscar last night and were really disappointed. The King Filet is now the Oscar with hollandaise and crab rather than bernaise and crab and does not taste good. The prime rib was cooked like a steak rather than being slow roasted. The bread is different and barely toasted. The biggest disappointment is NOMORECRABCHOWDER. They have normal clam chowder now. There is no other place in San Diego that I know of that had that. It was something that set Saskas apart from any other steakhouse. I understand raising prices if needed to cover cost of purchasing business and to make upgrades, but don’t raise prices and completely change way the dishes were prepared. This a landmark in SD, not another ‘Patio’ restaurant and should be looked at as a trophy asset. You keep the same recipes and menu if you’re going to keep the name. My family has been going here since the beginning 64 years ago and you have now lost a long time customer.

Horrible bait and switch– reserved in the restaurant and was seated in the freezing cold sushi bar next door. Steaks arrived cold and uneatable. Sad to see the changes in this sd Classic restaurant

Saska’s will never be the same with the new ownership. For the last 7 years, this place was where my boyfriend and I celebrated special occasions with our family and friends. The new owner said that she would not change anything, but everything is different now; the food is different/overpriced and worst of all the service sucks. I am not surprised by all the negative reviews I read from other locals who have been going here for years. I wouldn’t doubt if this place goes out of business in the next year or two. I finally accepted this place will never be the same and we will have to find a new local spot we love as much as the old Saska’s :-( It’s going to be a tough search but we vowed never to return to «Pseudo Saska’s» again. R.I.P. Saska’s

Saska’s was one of our favorite places for dinner. Last time my husband and I were there for dinner I had the Tournedos of Beef and my husband had the Bleu Fillet, those are our favorite dishes. Well since the change of ownership those two items are no longer on the menu plus many other changes. They also now charge extra for soup and salad and you have to ask for a basket of bread. We were hoping that with the change of ownership the restaurant would stay the same but it hasn’t. It’s just not the same with the Saska family gone, especially Tommy. He was the heart and soul of the place. We won’t be going back. It might be called Saska’s but it’s not Saska’s at all.

So I don’t understand the reviews. I have lived in PB14 years and it’s my first time here. On a Sat night in Dec, it’s an early dinner so not packed. I was recommended a Cab/Merlot blend from Guadalupe Mexico. It was a surprise tasting. I ordered The Oscar filet mignon. It was fantastic! The service was way beyond what I would of expected in Mission Beach. The service staff was also top notch.

As a family of 5 we’ve been frequent guests at Saskas for more than 10 years. We were under the impression nothing was going to change with the new ownership. We ate there tonight and so many things were different I can’t list them. This wasn’t Saskas, might as well change the name!!!

I’ve been going to Saska’s for years… and I just love the place. However, my first visit since Saska’s was taken over by new ownership was somewhat of a disappointment. While the atmosphere is the same, and the service fantastic, I couldn’t help but be disappointed by the new menu. Not only did they take the 2 best meals off(Tournedos of Beef, and the Bleu Filet), but they also removed the spicy cheese sticks, removed the complimentary garlic bread, and started charging extra for soup/salad with the dinner entrees. In addition, what used to be a fairly«family» presentation of the food, has turned into a more contemporary 2k15 presentation… more presentation than substance. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll be frequenting the place as much as I used to…

We went here for the first time since the new owners took over. They ruined my favorite place. The simplest things that Saskas used to offer that I loved are all changed and for the worse. The food that was once unique and wonderful is now mainstream and mediocre. I’m honestly so sad because I’ve loved it there for a long time and now I will never go again.

This didn’t start out so great. Went here because I saw the extensive menu on Unilocal to find out that they just got new owners and a new menu 10 days ago. Strike 1. Strike 2, Had the sesame crusted tuna which was great but added a lobster tail for $ 33 and it was spongy and rubbery and the hot butter was anything but hot. Strike 3, I complained about the over-priced, under cooked lobster. They offered us a free dessert, while I was stuffed from the appetizer and meal, I opted for the carrot cake to go. I get a midnight craving for my cake, go to the fridge, low and behold, they screwed that up too. Cheesecake instead, I despise cheesecake. Nothing was right there. Too bad, it was a nice, quaint place.

This place is lucky the server and the food was really good because we almost left before we even ordered. If you can get past the rude women host, this place is well worth having! If you go on a Saturday, make sure to make a reservation! I had the steak and scallops for $ 22, which was expected and worth it! There is a sushi and Japanese menu and a steak and seafood menu, the sushi and Japanese menu is much cheaper! It’s nice having both options you just have to ask for it!

We went here for our«fancy» meal and it was fancy, but not overly pricey, nor overly memorable. The seating is tight, so expect to hear another conversation at the table next to you and make sure you have a reservation on the weekend. The steak was a bit fatty. served with crab…$ 28 The King Crab legs($ 40) were good, but the legs were not steamed/hot enough. Still some good crab meat, but on the combo plate you got almost as many legs as the full crab plate. Roquefort — was excited for the top of the line blue cheese, but dressing was watery and had no chunks. Soup is a better choice. Garlic Toast — plentiful and tasty Rice/Garlic Mashed — nothing special The top deck has a partial view, but it seems like that deck is not a great place to eat either as you can see the people who live there cooking outside in various forms of dress. On the weekend, you must valet and its 3 bucks per car. The only other issue was the check-in area is hard to find if you enter the wrong building first.

This is the perfect place for someone to buy and fix up. It’s like this place hasn’t made any updates(to the food or restaurant) since the 90s. Coming from Chicago I’m a sucker for a rooftop, but we wound up only getting 1 drink here while waiting for reservations to eat across the street. Anyone who is in to flipped restaurants please come help this place out.
