When i first saw Pocket Park i was so happy to see the space made available for so many possibilities. That was 2014. Most recently I’ve seen that the space was underutilized possibly and reverted back to an ugly parking lot with all the pallets removed and the gate shut. What happened! I’m sad that more people didn’t make use of this space.

I remember reading about this space being setup for resident to have a semi open space in downtown. It sounded like a great idea… but…this place does not look appealing in the least. Not really sure who would want to hang out here. I guess I may have missed the grand opening, and quite possibly its heyday. Cool idea though

Amazing initiative in East Village! Thanks to a Facebook invitation I got to know about the opening of a Pocket Park in San Diego some weeks ago, but it wasn’t until yesterday when I wanted to check out what is this ‘urban prototyping’ movement about that I stopped by. A pocket park is somehow an improvised park in some vacant lots, normally in urban areas where is not easy to find greenery of places to just seat, rest or play in public. They are part of urban regeneration plans. Yesterday I could see how the people behind FabLab together with other institutions showed to the general public who might not even be aware of the latest technologies what is cooking in the 3D printer world, for example. I was very impressed to see so many young talented engineers, designers and general artists doing some demos. On top of that, there was music(a trio of very young guys entertaining the curious attendants) and free food offered by Valentinas Mexican. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon doing some urban exploration. Loved this concept. Please open more soon!
