I am currently visiting San Diego for the weekend and decided to come here for breakfast. I am beyond disappointed ! I ordered the biscuit special with grilled chicken instead of sausage and every component of this meal tasted HORRIBLE. Everything tasted frozen and bland I could not believe it. The potatoes the eggs the chicken all had a really bad after taste as if they were all frozen in an unclean freezer that needs filtering. 12 $ down the drain NEVERAGAIN

I’ve been here a while back and I remember the food was kind of good, I decided to give it another try the other day and apparently this place is now runned by weird, elderly people with absolutely no taste buds what so ever… lmao! I ordered a spinach omelette and potatoes with a side of toast. My eggs came back with no flavor at all, no seasoning, nothing! potatoes were soggy and they added some weird powder spice? The toast was drenched in butter… FYI: Be prepared to wait 10+ min for the check because the lady at the front apparently likes to sit at a table with her group of friends and forgets that you’re there. NEVERAGAIN.

I absolutely LOVE this place. Every time I go back home to see my mom, we eat here and have never been disappointed. I’m a creature of habit so I usually get the Eggs Benedict, and it’s phenomenal. It’s always piping hot, the potatoes are made to perfection and the Hollondaise Sauce is out of this world. I top it off with a real, properly made latte. My morning is made. Thinking about eating here? Do it! It’s affordable and delicious to the very last bite.

This restaurant has a lot to learn about producing good food and delivering good service. My breakfast, although filling was rather tasteless. I ordered the Ham & Cheese Omelet, potatoes, sour dough toast and coffee. The omelet was bland, the potatoes were ok and my toast was devoid of butter. Lastly, the service was way below par. Although my server was very friendly, I had to ask for a refill on my coffee and the place was not that busy. I actually saw patrons getting up from their tables, going to the coffee station and pour themselves coffee… not good, in my estimation. All in all I most likely will not return.

I just moved into the neighborhood, and I decided to give the local place a try(as opposed to the Starbucks across the street). I’m glad I did. Good breakfast. Ample portions. Good prices. I have been a few times now, and they know my coffee order, and they love it when I bring my boys(ages 3 and 5). Of course, it helps that they are adorable. Bottom line, come here for breakfast or brunch. You will be glad you did.

what can i say about this except not what I expected. We ordered avocado, cheese, and bacon omelettes… Unfortunately they we’re GREASY and burnt *sigh, one of the coffee cups was chipped, the oj seemed homemade but oversweteened, the bacon was supper greasy, and our toast was drenched with butter. The service was amiable our food was out within a fair amount of time… but the place is overcrowded with old décor which as become dingy and greasy making the place feel dirty. Cleanliness is a number one thing and this placed lacked some of it. The ketchup bottle was dirty not from a day or two but a few weeks of them not washing the containers. It’s the minor details that make the difference. Daily Grind owners it’s time make a lil fixer upper change.

Listen. I say this carefully: don’t go out of your way, but don’t miss this place. The food is — essentially and quintessentially — American Diner classic. Quick, Heavy, Strong. The coffee isn’t fancy. The service isn’t ambient soul stirringly nice. But, it’s a good hearty meal, served by folks who care about making a solid something to eat and are friendly enough when you’re a passer through. Honestly, they might have the BEST Chicken Fried Steak I’ve ever, ever had. So, if you’re near by — fight to park and stop in. Note: they take cards but you can NOT tip by card: we didn’t have cash, so we had to «stiff» on the tip(we will make up for that, I promise): so have some cash handy…

This café is… okay. The food is average but more expensive then I’d like. But it is filling! Doesn’t taste amaaaazing though. The waitress we had was rude. I was eating here with my dad and she kept interrupting him to cut straight to the chase and get his order down when he tried asking questions about the food. Uh… rude! I’ve never seen a waitress straight up INTERRUPT a guest. My dad, being the nice guy he is, didn’t fight back though. She was an older lady, and I overheard her yelling at one of the 20 yearish old waitresses while we were eating… I felt awkward. Overall, wouldn’t come back bc of the service. I feel bad for the younger waitress though for having to put up with that kind of management.

If we are rating on food alone? 5 stars. Rating on customer service, negative 2 stars! I’ve been going to this place for years and the original staff/owners are great but they have a couple of waitresses that are just straight up aweful. If I didn’t already love the food I’d definitely boycott the place. Every time I go, the waitresses never want to help each other out and ignore patrons like it’s nobody’s business. Luckily, the food is amazing and extremely well priced.

I’ve been to this restaurant several times now. It is always hoppin’ when I go. The environment is bustling and the servers can be pretty busy. One of the waitresses isn’t the most friendly but she does her job well. Each time I’ve gone the service has been prompt. I’ve had to grab their attention for a few things after being served but that’s nothing to fret about. It is a very layed-back environment in terms of ambiance. I love their omelets and you can never go wrong with their pancakes/french toast. Prices are fair for their quality. None of their plates are AMAZING but definitely of good quality. Great place to get a satisfying breakfast.

I don’t know why I like this place, but I do. No wifi, its not terribly clean or new, and the bathroom is outside in the back of the building. But the food is delicious, the service friendly, and it has a warm, simple feel to it. I had the tuna melt with fries and it was great. You do have to try to get the attention of the staff sometimes, but this is a local joint… not a chain restaurant. So just chill out and wait or even just walk up to the counter and say you’d like to order. The only thing missing from this little hole in the wall diner was the lunch counter. I will definitely be back!

I’ve been her about 5 – 10 times now. Usually it’s a great experience. Sometimes they have pretty slow service, so it takes a while to get your food. The food ends up being delicious though, so I’d recommend it! Pretty cute litter breakfast diner.

Cute little spot. Staff looked kinda tired. Average price per plate 13.00… Thought there was gonna be like a 5 doll hair special — there wasn’t. Large portions. I went with this super hot sorority girl though. Girl was 5 stars, food was 3 stars. In giving this a 4 star review.

Great place for a traditional breakfast. Our waitress was attentive food came out quick but here’s why I gave it a solid 3 stars… the guy that brought our drinks wasn’t very friendly. I felt like he was annoyed by my friends two toddlers. He kept rolling his eyes whenever my friend asked him for a new straw because her kids would drop it on the floor. I noticed the silverware was dirty… that says it all gross. And our waitress an older women rushed us to not only make a decision on what we were going to eat, but right after we received our food gave us the check. Let’s get to food… so everything was great like I said nothing spectacular just traditional breakfast but my eggs were on the greasy side. So they weren’t very appetizing which was a bummer because they looked so good. My bacon was very hardly be overcooked. The only thing that I ate were my pancakes and the sausage.

The food at this small mom and pop restaurant is just OK. It was my second time coming and it was a huge strange disappointment all the way around. I ordered a smoked salmon and avocado omelet with jack cheese. It came with hollandaise. So I asked for it to be on the side along with the cream cheese. I also asked for wheat bread instead of white and spinach instead of potatoes, which I offer to pay extra for. So the order comes and I have an egg Benedict 9n white bread. They got the spinach correct. So I guess they get a point for that. I explain the mistake and the women(owner) purses her lips and rolls her eyes upward. Really! So she attempts to have the order fixed and it comes back. It’s an omelet. Yay! But there is no avocado an no jack cheese and no wheat toast. I attempt to clarify again and am patient an nice. I ignore the cheese and avocado because frankly I think it’s too confusing for her and focus on the bread. She does bring it when I’m nearly done with my meal. The food is over salted. I give up and just want to leave. The check comes and I go to pay and there is no room for a tip. I mention this to another young server who also waited on me and she says they are not allowed to accept tips. I mention that this is odd. Unfortunately I don’t have cash and mention this to her and that this is really different. She says it’s ok and not to worry about it. It happens a lot. I vow to never return to this backwards joint. It was like being in the twilight zone. I hate bashing small businesses. I’m generally a very positive person. But I can only squeeze out 2 stars for this review. Go there if you are famished and there are no other choices!

Absolutely loved the pork chops. Chef cooked them perfectly and the pig meat was of better quality than some of the other cheap diners serve around the mid city area. Really enjoyed the chunky pieces of potato in my home fries but was a little disappointed that they were served at room temperature and were not freshly cooked or warm. The chef cooking really knew how to cook the eggs over easy. Will definitely remember that because I love my eggs sunny side up but won’t trust a place unless they know how to cook over-easy eggs and Daily Grind Café passed the test.

My food was raw. Service was horrible. When I told them my food was undercooked, the waitress goes«that’s fine«and takes it away. She never came back, and didn’t offer me anything else. When I complained to the manager, the lady came back out and cornered me asking what I wanted in front of everyone. It was very uncomfortable, and couldn’t have been handled any worse. I’ll never be back, and will make sure to never recommended it to anyone.

I wish I could say that I got to enjoy the Daily Grind. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. I originally found myself on the way to the Starbucks across the street, but when spotting the daily grind, decided to look it up on Unilocal. It had a 3 star review, which is a low enough rating for me to usually walk the other way, but I decided to give this mom and pop shop a try anyway. I walked in and waited in the register line to be told to «sit anywhere.» Okay, can do. I sat outside on the patio and waited and waited… and waited. I even caught the eye of what looked like the only waitress on staff. So I assumed that she would come back. She didn’t. I waited a total of 15 minutes and then walked across the street to Starbucks to get a bagel and coffee. We’ll, that was a nice waste of time. I won’t give them a second glance the next time I’m in the area.

I’m not a morning person, but, yesterday when I woke up early I had a craving for breakfast, but not dealing with the hassle of going to some popular ritzy joint which led me to finding The Daily Grind. With it being my first time there I wasn’t sure whether we were supposed to just sit down or have someone sit my friend and I. My confusion wasn’t helped by the three different entrances. We ended up just walking to the counter, grabbing a menu and choosing a table. The décor of the place itself is very homely and there are many windows which lights the place up, so it feels inviting. Unfortunately, this feeling was negated by the service. Our waitress didn’t seem to be personable. She didn’t make any small talk with us nor really greet us when she served us initially. This would make sense if it was busy, but considering there were only 3 other tables there was no real explanation. She started lightening up towards the end though. As for the food my corn beef hash was on point and paired well with the over easy eggs which were also perfectly cooked. The breakfast potatoes were mediocre though. They were lukewarm rather than piping hot. Worse, they tasted unseasoned. Salt and pepper can only do so much, they need to use bacon grease or something. My friend had their Oversized Farmer’s Omelette(ham, cheese, onion, bacon, tomato) and added avocado. He really enjoyed his Oversized Farmer’s omelet and devoured it. He didn’t like the potatoes at all though, and said they were either too tough or slightly overcooked. After we finished we called for the check, paid, and left without being thanked for coming or anything. I’d come back again solely for the food — places with good corn beef are hard to find. But, next time I won’t expect anything more than that. Side note: There isn’t a lot of parking so depending when you come you might be SOL for a spot.

DANG!!! I really hate to hate on a Ma-n-Pop kind of place! Actually, some of this is my own dang fault. I hail from the southeast(well, I’ve spent most of my adult life there anyway) and I KNOW good gravy… as in biscuits and… I should have known better than to order a traditionally southern dish on the west coast. *Face in palm* *Deep breath… long sigh* Here goes… okay, like a bandaid, this will be quick. Coffee — bad, watery, just no Eggs — mediocre(asked for scrambled soft, which must have confused the line cook) Potatoes — pretty good actually Bacon — yummy Biscuits — what the what? THIS is no biscuit. This is mealy hockey puck! Sausage Gravy — where is the sausage? Where is the love? Where is the hearty heart-stopping goodness? Seriously, only took one bite of the biscuits and gravy and that was all she wrote. Also, I think the restroom is outside?
