Downhill Johnny’s Bicycle

Arête: Excellence to describe my experience with Downhill Johnny!
I had an annoying sound coming from my bike I could not locate. I took my bike to three shops in Southern OC who are all reputable and one even nationally recognized by Bicycling magazine as one of the Best Bikeshops in America 2015 but to no avail. I came to Johnny based on a recommendation from a work colleague and I finally got what three bike shop visits and couple hundred dollars of unfulfilled repair bills could NOT, a silent bike where all you hear is the crisp click of gears shifting and smooth drive train humming.
Johnny took the time to diagnose the problem asking detailed questions, having me ride the bike with him by my side and even he riding my bike to pinpoint the annoying noise. He kept the bike to tinker with it for a few days and voila! Noise gone:)
I have been enjoying my bike the past few weeks and waited to write this review in case the noise reappeared but nope. I am a totally satisfied customer and will be back.
More enjoyable than getting my bike fixed to the way it should be is meeting someone you know you can trust, take your bike issues with but most importantly establish a long term relationship while learning about bikes as much as you want to learn since Johnny freely shares as much knowledge you want to absorb…

I drove up to check out his store and a used bicycle/​components he is selling for one of his clients. Johnny is knowledgable, helpful, and attentive. He is definitely a small business/​one man show but is surprisingly well stocked and willing to work with your budget (mine prefers used components). One thing that sets him apart from many bike shops (aside from lacking that salesman attitude that suddenly becomes less personable after a sale) is that he will build you the perfect bike from scratch. he will sit you on his special bike/​machine and find your perfect fit while you view your posture and pedal strokes on a large screen and then go from there. This is also different from other stores that will charge you ridiculous fees to upgrade components on one of their stock bikes. Good guy, good business, good products,
