A lot of brands tend to be Hit & Miss so depending on how long you follow a brand and also how you change has a great deal to do with if you will still support the brand or even flinch when it changes. G by Guess is new. It’s edgy and modern. Interesting shapes and colors right now. I’ve been buying Guess for around 20 yrs and have spent as much as $ 1000 in a month throughout all their stores around the bay area to not stepping foot in the doors for close to 8 years. Something got me to walk into a few of the stores whether it’s G by Guess at the Great Mall or Guess at the Westfield in San Jose or even San Francisco downtown, they are HoTT right now… get it while it’s NOW!

Come in here at the right time and you can find yourself one hell of a deal in the clearance section. I kinda have a hard time paying regular price for shit here ’cause Guess merch tends to be a little too blingy-look-at-me-in-da-club-and-buy-me-a-sex-on-the-beach-tee-hee-that’s-so-scandalous-OMG for someone who’s in her Dirty Thirties. If I wanted to wear big cheap-looking emblems and appliqués, I’d buy a BeDazzler. That being said, if you sort past the ghetto overly-branded t-shirts and purses with huge fake gold clasps, you can occasionally find some nice items. When I’m in need of something slightly dressy for example, I come here and sometimes find just what I’m looking for. A couple weekends ago, I scored two really adorable dresses for $ 19 each. Fitting rooms tend to be a holy mess here. And the music sucks. But the employees are generally pretty friendly and helpful so if you’re in the Shopping Zone and you can handle digging through tacky rhinestones to try and find something decent while some god-awful Rihanna shit pounds through the speakers and into your brain, give it a go.

Now this store is officially«G by Guess». I’m a Guess Jeans girl, so any version of Guess that’s a little less harsh on my wallet is cool by me. This location used to be similar to an outlet, but they totally redid the interior, and now the store is exclusively for another line by Georges Marciano. There are lots of sexy shorts and tops, but also a variety of conservative skirts and simple prints and colors. Fabrics are friendly and flexible. Good for comfy tees with sleek graphics, which aren’t overdone. So, you can pick up daytime and nighttime clothes in the same sweep. There are other accessories like belts, shoes, jewelry, watches, wallets, handbags and purses, too. I love Guess leather belts especially because they don’t seem to split or weather down as quickly as other brands do. I have a solid black one with a thick silver«G» for the front buckle and it cost me $ 20 here, and has lasted me over a year, and I wear it pretty much every time I wear jeans. The customer service here is good, also. Somebody is usually in the back of the store to assist you with a fitting room, while another person is definitely at the register. I’ve never seen a line at the cash register, which is great! There’s also a seating area by the fitting rooms in the rear, so your companion can relax, listen to music or watch the video on the screen, or flip through one of the trendy little books they have on the coffee table. On a side note, I do miss the retro Guess Jeans glam shots of Anna Nicole Smith they had in the store as the backdrop behind the register, before it was remodeled. She was the epitome of a blonde bombshell in those days. Other models included Drew Barrymore and Paris Hilton. I still think Anna was the best!

This Guess store is closing for about a month and a half, so they’re having a huge sale right now. I have to admit, despite the temptation to pop in here many times, I’ve only entered this store once — something about the big sale sign in their front display that just called to me. For the most part, they had some really fun inventory. But the thing is, I just don’t have a «Guess» body. I think I’ve only ever owned one pair of Guess jeans and that was in high school when I still had ITC(inner thigh clearance… sigh… I miss those days). But today, I found«the» dress — you know it when you see it. I didn’t even try it on(thank goodness it actually looked as good, filled in, as I envisioned it in the store, laying flat and lifeless on that hanger! And it’s super comfy, too). It’s a great sale. The store has a nice, open, bright layout. They’ll temporarily close for remodeling beginning March 18 so take a quick peek if you’re in the area. They’ll re-open in early May under another line from Guess(«G» by Guess *not much info. yet but you can stay updated at: ). *I’m only keeping it at three stars, ‘cuz it’s a pet peeve of mine when they inconveniently tell you that all sale items are non-refundable and exchange only AFTER they’ve already processed the sale(they did this for two transactions, in a row, that I witnessed. Plus there was no signage re. this policy.). Let’s just say they’re lucky the dress ended up fitting me!

I don’t frequent the Guess too often. Fairly trampy attire, at crazy prices for such small scraps of fabric. And yes, fine, my giant rib cage strains the seams of most of the stuff I try on. BUT. For when I’m craving the Guess? This place kicks butt. It’s like(shhhh) an outlet. In the mall. Yeah fine the stuff is a little outdated, but two skanky tops and a jacket for $ 60? Show me how you can do that at the REGULAR Guess stores!
