TPC San Antonio

I love to golf and would consider myself to be a descent golfer, but not great. I just don’t play enough. The convention I was attending at the JW Marriott San Antonio was having their annual golf outing which was a best ball scramble.
The course was in great condition. The golf carts have GPS and communication to ensure you don’t leave the allowed area (some parts are «off limits»). There was actually a time the only way to move the golf cart was to go backwards until it allowed us to continue. The greens are moderate and challenging. The fairways are well designed and true. I would say it wasn’t ridiculously difficult. This course could be the acid test to anyone who believes they could keep up with the pros. I rented clubs and the rentals weren’t too high priced either. They offered several different rental options such as Taylor Made, Nike, Callaway, etc. I took the Callways which included two sleeves of TPC logo balls.
The staff are very professional and helpful. What’s also nice about it is that it’s not far from the hotel meaning you could walk. I’d love to come back and play a standard round.

2 absolutely awesome golf courses within walking distance from an equally impressive hotel. I live in Buda 50 miles away and it’s our family’s favorite place to go to for a quick weekend trip.
The wife and kids go to the incredible water park and I walk over and play/​practice at the TPC. It doesn’t get any better than that. Plus Matt and his staff at the TPC is extremely friendly and accommodating. A first class experience from start to finish.

Located at the JW Marriott Resort. I booked a package for two nights stay and four rounds of golf for two days. I arrived before checking into the hotel since my tee time was at 830 am. I find It amazing that this sport GOLF allows a ordinary person like myself to play the same exact courses PGA pro’s play. Parking was a breeze and golf bag handlers were on the spot accommodating.
Checked into the beautifully stocked golf shop where they had my tee time set and proceeded to warmed up on the large and pristine driving range. The facility actually has members and guest of the hotel are allowed to play the course. It was a Friday and we played the Canyons course which is the course the PGA champions play in October. The course was wide and forgiving but the greens were undulating and challenging. As you might expect the course was in perfect condition but was wide open — we didn’t run into a group the entire day! I heart the GPS equipped carts BC on each hole there’s a voice that verbally describes and advises you tips of where to hit your tee shot! We finished the round in less than 4 hours.
After playing my round the bag handlers stored our golf bags for our rounds on the Oaks course the following morning. This course designed by Greg Norman was even more spectacular and difficult. I would definitely recommend this golf facility for the convenience, beauty and 36 holes of immaculate golf offered here!
Prices vary but a package including hotel stay at the JW Marriott and golf is the way to go in my opinion. If you’re a Marriott Vacation club owner as myself look into a package where you can trade your VC points — which is what I did.

Played the Oaks course. Home of the PGA tour stop. This is a Greg Norman course so it was VERY challenging. When you did hit a fairway, the approaches were very dicey to sloping greens, false fronts and tough pins. If you want to enjoy your golf, move up one tee marker. Hit wedges to these greens vs 5 irons. Staff and starters were nice as with most TPC facilities. However, we played Labor Day Sunday, and saw beverage cart only once and that was on the second hole. We picked up drinks at the turn, but still did not see cart after we finished 18. We wanted to drink some beers and have a good time, but it didn’t happen. Moreover, we couldn’t even get ice for water. After the round, asked one of the attendants where and if a cart could take us to the Parking lot of the hotel to put my clubs back and his answer was «if you can find one…» Not to helpful. Great course, cool layout, but need more attention to details for $ 139 a round.

Sa-​weeet course — amazing resort with water park. Top of the line Marriot facility. Big bucks but hey, you can’t take it with you amIright ??
Now I’m a really big hitter so this was cake for me. But regular golfers might have a problem. Bring your wedges and spin in those eagles!
