Great little taco restaurant and bar. Here from Virginia beach not bad and not a tourist trap place.

I was really excited to try this place but was disappointed. The location is really cool and is in walking distance to the Hays Street Bridge. It seemed like a neat place so I couldn’t wait to eat the tacos here. I will say they are dog friendly which is a plus. The tacos are very whatever. I ordered the vegetarian and fish tacos and wasn’t impressed. The tacos fall apart immediately and they are really messy. Besides the tortilla the taco wasn’t bad but not the best. It’s really a shame because the seating and atmosphere is really cool. Tortillas matter when talking tacos.

Great food with an AMAZING view of Downtown SA! If you’re a fan of Friendly Spot, The Luxury or La Tuna, this place provides the same atmosphere only with better views, a solid beer list and some deliciously spicy Mexican dishes — all without the lines. Ordered almost everything off the menu and have never been disappointed. I will agree that some of the dishes may kick a pretty powerful punch in the Spicy department, but in my opinion, it beats the bland cuisine of the aforementioned bars. KG Recommended.

I was looking for something that isn’t touristy, but is low key and tasty. This was the perfect place. The lengua tacos were delicious, the people nice, and the vibe chill. It’s a very no frills taco bar, but was perfect.

Mostly outdoor seating but I think there is inside seating also. We tried the pork tacos which were good. There were a group of teenagers here who seemed to know the people who worked here. They were obnoxious. Other than that it’s a nice quite little bar that serves tacos.

Queso was Meh. But I will be back for the squash quesadilla! It was incredible and worth coming for. Beer selection is great as well.

A tiny overpass luxury in SA town. Perfect way to enjoy beer and tacos without the AC destroying your freshly shaven legs. Currently, I’m feeling the warm glow of local lager buzziness while I wait for my squash tacos and house queso. I’m a happy little camper and Toro rocks. Definitely coming back for the beer and the not-creepy smiles.

1 star for the view. Otherwise, stay away from this over-priced wanna-be hipster joint. After working up an appetite we stopped in early Friday evening. Hungry, thirsty and hot we ordered almost everything(it seemed) — 4 separate orders of tacos, queso and 2 beers — our tab alone was well over $ 40. We got our beers and hoped for the queso, they said«it’s coming right out». — We sat in the humid conditions. no fans/misters. The runner brings us these micro-sized tacos within 15 minutes. I informed the runner we were missing our queso!(it IS an appetizer, isn’t it?). He said i’ll have to go up to ask them. Annoyed, I walked to the bar area and waited in line. I asked for the queso we paid for, they said«Go have a seat and we’ll bring it out». — seriously? no apology, no «I’m sorry, we forgot», just sit and wait more because pouring melted cheese in a paper bowl takes 15 minutes. Food: SUCKED, the tortillas are store bought, hard, and broke into pieces. The whole point was to share our tacos, between a transfer the tacos just imploded like a trap door. Surprisingly, every taco taste the same — its like they threw all the meats in 1 marinade and just tossed meat into rock-hard tortillas. Queso: 20 minutes later, the 6 $ velveeta cheese topped with cilantro served with tostadas was the best thing. But not worth the money. Sadly, we left disappointed and I’ll never return until Groupon convinces me.

Ok so I go to as many local places as possible that are. just opening. I love to support locals. Atmosphere is cool open n chill Food and drinks are way over priced for the area. Honestly food wasn’t all that great. Needs some work on knowing to put at least a few recognizable items. I live with a chef so i feel like I have learned alot. So I realize because my palate didnt enjoy the. flavor didnt. mean it wasnt good. When it comes to food… by all means im not cheap… but when you compare it to what they serve and where they are serving it, just didn’t enjoy it. I would only come bk for drinks ONLY during happy hour if I had no other choice. My chef isnt just a. cook trying to call himself a chef… he has school from CIA& johnson wales out of NY. Not to mention the ppl he has worked under. Bohanans, la gloria, the palm. these are all places he. was asked to help open n get started. Anyhow, the guy behind the counter was nice n courteous and gave me the squash tacos to replace the pork tacos I did not like. We both agreed the squash tacos were way better than.the.pork n. cabrito but were jst grossed out by.then. I gave 2 stars only for the nice guy n atmosphere

Better get here soon before it goes out of business. We ordered a mango Margarita which was mediocre. Sort of a prefab drink in a plastic cup. The inside bar looked very enticing but actually was sweltering. No ac in texas, seriously? The bartender plugged in a fan and told us to sit in a breezy nook. We came here to see a band that was supposed to play at 9. It’s after 10 and still no nahuatlacos – tiempo latino. Just a rambling drunk on stage and some uninspired Chicano poetry. Some may find this character, «puro san antonio,» but I think toro taco is just annoying. Won’t be back.

Fun little roadside spot to enjoy some Mexican street food and a cold beer with friends. The menu is limited, but everything we have tried has been good. Majority of the seating is outside so be prepared with your sunscreen. My favorite is the cabritos tacos, and you can’t go wrong with the guacamole!

Been wanting to try this place since i heard about it a few weeks ago, so we decided to try on a recent sat night. It was a little hard to find, my navigation was trying to take me in a big circle, but i realized it was just easy off 281 on Brooklyn street. It’s definitely no frills dining, you order at the window, they give you a number and call you when it’s ready. Basically, these are really yummy street tacos. We had the pork, lamb and some house guacamole. I wanted to try the cabrito, but they were out. It was about 9:30 when we got there so our bad, I guess. They have a decent beer selection and a few wine and cocktails if you prefer that. We tried the malbec which was pretty good and reasonably priced, 5 bucks a glass, but they ran out. I tried the travelers grapefruit ipa, which was nice and light. Perfect for a summer night on the patio. We did have mosquitos crashing our party, but they had citronella candles on the tables and even bug spray available for use! I still got a few bites, but not their fault! Bugs just think I’m that sweet! Nice view of the city and stars also while you nosh and enjoy your beverage. I might try this place again, come early for the best selection.

Yum! Pork tacos were well seasoned, juicy. The pickled veggies were crispy good, great fresh flavor, not too vinegary. Tortillas tasted fresh, held up, not as in another review posted. The squash chalupa was fabulous. Reminded me of a Navajo fry bread. More than just grilled vegetables and mushrooms, the seasonings again were delicious. Squash blossoms were a yummy touch. The fresh guacamole with chorizo was a refreshing treat. For beverages, we chose from the beer offerings… bottled Mexican imports on this warm summer evening. We will be back to try some of the selections of tequila as we work our way through the menu. Thanks for a relaxing meal on the shaded patio.

Real talk. My mom told me I was supposed to be Latin. So when u say the corn tortillas are whack here… Please understand that I truly mean it from the bottom of those store bought tortillas that rip from the weight of that beautiful filling. This place is worthy of five full stars by the lengua alone. It is flavorful. It is moist. And it is the best damn thing to reach your lips after cycling around your hood with your frans. But then you lift it up under that flimsy tortilla and ½ the filling reaches your lips and the other ½ lands in your lap. WHYMUSTYOUGIVEMESTAINCROTCH? I still like you bro. Minus that one obnoxious DJ that Fiesta Saturday. But work out the above yeah? You’re way too good for store tortillas.

Had the pork tacos, squash tacos & squash quesadilla. I expected something different. As others mentioned — the tacos are 3 small tortillas. The problem is that the tortillas are thin and store bought so they fall apart with the saucy fillings. The tortilla for the quesadilla was a little thicker but it was overstuffed it also fell apart. The salsa that the tacos/quesadilla came with was very spicy but had no flavor. Also– be careful with the seating since the floor can be uneven and the chairs are not very sturdy easily can wipe out. It’s a really cool concept but lacking handmade corn tortillas. Not sure I would trek out– that’s my experience.

Was looking forward to trying this place after reading it in the papers and hyped it up to my wife… Not exactly what I expected. MENU is limited to a few items… Three types of tacos, a quesadilla, a tamale… Buneulos and some appetizers. If you are a drinker, this is a likable place. It’s a bar setup… so, big plus. As for a restaurant… especially a Mexican or a taco place, do not expect the norm. The FOOD was decent but there are better places serving this kind of tacos.(like Torchys). I got the pork tacos and while the description on the board says you get three, it’s put together like it’s one. I had to separate and make individual tacos, making sure I had enough pork for all three street size taco tortillas. It came with pickled vegetables and it balanced it out. I may have liked it better if they served it with each tortilla filled separately with slaw and pork. My wife ordered tamales and this wasn’t the traditional tamales… It was prepared with a sauce poured on top with slices of cactus. It was pretty good. We also got the chorizo guacamole… while it was good when it was mixed, it came with store bought chips and chiccarones, and that just ruined it. Again, the place may be a hit as a bar with bar food, but can’t say that the food is a must have.

To say that Toro has served some of my favorite meals in the short few weeks they’ve been open isn’t hype. It’s fact. Josh, Rick and crew are rocking it Puro San Anto style. The outdoor seating is phenomenal, live music coming soon, chingos of delicious bites, sooooo many tequilas and libations. The buñuelos can be made #GF #justsaying The view is sweet, the prices better and the menu(calabaza and huitlacoche quesadillas-what?!) is the stuff of dreams.
