I’m going to see an optometrist not an MD. $ 215 – 275 for contacts, glasses, and eye exam without insurance, that’s still RIDICULOUS! Some real doctors don’t even make that much per hour. If I could give this establishment negative stars I would! I wouldn’t be surprised if the owner makes her friends write positive reviews for her. This place is a rip off and SUPERRUDE! They clearly just want your cash here and the guy at the front desk is whipped and mumbles, so that you can barely understand him. You can tell the person in charge is EXTREMELYCONTROLLING here. We went here initially and asked how much for a glasses and contact exam. The person at the front desk quoted us $ 120, which is about what most optometrists charge so we though it was fair. Wait times are long here and he could only schedule us in a week and a half, so we scheduled. They are super uptight about their practices here, but in a CONTROLLINGANDINVASIVE way. They make you fill out paperwork online, which includes giving you their social security number. The form isn’t well edited. I’m concerned about how secure and safe your information is. Most practices make you fill out paperwork in the office, but this one does it «online» to save time. Then they expect you to confirm your appointment 3 – 5 times online, over the phone, and via text message. It’s EXCESSIVE. Maybe they have too many people canceling because they are SUPER shady and rude. When I first walked in the guy at the front desk said to stand in front of the camera to TAKEMYPICTURE. That’s SHADY… I’ve never had that done before at the optometrist. He didn’t even tell me what it was for. When my mom asked he gave some shady answer.“it’s for security.” Who knows what they do with those photos. The guy at the front desk confirmed what I was getting. To my surprise he now said $ 120 was only for an eye exam and no contacts! Dr. Fortenberry was standing by the desk and followed up by YELLING across the room about what the prices were for contacts and YELLING in a CONDESCENDING way trying to explain that fitting contacts warrants an extra 100 bucks bring my total to $ 215 – 275 depending on how the contact fitting goes. I’m far from stupid. I know what an eye exam and contacts entails and the appropriate price for one. My mom and I have never seen such rude behavior from a medical professional, yet along YELLING. Who does that? Grow up! I know what I should expect in terms of professionalism because I’m training to be a medical professional. She calmed down a bit and brought us over to show why we would be paying over $ 200. She explained it quickly and it still didn’t make sense because I’ve never had an optometrist try to explain to me what my money was going towards because HONESTLYIT’s NOTTHATCOMPLICATED. At most offices and eye exam with contacts doesn’t need explaining. Most places charge $ 100 – 150. Thankfully, we called up a nearby optometrist and they were able to get us in for the same day and they said the upper end price for eye exam and contacts would be $ 160 max, but most people aren’t that complicated and I’ll probably be paying a less than $ 130. Anyways unless you want to wait forever for an eye appointment, want to be yelled at, pay ridiculous prices, be taken advantage of, and have your PRIVACYVIOLATEDDON’T COMEHERE!

I can’t say enough great things about Bandera TSO and Dr. Fortenberry. Everything from the minute I walked in the door was great. Very welcoming staff, beautiful office. The equipment is all new and top notch. Dr. Fortenberry is absolutely great. She is so sweet and kind and has a great pleasant disposition. She spent a ton of time with me and made sure everything was okay. Jake helped me out in getting some lenses and he was awesome too. He really knew his stuff about optics! I can’t possible recommend this practice enough. The entire experience was awesome. Five stars!!!

I went here for an eye exam and contacts. The staff was friendly and overall great to work with. I would definitely recommend them if you are in search of an eye doctor. For the military family, they do accept tricare.

I took my 8, 7, and 5 year old here for their annual exams and had a great experience. We were able to get scheduled within a matter of days of our initial phone call. And I can not say enough how much I love the doctor here! She was patient with my children and was able to get all three of them to allow her to dilate their eyes which in itself is a very large task. My children all came out of the exam room smiling which was amazing seeing how their exams last year at a different doctors office one left literally kicking and screaming. I would definitely recommend this doctor especially if you have children. She posses the knowledge needed to adequately maintain the health of your eyes but the compassion needed to work with small children.

I had an appt here this week and had a wonderful experience. I had to take my 3 month old daughter with me. When she started to cry, Jake came in and calmed her(and me) while my exam was concluded. The staff is very accommodating and knowledgeable. I’m glad I found Dr. Fortenberry and staff at Texas State Optical Bandera to fulfill my vision needs.
