Oh Takoriya how I love you. And now, how I miss you. I’m not sure what happened, but it’s been tooooo long since I last saw and enjoyed Takoriya. Please, come back to me!!! Takoriya was our Sunday night tradition(along w/an ice cold PBR) at Alamo Eat Street Bar before taking in some Walking Dead. Service was always super friendly, and the food fresh, hot, and delish. My fav menu items were the kimchi fried, which is french fries topped w/kimchi and your choice of meat(or served w/out meat and w/extra kimchi) as well as the kimchi fried rice. Noticing a trend here? They have KILLER Kimchi! My buddies would always indulge on their awesome tacos as well. It was always a Sunday well spent. But here recently, we’ve yet to be able to locate them. I’m itching for a kimchi fix, so please-COME BACKTOMEEEEEEEE! I miss you. and if anyone can point me to their new location(s) it would be GREATLY appreciated!

Short review: their best seller was incredibly bland. Their friendliness and they accepting credit cards are reason for 2 stars; food was 1. Long review: I was excited to try this place-kinda thought it’d be something along the lines of East Side King in ATX. Boy was I mistaken. The lady taking orders was incredibly sweet and friendly. Asked her what her best seller was and for an order of that. Rice well cooked, plentyful-almost too much(twice as much as rice than actual protein)-and bland-could’ve used a lil salt or aromatics. In any case, the chicken lacked spice and the kimche needed more flavor. Not impressed.

After missing this truck at Alamo Street Eat Bar I finally caught up with it @ Main Plaza for lunch. I had the«Takos» with Dak Gal Bee(Spicy Chicken). They were great! I was a tiny bit disappointed I couldn’t accompany my meal with my favorite beverage, an ice-cold mexican Coke, but thanks to the laws against glass bottles in city parks I had to settle for a can of Pepsi instead. I genuinely enjoyed the takos though, and after having three I was still able to bike the 3 miles back to work without any, erm… issues, so that was definitely a plus! I definitely am looking forward to trying out more of their menu Oh and btw, love the concept, a twist on traditional San Antonio Taqueria style dining.

Next up on my quest to tackle all food trucks participating in the Downtown program was Takoriya. Korean-Mexican fusion? Now that sounded too weird not to try! Takoriya menu looks like your normal taco truck menu, tacos, burritos, quesadillas etc. The thing that makes them Korean fusion is the spices they use and the kimchi which is in almost all the dishes. I decided on the Kimchi Fried which is like a seven-layer Korean dip of decadence. On the bottom are the fries, nothing too special about ‘em, just the average freezer crinkle cut fries. Next level up in a good dose of mozzarella, followed by your meat of choice(chicken for me) kimchi-fied and topped with lettuce and a spicy mayo-like sauce. For $ 6, it was a lot of food. However, the portions aren’t optimal. It’s like 3⁄5 lettuce, 1⁄5 chicken and 1⁄5 fries. And for a girl who can’t stand a salad for a meal, it was disappointing. Best part of the dish was easily the chicken. The flavors were amazing and it had this sweet-spicy-tangy aftertaste, yum. I’ll give ‘em another try but this time ask them to go lighter on the rabbit food.

Ordered Kimchi Fried which contains fries, Mozzarella cheese, spicy chicken and of course Kimchi. ITISAWESOME!!! I’m not big fan of the fries, but the Spicy Chicken is very flavorful, with Kimchi, it is to die for. I can’t wait to try other items on the menu!

I first noticed Takoriya when I visited my friend’s food truck, Attaboy Burgers, at Revolution Room’s StrEAT Food on Broadway Wednesdays. I’ve always enjoyed fusion food. Combining Korean and Mexican food is a win in my book. The menu consists of tacos, quesadilla, burrito, rice bowl with meat and kimchi, fried kimchi, and bimbimbap style meal. I struggled deciding between the Takos and the Kim Bob, but I decided to tackle the menu from the top. I ordered all three meats: beef, spicy pork, and spicy chicken. The tacos were 1 for $ 3, 2 for $ 5, or 3 for $ 7. The taco consisted of the meat, onions, lettuce, cilantro, and a hot mustard looking sauce. I really enjoyed the beef taco the most. It was juicy and flavorful. I had a hard time differentiating the taste between the chicken and pork. The two things I wish the tacos had were kimchi and lime. Overall, the tacos were yummy for my tummy. They weren’t heavy which was perfect since I had a volleyball game to play after dinner. I’m looking forward to trying more food from the menu. Kim Bob, Kimchi Fried, Burrito, and Dup Bob, you’re next for me to sample and enjoy. Follow Takoriya on Twitter: @takoriya Facebook:
