SERVICE is HORRIBLE! Never got waited on. Had to ask to place my order at which they replied«be right with you». Only to take order 5 min later. This is only with 17 people Inside the restaurant that sits about 50 – 60. With service this bad. WHOCARESABOUTTHEFOOD!!!

Food was really good. Would have been a five star had the service matched. The chicken was good but the pork stole the show. Ask for their salsa. Will definitely be back.

Winner winner chicken dinner! The pollo a la brasa is AMAZING! So tender, juicy and flavorful! This was my first taste of Peruvian food, and it was delicious! My mom and I came here for lunch today around 11:30 and it was empty(besides one group that was finishing up their meal), and the service was a bit slow, but the food was worth it! We both ordered the lunch special which came with ¼ of their signature chicken, 2 sides and a drink for $ 6.49. We both had the green rice and black beans for our sides, and they were both tasty. We also ordered fried plantains, and they were also delicious! The restaurant is very clean and new looking with Peruvian decorations on the walls. Extra tips: I noticed that you can call your order in ahead of time, which is nice if you have a limited amount of time for lunch. Also, they charge gratuity for parties of 5 or more, so be aware of that if you’re coming with a group.

I spent a few weeks in Peru recently and was excited when I came back to San Antonio to discover this place. Looking through the photos, I saw that it seemed extremely authentic. The entrée choices such as Lomo Saltado(a beef tenderloin stir fry with some asian influence) and the rotisserie-like chicken were two things that were everywhere in Peru and were both delicious. They also have inka cola, a peruvian soda that was EVERYWHERE in peru. Personally, I hate it. It tastes like an ultra-sweet cream soda, but some people may like it. Native Peruvians seem to love it, and if anything it speaks to the authenticity of the restaurant. Ambiance: Very casual, clean, appropriate for large groups. There were a fair amount of people when I went, all of whom seemed to be having a good time. Service: Excellent, friendly people who are passionate about their food. They were thrilled to hear that we had been to Peru recently and were excited to show off their food, which they claimed was cooked according to tradition. Food: They quickly mentioned that their most famous item, the rotisserie chicken was easily their most popular item… so popular that they were sold out. Apparently they sell out of the chicken almost daily, and you have to come early or reserve ahead in order to get it. I was sad to hear, but it was a good sign. The chicken looks just like it was in Peru, and they even cook it in a Peruvian-engineered oven that they had shipped to the US. I cannot wait to go back and try it. We chose to get the lomo saltado instead, with beef and shrimp. It traditionally doesn’t have shrimp but it sounded fantastic so we went for it. It was a little pricey IIRC, and the portion size was decent. It was good, but not great. Traditionally I found that it is usually more saucy, this was a bit dry. I did enjoy it though and could tell that it was authentic. They also had a few sauces they serve with the food that were to die for. Make sure to ask for them. Overall, a pleasant experience. I will be back for sure to try the rotisserie chicken!

The chicken(pollo a la brasa) was delicious. Unfortunately, the service was slow and the calamari tasted like they were previously frozen.

I come here to get my peruvian fix. Let me tell you everything is delicous here. I’m from peru. This is an authentic peruvian restaurant. The flavors are truly amazing. When I feel home sick I come here. The pollo a la Braza is really juicy. The anticuchos are on Saturday only. The lomo saltado is so good. Arroz con pollo tastes like my mom would make it! The aji de gallina is also super tasty. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Ate here the other day for the second time. First time was much better than this last time. We took our son, who was visiting us from out of town. To be fair I am giving it a 3 stars for the first visit but, the most recent visit deserves more of a 2 star rating. 1. Walked in after lunch time around 2ish. 2, Sat ourselves 3. No one came to our table to wait on us. 4. I had to get up and ask for menu’s 5.Place was not busy. Only a few tables. Food was not that great this time around. We order their red snapper/market price $ 28 dollars.(not worth it, no flavor to the fish) I could tell it was not seasoned and very bland and to charge $ 28…wow please!!! Not driving out there anytime soon. Pricey and food is average and service was bad too.

This is near our house and has been in my bookmarks to try for awhile and tonight we finally got around to it! We were really underwhelmed given the near perfect reviews here. I will say our server was very nice and friendly. Service was slow though and so was our food. Food was good but I thought the lomo saltado was really acidic and my hubbys bistec al lo pobre was not that exciting. We spent like $ 30 for two meals and waters. I think this was about $ 10 too much for the food we had. There are other places with better food, service and atmosphere at this price point.

I recently got back from a trip to Peru few months ago, so when I realized there is a Peruvian restaurant with stellar reviews in San Antonio, I was thrilled about getting my Lomo saltado fix. The food here is primarily reminiscent of the cuisine from Lima in particular, more so than other Peruvian cities I visited(doubt I will ever find any Alpaca or Cuy here in the states). While I have to admit the taste is not as spectacular as what I had in Peru, I think its still pretty good and I would definitely come back. 1. POLLO A LABRASA: COMEEARLY or CALLAHEAD if you want to try this. When I visited the first time around 6pm they had run out, and the server reallllllllyyyyy hyped up how good the chicken is. So much so, that I couldn’t resist calling in early the next day and going back to pick up some chicken(always want what we can’t have, am I right?) Let me tell you, the lady was not exaggerating. The chicken truly is delicious. They imported a special type oven from Peru that allows them to broil the chicken in a specific way so that it literally just falls of the bone. It’s marinated really well, and is served with seasoned french fries(also delicious) and a salad. I also ordered a side of the cilantro rice which goes great with the chicken. The yellow mayo sauce and the green«spicy»(not so spicy) sauce are great condiments. I can safely say it lives up to the pollo I had in Peru, and I was extremely impressed. I ordered the ¼ chicken which is was the perfect amount of food for one person including the french fries and salad, and it cost $ 7.99 plus $ 2.99 for the cilantro rice(arroz verde) that I ordered on the side. 2. PAPASRELLENAS: Basically a fried potato stuffed with beef and raisins. You get two servings for 4.99(we just ordered one as an appetizer to share among 4 people). Personally, I thought this was the least impressive dish. I absolutely loved papas rellenas in Peru, in fact, my mom makes a similar indian version and it’s one of my favorite things. However, the one at this restaurant was soggy and a little bland. Would not recommend. 3. CAUSADEPOLLO: smashed potatoes mixed with touch of lemon and aji amarillo(paste made from spicy peruvian peppers) make up two top and bottom layers, and then in the middle there is a chicken and mayo filling. We learned how to make this in a cooking class in Lima, and it was absolutely amazing, so I was really excited to try it here. However, I feel like the causa at this restaurant could use some more lime mixed into the potatoes, more fresh peppers in the chicken filling, and definitely some extra aji amarillo paste to go on the side. That being said, I still think this is a unique dish and worth giving a try. 4. LOMOSALTADOWITHSHRIMP: Sautéed Angus tenderloin and shrimp with onions, tomatoes, fried potatoes, aji amarillo, garlic, and soy sauce. You can order the white or cilantro rice on the side, I prefer the white. The sauce was perfect, exactly what I was expecting. The potatoes were delicious and they were generous with the shrimp which was large and tasted fresh. The only downside was that the Angus beef was really chewy, but I was able to overlook that because the rest of the dish was so on point. The dish will taste reminiscent of Asian stir fry, I learned there is a lot of asian influence on peruvian cuisine, especially in Lima where there are«chifa»(asian and peruvian fusion) restaurants on every street. 5. ALFAJORES: soft delicate cookies that are popular in many south american countries and are extremely time consuming to make, which is why each cookie costs a whopping $ 3. It is made from cornstarch which gives it a crumbly consistency, and has a creamy dulce de leche filling in the middle. These are absolutely fantastic, even better than some of the ones I had in Peru, and I wish they were cheaper so I could buy a whole dozen of them. I know $ 3 for one cookie seems ridiculous, but PLEASE try at least one. You won’t regret it. I know this review was super long, but I hope it’s helpful! I will definitely be going back(even though it’s really far from me), and would love to try the ceviche next time!

What we ordered: Causa, papas rellena, shrimp and lomo saltado, and alfajores My friends and I were SUPER excited to eat at this Peruvian restaurant. We just got back from our Peru adventure in December and were craving the cuisine again. Luckily this place looked like it had some great reviews so we had to come try it out. Overall Impression: First of all, this restaurant is run by a cute Peruvian family and are apparently known for their chicken. The oven they cook their chicken in was taken all the way here from Peru. But MAJORTIP: if you want to try their famous chicken(pollo a la brasa), you should call in and reserve your chicken early or just get to the restaurant early to eat. We arrived around 7PM and all of the chicken had already run out. I was so so so sad. And for those of you who are not aware, Peru makes really good chicken — it’s like a rotisserie chicken. SECONDLY, the food was good but certain dishes we had in Peru were better(but obviously since we are not in Peru and we are in SA, this was good enough). Causa de Pollo: This a tower of smashed potatoes with lemon and aji amarillo with chicken and house made mayo. This was one of our favorite appetizer dish we tried in Peru. While it did not live up to the one we had in Peru, the dish was still very good. Papas Rellena: Potato stuffed with beef. The dish was actually pretty small and our least favorite out of what we ordered. It was decent tasting but not something I would order again. Shrimp and Lomo Saltado: The sauce was on point and delicious and I ordered it with cilantro rice(which next time I think I’ll just have the regular rice since I didn’t get too much of a cilantro kick out of the rice). The shrimp was a good size and very juicy, but the tenderloin was a little on the chewy side — it still had a good taste to it though. Alfajores: Now this lived up to the cookies we had in Peru! They are two round cookies with a dulce de leche sweet filling in them. The cookie crumbles perfectly in your mouth and the filling was deliciously sweet but not overly sweet. The only downside? It’s $ 3 for one cookie which it pretty pricey in my opinion. NEXTTIME: Of course I need to try their chicken! And I would love another alfajor cookie if I feel like splurging a bit. :) I recommend this restaurant to all who wants to try Peruvian cuisine!

After being disappointed with some other locations in town we decided to give this place a try. Boy was it a home run! I had the Lomo Saltado, wife had the Anticucho, some fried yucca fries with huacaina sauce the kids had some Salchi-papas and some INCA Kola were definitely happy we found this place. Great substitute for us not being in Peru right now!!!

I love this place! My boyfriend and I try to come every weekend. He loves it as well. I love seasoning of the chicken and the yellow sauce. When I’m there we have to ask for them to refill the bottle. I highly recommend everyone to try it.

After a whole day of disappointed meals on the San Antonio Riverwalk, we decided to stray away from all the tourist traps. We drove by this local restaurant and decided to give it a try. I must say, the service here is a bit low key and only had two employees servicing the whole restaurant. Aside from that, our waiter was extremely helpful with questions we had about the menu. We went ahead and ordered the typical traditional Peruvian dishes: ARROZCONPOLLO($ 5.99) — This lunch special consisted of ¼ chicken served with cilantro-lime rice, black beans, fried plantains, and a drink of your choice. The chicken itself was perfectly roasted. It had the ideal crisp skin that any good rotisserie chicken should have, along with its juicy and flavorful meat. Considering the quality of this chicken, this was such a steal! LOMOSALTADO($ 10.99) — It’s essentially sautéed angus tenderloin strips w/onions, tomatoes, and fries. I requested for no onions, which in turn meant more tomatoes. Yum! The meat was lean yet succulent and went very well with the cilantro-lime rice. There was a good balance of saltiness with a subtle acidity given from the vinegar. This dish was equally as amazing as the first. Overall, Rocoto’s did not disappoint. Everything we had was satisfying and prices are reasonable. I would highly recommend visiting for a solid Peruvian/Latino meal.

I had the rotisserie chicken with green rice, tostones and yuca frita. The chicken was delicious and so was the rice and pretty good tostones. Nice place to be and the service was great. Good place to go after spending half a day at Los Maples State Park.

I went here on my lunch break because I’m always up for trying new types of food. I ordered a fried plantain appetizer, and lunch special portion of Aji de Gallina for the meal. The fried plantains were quite tasty and had a good texture to them. The Aji de Gallina(shredded chicken in a slightly spicy pepper & peanut sauce) was quite tasty as well. I personally would have preferred more spice, but the menu did say it was«mild», so I certainly can’t complain in this regard. Still, it had a good flavor and I definitely took my leftovers home(which was decent amount given the large portion). So in regards to the food quality, I would definitely eat here again. What makes me reluctant to come back, however, is the service. I wouldn’t say the service was bad, but it wasn’t very good either. The waitress didn’t come around much and when she did, she wasn’t very friendly or personable. The folks who came in groups of 3 or more seemed to receive much better service, so maybe she was worried about not getting much of a tip or something. I don’t know. Regardless, the poor service will definitely make me think twice about coming back. So in a nutshell: I’d score the food at a «4», and the service at a «2»(out of 5).

Plus a half a star. Really good place. Not very busy for such a large dining area Ordered the half of chicken with lime cilantro rice. Tasty dish decent sized portions. Really quick service. The extra sauces were all really tasty. I preferred the green sauce. Little zip with a plantain after taste. Chicken was very moist and easy to peel from the bone. Only reason for less than 4 star. First time I went in they ran out of their chicken. Points may go up after a couple visits. I need to try more than just a chicken dish.

4.5 star. GREENRICEGREENRICEGREENRICE! Second time trying Peruvian food. I had it a couple of years ago at somewhere else and wasn’t impressed. But my recent visit at this particular establishment certainly changed my mind on Peruvian dishes. I had this restaurant bookmarked for a long time but I rarely come to this side of town. Since we are having a staff retreat at the hilton resort for work I figured I’d get dinner take-out here because it’s close by. I ordered ¼ chicken with green rice and fried plantains and an order of the lomo Saltado. The chicken tasted pretty good with the two types of sauce it came with. It was a bit dry tho so it wasn’t my favorite. I’ve always liked fried plantains therefore that’s a given. My favorite, however, is the green rice! It tasted so unique, fresh, and delicious! I got hooked on it instantly. Nom nom nom! Lomo Saltado is a stir fry dish of beef sirloin, onions, and potatoes. Did you know it was actually a Chinese-Peruvian dish? I didn’t either! They call all Chinese influenced Peruvian dishes«chifa». How interesting. No wonder I thought the flavor profile seemed familiar. I’m a fan. Now I might have to make effort to drive here to get the green rice and lomo Saltado. Actually the green rice alone would already make me happy! GREENRICEGREENRICEGRREENRICE. Wait, did I mention green rice?!
