Ridiculous chain. I was charged 75 cents for dipping sauce and not told. 75 cents for mustard to go with your hotdog? Won’t be back to this overpriced place ever again.

pretzel maker is located inside the north star mall. it’s right next to express and across from build-a-bear workshop! the lines are usually long within 5 – 7 minutes of waiting time. this is my little cousin’s favorite pretzel stop at the mall she said it’s better than auntie anne’s but i disagree. the only reason why i like auntie anne’s better is for their pretzel dogs and the sweet almond pretzel. it’s much more flavorful and tasty than the dogs at pretzel maker. other than that, the pretzels are fluffy and soft but only good fresh. we usually get the pretzel bites with a drink combo and upgrade for $ 1.50 more. it’s a good deal to share with your family because you get a lot! we pair it up with the cheese sauce and since she’s four years old, we couldn’t get the jalapeño cheese sauce. next time i will get that for sure!

My friend Brian C. and I went to North Star Mall on a Sunday morning. Neither of us being from San Antonio, we didn’t realize the mall didn’t officially open until noon. Yet for some reason the doors were open. Having driven all this way with nothing else to do, we went inside and wandered aimlessly, peeking into stagnant storefronts with their doors wide shut. We turned the corner to Forever 21, which seemed to be the only store that opened early. With hope of finding other stores that were more accommodating to our needs, we decided to walk a little further towards the heart of the shopping center. And that’s when it hit us; the sweet, mouthwatering scent of dough, baking in an oven, permeating through the empty corridors of the lifeless mall. Following our noses, we seemed to float towards Pretzel Maker, which offers soft pretzels coming in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and flavors. The gentleman behind the counter(who turns out has a foster parent with the same first name as me) was kind enough to offer us a sample of a bite-size pretzel coated with cinnamon-spiced sugar. Much to our delight, the pretzel tasted *amazing*. Brian was quick to order a large cup of the stuff, but I wasn’t really feeling my sweet tooth that morning, so I went with the Garlic Pretzel Bites instead. It was even better, like a chewy cluster of garlic bread. To better appease my hunger, I also ordered pretzel wieners(or officially, «Mini-Dogs») and a Mango Breezer. The dogs helped, but in all honesty they were nothing to rave about. The«Breezer»(yet another trademarked name for the common smoothie) on the other hand, was pretty kick-ass. But the main star of the experience was definitely the garlic pretzel bites. I’ve been craving those little bites ever since. Going to the mall before it opened was an unfortunate happenstance, but it turned out to be a blessing because everything at Pretzel Maker was freshly baked when we got there. If I lived closer I’d probably go there early every weekend just to get my fix. I will say though, that if you’re going to serve garlic-covered pretzel bread, you really should consider a garlic-butter dipping sauce like you often get with pizza. But other than that, judges say 10 points all across the board.

Careful at this place. I got the cinnamon bites and found a pubic hair in the bottom of the cup.
