So far, best Chinese food in San Antonio that I have had. Ask for the«authentic» menu. A few days ago, we ordered the sesame balls, beef chun fun(rice noodles), and crispy salty shrimp(not on the menu). I cannot comment on the sesame balls, because I don’t care for them, but the beef rice noodles were superb. The crispy salty shrimp is deep fried shrimp topped with garlic, green onion, ginger, and peppers. Ask for this dish with the shells ON. and yes, eat the shells, too, extra calcium! Today, I ordered the shrimp ha gao(dim sum), hong kong style sweet and sour pork with hot and sour soup. IT was so yummy, exactly like what you get in Houston… or at least close enough. I will continue searching for«Best chinese in SA,» but so far, this restaurant gets this award from me. They also deliver. If you are out of their delivery range, they will still deliver to you if you make a «big order.»

4 Stars — Prices 4 Stars — Portion size 2 Stars — Flavor 4 Stars — Menu Options 1 Star — Cleanliness 3 Stars — Service Would I go again? Probably not. There are enough other restaurants that I haven’t tried yet, that I don’t need to settle for just an average meal. I guess the single best thing about this restaurant would be the lunch special. Your entrée comes with soup, cheese Rangoon, and an egg roll. The second best thing about this restaurant… Was that it happened to be open on Christmas day! We were tired from a long journey, hungry, and needed a meal on Christmas day… It fit the bill. The worst thing about this place was that in the middle of my Lotus wrapped sticky rice with chicken, I found an entire thighbone that I almost broke my tooth on. The waitress said that they always make sticky rice with the chicken bones. So, eat at your own risk. The second worst thing would be the bathroom. The doors had a foot wide diameter ring of scum around the door knob. I had to use a paper towel to touch any of the fixtures. Lucky for me I used the restroom after my meal, or I would’ve been afraid to eat.

Pros: This was some of the best American-Chinese food I’ve had. Service was fast, and the food was fresh. Accessibility was easy, with a large parking lot, and many tables available for seating. Cons: The servers were pretty blunt and rude. My experience with Phoenix Café has generally been a good one. We came here after my brother’s wedding rehearsal, with about 20 people in total. That being said, we were quickly seated, taken care of, and served with more than enough food. Our party ordered two«10 person» meal sets, which included soup, tofu, plenty of vegetables and several kinds of meat. For an extra charge, we added on snow pea leaves, which were delicious and I highly recommend them! The meal was served family-style in our case, and it seemed before we could finish one plate another one was already coming. You’d think that with so many people, surely all the food would be gone– but everyone was full with plenty of left overs to take home! In spite of the service, which was kind of blunt, rude and hasty– the food was great, and it was a very good value.
