We went for the first time on National Margarita Day. The bar area was pretty dirty, so we had a bad first impression with these lazy bartenders who didn’t bother to pick up after several customers who left huge messes. There was salsa slowly pouring down the bar towards me and at least 2 dozen empty margarita glasses on the countertop. Where it became better though, was when our table was ready(15 min wait) because our server was great! I don’t remember her name but she was fast and really nice. Surprisingly, my tortilla soup was very flavorful and the bites of enchiladas that I had(there were 3 different ones) were all delicious! We didn’t really like the queso, and the salsa was not spicy at all. Where it bumped it up was definitely the great service we received, and the fact that it was margarita day!!! We will be back on a Monday soon for their $ 4 strawberry swirl margarita!

So I usually visit the Live oak location and never had a problem and happened to be in this North West location. First of all my original post was deleted because it didn’t have enough detail, I think FOODPOISONING with the carne guesada is enough detail all in itself. Well anyway walked in the location and was greeted at the door on 2÷6÷2016. Sat with server Mia table 74⁄1 ticket number 30291. Sat down order a water and a lemonade looked over the food menu and decided we would order the Dads Plate w/beef fajita and the Carne Guesada Plate. We were served chips and salsa as we waited. The seat across from us was empty and as we were eating the chips they sat two girls across from us who apparently ordered as well they received their food before we did and we waited for a while. Finally we received our food and I noticed on both dishes that they had the NOTSOFRESHCOLOR in the food usually Mexican food Is bright this food looked like it had been sitting out for a while and reheated even parts of my food was cold. But we didn’t complain because we didn’t want to be those guest that complain so we just ate the food. I ordered corn tortillas to eat with my meal prior to receiving my food when I placed my order never did I receive those tortillas till I was already practically done with my meal. The Dads Plate is a joke with only three fajitas to begin with. The carne asada tasted funny and didn’t taste fresh like the Live Oak location i’m a frequent guest in that location so I know how my food is suppose to look and taste. Well we finally received our ticket paid and left. That night the carne asada caused food poisoning vomiting, nausea, headache, diarrhea you name it I know its a bit TMI but they want details so here it is. Following that I went to the Dr. and they confirmed food poisoning due to the carne asada. I didn’t eat the following day at all and couldn’t keep anything down! The Nicha’s rep requested more detail on the deleted Unilocal I left, I responded to his email on website but yet to hear from him back. All in all the experience was horrendous and wouldn’t dream of anyone else getting sick off this location! Disgusting and never again. If I could I would give this location no stars!!!

I love Nichas! Seriously I do. The atmosphere is fun and friendly. The staff is polite never had a problem with them. On my last visit our server(older Mexican man) did a great job. Never kept us waiting for anything with a good personality. The drinks are yummy and happy hour is reasonable. Cucumber martini is delicious. strawberry margarita is very good too & so pretty to look at. Boyfriend had the tequila smash which was expensive but sooo good. Chips were okay. I enjoy the salsa and the queso is average. Green enchiladas are the bomb! The green sauce is tangy and sweet but not too much. The sour cream compliments it perfectly. Beans are decent. My only complaint is the rice. Dry and pretty tasteless. Overall, Nichas gets 5 stars from me:)

Disappointed. The hostess skipped and scratched off our name, there was a hair in our salsa that the server acknowledged., no tortillas with the combo plate, 3 small chunks of fajita with that plate, and no cheese with my street tacos. The $ 10.50 Margarita had NO alcohol in it. Bathroom was clean, tho!

Terrible bar service! Very disrespectful. We tried to order a lemonade, the bar tender said, «we don’t do that here». He changed his tune when we added a margarita. How about pregnant women, non alcohol drinking customers, what would they do?

Tried the breakfast bar. It’s was a nice experience. They had more than the usual bacon, sausage, eggs, pancakes and French toast — although all of that was there. They also had some great-tasting Mexican dishes. We had a great mimosa as well. The staff was friendly and the décor was very nice.

A great place to eat Mexican food. The tortilla soup is my favorite in SA. The drinks are good and the cost is very reasonable. I have never been disappointed by the service. They are always friendly and food is out fast.

I can drink one time and the food was amazing I’m not sure what happened Waited 17 minutes for our drink order. Waited 10 minutes for the drink to come. The waiter brought one of our drinks but the waiter forgot about the 2nd drink. So i had to go to the bar and get my drink. I ordered the«Dad’s Special». It came with 3 pieces of fajitas. And two enchiladas. The portion was so small that it didn’t fill a corn tortilla. The best part of the plate was the salad garnish. I might of been able to eat a portion of my meal had it not been garnished with tomatoes that were sour. I hope the health department can take some time to verify that this the establishment refrigeration system is working properly. I WILLNEVEREATHEREAGAIN.

WE usually visit the Roosevelt Ave. location. But today after my nephew graduation I encourage the family to go to the location at 5059NW Loop 410. It was a pretty large crowd of about 30 or so. I was amazed as to how Patricia handle all 3 table in such a professional manner and so pleasant. I want to congratulate you for choosing this lady Patricia as your employee. Jose Carrasquillo Sr.

Love this place servers are always friendly, bartenders always get my drinks on point and when asked for shots they make some up really fast never not amazes me. The food is always great, I especially love the Wednesday special. :) yes some nights there is a wait but it’s always worth it. I’ve even come to enjoy the Saturday buffet I bring my grandparents with me and they love it. I always come back. :)

Just had the most delicious tortilla soup! Just enough flavor and the small bowl was enough to hit the spot! I didn’t order before hand for lunch but it only took them about 10 mins to whip it up to take it to go;) definitely a must try! Smooches

I’m slipping into a food coma as I write this. Came here for a work function with quite a few ppl and the staff handled everyone nicely. Our drinks chips and salsa were tended to often. I ordered a Pepsi that was flat. The waitress was apologetic and quickly got me another.(yawn #1) I ordered the tortilla soup combo. This come with… tortilla soup(duh), a rolled taco(flauta), a hard taco, lettuce, cheese and guac. When dude put the plate in front of me, I knew I wasn’t going to finish it.(yawn #2) This flauta has to be the longest rolled taco I’ve ever seen. Almost as long as a straw and a half. The taco had shredded, juicy chicken in it, and was good. The soup. This bowl is huge.(yawn #3). Like, the amount of soup in here is retarded. From the celery to the cilantro to the thick cut tortilla strips, this thing is packed. Anyone can throw this stuff in a bowl, but what makes this shine is the massive amount of cheese and chicken. Its becoming hard to keep my eyes open. Umm… the chicken comes in huge shredded chunks, topped my the gooiest, stringiest cheese. I can eat a pretty good amount of food but I was not prepared for this behemoth. You should probly fast befor cming here. And brrring a cot for as nap aftrward. Nap time folks.

So we tried this place based on recommendations from local(or semi-local) San Antonians. We heard it was one of the best Mexican restaurants in SATX. After eating there last night, I’m not sure I want to agree just yet. I’ve heard/read that this location isn’t as authentic or delicious as the original, but this one is closer to us. Upon entering, I was greeted with the smell of Chili’s. I’m not really a fan of that chain, so that was a little strange. And in fact, the entire atmosphere was very chain-y, which was also strange since this is a local place. Our server was nice enough, but difficult to understand. He spoke quietly and quickly. After asking about various meat-free options, he helpfully told me that ALL of their beans and rice are cooked with lard and/or chicken stock. I’m not a stickler for completely vegetarian options, because I know that unless I’m super annoying everywhere I go there will inevitably be things cooked with animal products. But for those of you who are, I’d avoid Nicha’s altogether. There are very few meat-free options, and thinking back on the menu, the options that I did see that were meat-free included their beans with lard. Anyway, I ended up choosing the Chile Rellano with their white rice(instead of Spanish) that he said was chicken-stock free(not sure about the validity of that statement). The rice was nice and just oily enough to taste bad for me, so of course I enjoyed it. The guac was just okay. As for the actual chile rellano, it was covered with a huge pile of cheese and floating in quite a bit of oil. I ate some of it with the delicious tortillas served on the side, but it just wasn’t the best. My husband ordered a three enchilada platter, which he thoroughly enjoyed. All three different enchiladas were home runs for him. I will also say that we went through two bowls of chips and salsa… because the salsa here is bomb. They give you two different kinds, and both are delish. And of course the tortillas. Do not forget about the tortillas.

This restaurant has great atmosphere and very good food. The salsa is very fresh and flavorful. Breakfast is available all day, so for lunch I had the best machacado plate I’ve ever had. The accompanying flour tortillas were made in house, and they were excellent. Great first impression – I’ll be back!

So I went on a date with this girl from the Southside and when I asked her what her favorite Mexican restaurant was she replied«Nichas» without hesitation. Since I rarely go on to that side of town anymore, I’ve never heard of this place. She assured me it was good. Things didn’t work out with her, but I did fall in love with Nichas – the one closer to me anyway. It’s a better than average taqueria which is saying a lot for SA. The chips and salsa were tasty and the enchiladas were better than Jacala. This is a big deal for me because aside from friends’ abuelas, I think Jacala makes the best damn enchiladas in SA, until now! Ok. So they’re really nothing special but they are pretty good. My partner had the fish tacos which she didn’t like so there’s that(but to be fair, she doesn’t know what good Mexican food tastes like. I mean she was actually taken aback when she saw my enchiladas covered in cheese). In any event, MY food was good every time I have visited. The prices are fair. They have a drink menu which I didn’t try but I’m sure it’s your standard fare. I do have to relate one really bad experience we had because it was that bad. So my girlfriend(the one that doesn’t know what good Mexican food tastes like) used her company AmEx to pay for our meal. We had a few beers so those items couldn’t be written off. Most places I’ve been to since, um, the invention of the debit card and computerized cash register are able to very easily split the check. In this case, we asked the server to put the drinks on a separate tab from the food. Simple enough, right? Wrong. It literally, no joke, took them 4 tries to get it right. The server was apologetic but if he didn’t understand our really simple request, he should have asked questions. In the end we had to get a manager to fix the mess that the server created(he charged her corporate card twice and all sorts of nonsense). But that was probably an aberration. I mean, given its location, I would assume that they host business lunches all the time? I dunno. In any event, my gluttonous ass was in a food induced coma so I didn’t really care.

I dig this joint. Fun and festive atmosphere… plenty of flat screen TVs to watch sports… nice, quick service… pretty tasty food, depending on your menu choice. Happy hour: $ 4 margs & ½ price appetizers(M-F 3:30−7pm). The real winner on the apps menu is the bean & cheese nachos. Nicha’s uses that lovely«government cheese», I call it: melts perfectly, isn’t stringy or greasy but oh so palate pleasing. But it’s not like Velveeta or queso either. You know what I’m talking about? I love that stuff. It’s especially wonderful on their cheese enchiladas… which is another winning menu choice. The only other app I’d suggest and that I really enjoy is their quesadillas DONOT get the shrimp ones. They’re quite flavorless and sad. If you must, perhaps a side of pico de gallo and jalapenos will jazz ‘em up? They have a huge combination plate that is fantastic: above mentioned cheese enchis, a chalupa, and a puffy taco. Their rice and beans are solid, not the best, but I have no problem waxing ‘em off. They also have a weekend brunch that looks consistently crowded… our family is giving it a go next weekend so I’ll post a tip! Beware: towards dusk, the birds party in the trees of the parking lot. LOTS of birds. So check the pavement for bird poo stains before you park your car or you’ll be sorry!
