I have done really well on the plan at New Dimensions. I worked with Dr. Sabowitz. But after about three months, I stopped going. I continue to follow the plan but I felt that continuing to go was a waste of money. Pros: 1)The plan is very easy to follow and works(I’ve lost 18 pounds and counting) 2) Dr. Sabowitz checks blood and other things to be sure you are healthy enough to participate 3) The meetings had some good information 4) The cost of the program was pretty inexpensive($ 85 for visits with labs, $ 45 for just visits which includes your weekly meetings) 5) The staff is incredibly nice Cons: 1) Dr. Sabowitz is not an encouraging person. After the first meeting, he would come in and continually make notes while I was talking, never making eye contact and not really asking any questions. When I lost weight, he wouldn’t congratulate me and when I didn’t lose, he wouldn’t encourage me. He simply came in, looked things over, wrote some prescriptions and said he’d see me in a month. At one point I told him I had found a cheaper protein shake at Costco(he’s said all along he doesn’t care if you use their products) and he nearly came undone. I just felt like it was a waste of time and money every time I saw him after the initial visit. 2) There is no insurance filing at this office. If your insurance covers this service, you have to self-file. 3) They really would like you to attend a weekly meeting. I enjoyed the meetings but after a few months of driving in traffic to make the 5:30 time, it just couldn’t do it anymore. If you missed a meeting, there was no way to get the information later; no handouts, or email follow up. I would still, and in fact have, recommended this program and this doctor to friends. I still think it’s a sound program but I would encourage ND to consider a more attentive, reasonable way to implement the meetings and the visits. This is a time when we have technology at our fingertips, there’s no reason the meetings can’t be held online since the reality is that Dr. Sabowitz doesn’t really interact with the attendees anyway. Each person could have a code to get in and watch at a time that is convenient for him or her. I would also say, don’t expect much encouragement from Dr. Sabowitz. He’s a nice enough guy but he really doesn’t get personally involved with his patients and you can pretty much forget about a pep talk.
