I work on the southeast side of town so when my co-workers mentioned wanting seafood for lunch, Unilocal brought us here. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but charming. A waitress came to take our drink order and when we asked for a few minutes to look over the menu it felt like we were forgotten about. We ended up having the flag down another server who took our order. One of my coworker’s along with me, ordered the Matey Marc, which is 2 pieces of fried fish and 2 fried shrimp. We both agreed the shrimp was delicious, I could have just eaten that and felt satisfied. The fish on the other hand was very mediocre, not much flavor and I’m sorry but who serves a plate of fish without lemon on the side? My coworker hated the fish and didn’t take another bite. My other coworker ordered the grilled tilapia which she reported was really good. If I ever come back here I’ll opt for that but I left unimpressed overall.

The seafood here is excellent. Get here at 11am because that is when they open and it gets crowded for lunch. I recommend the combination #1 two fried cod pieces, two shrimp and two oysters with fries and cole slaw.

I just can’t help being a homey about this place. I’ve been coming here since it opened, two locations ago. It has hands-down the best fried fish in town. They use long fillets of cold-water fish. In addition, they serve great shrimp, oysters, catfish, fried mushrooms and chicken fried steak. One of the owners are always on-site, either Janine or Kenny, and they’ll make sure everything is good about your meal. They do a big business in to-go orders, often their family-size meals. A 10-piece order is only $ 15 and you can even order it to eat there. There’s nothing like driving home with a hot, steamy box of Neptune’s fish. Their tartar sauce is homemade, along with their excellent gumbo. And a lot of other things that most places order from the food trucks. There’s no beating the friendly service that comes with the freshly-made food. You’re generally greeted as soon as you enter and your drinks will arrive in no time. There’s a wide selection of side dishes available with any plate and a few tasty appetizers. The décor is classic fish place, a collection of odd objects on the walls. You’ll normally sit in the ‘back’ where you park in their private lot. They offer a selection of beer. As I said, I love this place and still occasionally find something new to try on the menu. It’s inexpensive and fast.

Ahhh Neptunes… the southeast side’s answer to Rudy’s and Gyro’s on the south side. Food here is cheap. My waitress, who was battling laryngitis, did a great job of serving me regardless. The shrimp aren’t jumbo like the kind served at either Gyro’s, Rudy’s or Sea Island but the fish is awesome. You can’t go wrong with the inexpensive price tag either. And even better, Tony Chachere’s Cajun seasoning is available at your table.

I would expect good seafood when going to a seafood restaurant. However, my fish was completely overcook. Me and my friend was the only diner at the restaurant so I expected my seafood to cook good at least. Friend got the chicken fried steak and that was average. The wait staff was friendly but that isn’t enough to make up for the poor food. Maybe I just had a bad chef but I will not be giving this place another try to see if there is a difference

I’ve been going I this place since my parents moved in the area in the 80’s. They have moved locations from, which is now Kenny’s Burgers(which they own), to the location they are now(next door to Pizza Hut). If you like fresh fried fish, oysters, yummy fried mushrooms, crinkled French fries, homemade coleslaw, frog legs(yup! They have ‘em), and damn good tasty homemade tarter sauce AND you want to put your money into the local seafood business — then go here. They got the friendliest service, a television always on(especially when The Spurs play), a nice laid back atmosphere, and it smells so good when you walk in. I recommend getting one of the family dinners. Ten pieces of fried fish, 4 rolls, plate full of French fries, and ½ dozen of lemons for less than $ 11! Start w some fried mushrooms and ask for the dipping sauce. Great cheap seafood, nice owners(that are there nightly), and tasty food. You can’t beat that.

I don’t eat seafood but wanted to treat family members who do. I ended up leaving a bit embarrassed. I had taken some family to eat there and they didn’t enjoy it. I had a hamburger and it was the flattest thing which is to be expected from a place that only caters to seafood, but will defintely not return. Wasn’t worth it.
