This is a great little park with 2 playgrounds, one for small children and the other for bigger kids. It has a walking path with exercise stations and benches. There are tables with mosaic inlays some with chess/checker board patterns(bring your own pieces) and it is close to the farmer’s market and several medical facilities. So as cute as this park is it does have quite a number of homeless who hang out. Of the many times I’ve come here I’ve never been accosted but disheveled men talking to imaginary people, so near your children can be unnerving. Also there are no water fountains or restrooms and the parking can be tough but on quiet days it’s manageable.

Full of bums! Well then again so is this entire area and the cops just let them sleep wherever they please. So sad they allow this at this park and in this neighborhood!

This park is pretty cool! It has a play area for kids to run off some energy. Benches scattered throughout so parents are able to take a load off while the kiddos play, and the best part of all… If you’re seated just right, across the street is the Children’s Hospital which is home to a giant mosaic piece by local artist Jesse Trevino, called The Spirit of Healing. It is an inspiring piece. Each time I’ve been in this area it’s a must that I sit for a moment to enjoy this amazing work of art. I’ll gladly admit that this was also a stop on a tour of SA that a handsome gentleman took me on for our first date. Both the handsome gentleman and the over 150,000 piece mosaic are 5 stars in my book. :-) In this part of town and very near this park is Market Square, as well a Big Bob’s Burgers. All these should be enjoyed and visited if you’re in this area.

Beautiful small park close to the alamo. There isn’t much in terms of free parking but it was clean and quiet. Great place for a race.

Dangerous at dark, but a nice spot for lunch — here’s why: This park is close to a few take-out food places, and it gets a nice balance of sun and shade. There are B-Cycle bikes and two VIA stops here, so it is a useful stopping and starting point. There is plenty of seating space, and a playground if you have children. This is a homeless hot spot, though, so watch out in the early AM and after dusk!

This is seriously one of my favorite parks in San Antonio. Milam is a unique park, a definetley urban park & I believe a nice glimpse of San Antonio culture. Milam is situated in an interesting spot on one side there is a luxury high rise, to the other a bustling hospital, to the other a vibrant market, mercado & it’s last side is a stop for the cities trolley’s. You can thus imagine the scene if you will at Milam. A young entrepreneur from across the street walking his dog, the tourists taking a break from the sounds of the market, a druggie getting released from the hospital or elderly couple waiting for the trolley. It’s a colorful scene for people watching. Milam has a great playground with several jungle gyms & swings. There is a trail that borders the park that doubles as a dog walking trail with several spots with doggie bags. In the center of Milam is a massive gazebo. It is usually overrun by various people of the homeless nature catching a siesta, but they have never bothered me or my daughter. There are also beautiful sculptures throughout the park telling of TX history. You usually find at least one vender selling ice cream & drinks, pushing around a cart or ice chest. During Fiesta Milam literally becomes home to several people, who camp there for good spots for the parades. My favorite times at Milam were bringing my daughter there & catching the most unusual conversations with the passerby’s. Great place to take a walk, people watch & kill some time with the kids.

After being disappointed by the Market Square/El Mercado area I was looking around for other cool stuff. Luckily I was able to find this gem of a park. It has a beautiful gazebo in the middle and a statue of Benjamin Rush Milam. There is a small playground for the kiddos and a decent running path around the edge. What can I say I’m a sucker for nice parks.
