Love this place! Me encanta! At first when you come in the nice chill vibe hits you with some funky Latin music that makes you dance a little as you are greeted by Edgar in a very friendly way inviting you to come in and choose your spot. Once we sat we got the menus and we where very impressed by the variety of drinks, we ordered the nahua topochico and La Reina(both where delicious). Then we ordered some snacks: the chicharrones and the queso fundido with chorizo, both where very good and they have some salsa valentina! Yummy! At this point I wanted to try something more and I went with the prickly pear margarita(Edgar the guy that was bartending said they make the syrups themselves!!!) and my husband ordered the Tlaloc, very good and flavorful margarita and drink, we where not disappointed at all. We closed the night with 2 shots of tequila Milagro añejo and once again I was impressed, the presentation was awesome. This is a one of a kind place that exceeded my expectations every time I ordered something! Will be back!!!

Good and friendly staff; if a drink you want isn’t on the menu, Edgar or Sam can make it happen, and are knowledgeable enough to come up with new combos based on your mood or tastes. Drinks are made with care and flare, and can take a bit more time as a result. Food is always enjoyable, interior Mexican with twists.

I’ve been here 3 – 4 times. Previously I probably would’ve given them 4 stars but my last visit was a very frustrating experience and the food unappealing. But first I will say the Nopalito cocktail is fabulous! I highly recommend this earthy green delight. I do recommend you ask them to go a bit lighter on the celery bitters. I can’t stand mezcal since it tastes like tequila blended with band-aides. I know it’s trendy right now and I can’t wait for that to pass. But that’s OK because they also have a great tequila selection here, which I love. Overall I’ve had a feeling of sluggish service in this joint but not like this last visit. It was a VERY slow night with only a few other guests. My glass was EMPTY when the waitress brought my tablemate her drink but didn’t bother to ask if I wanted anything else. I had to stop her as she was walking away. Another time she cruised right on by with my glass empty and I had to stop here. WTF? Do you not want to be helpful or do you just not like me? On one order about 20 min had gone by before realizing I still didn’t have my drink. And the place is dead slow. I also was now more aware the waitress had been standing at the other table talking to them for at least 10 min. I look up and the bartender is still talking to the one lone patron seated bar. Both doing nothing essentially. So I get up and walk to the bar. The waitress sees me and looks at me blankly and I ask about my drink. She jumps up and goes to the bar to get it. Ok… So she forgot. But the bartender had made the drink and let it sit there in front of him while doing nothing. He should’ve said«Yo… Come get your drink girl». Clearly customer service just isn’t something that occurs to the staff here. The waitress did apologize and attempted to make up for it by coming to our table every 7 min to ask if we wanted something, which was actually annoying and made the experience worse. The only thing I ordered that night was guacamole. Bland. No serrano. No salt. No citrus. No onion I could detect. But I was tasting something odd and realized it was a bit creamy both in texture and flavor. So I asked if it had sour cream and the waitress says it does. What? The Mixtli theme is traditional Mexican flavors. Sour cream in guacamole is definitely a Caucasian bastardization born state side and not Mexican at all. It’s just bad. It should never happen at a decent restaurant. She tells me they do it because it keeps it from browning. You know what else does? Making it fresh. Not blending a bucket full at at time to make that overly smooth paste. The other cocktail I had was OK but the execution isn’t what I expect from a crafty cocktail sort of place. It was served in a flute, which I’m already prejudiced against. It had a mint leaf cluster stuffed in the top covering the entirety of the small opening and a larger soda style straw sticking out. Drink a cocktail from a flute in a soda straw? That’s dumb. Yet not sippable with the bush floating there. I used the straw to dunk the bush and set the straw aside. Better. My friend ordered one also. It came in a flute also with no straw and an orange slice for a garnish(which I didn’t get). No mint like mine. What? Basically two different cocktails yet called the same made 10 min apart. [eye roll]

Coming to Mezcaleria was long over due, I felt that the proposal was good, the items on the menu matched the décor, nothing pretentious here. Service was good to begin, but had major deficiencies as the meal progressed. I’m all about community tables and sharing plates, after all the fast casual chef restaurants are here to stay and not going anywhere. But there is a lot to be said when the execution does not meat expectations. This party began to expire very quickly, first round in and neither the bartender nor the waiter were anywhere to be found, 45 minutes later no refills and no food, they were too busy tending to what seemed to be their buddies. Let’s face it, I wasn’t in a hurry but when all we are doing is looking around and no one notices that’s when the problem begins. Finally the order arrives, scratch that, one of the plates arrives, and no silverware, so we wait some more, by the time our second plate arrives(I’ll call it course for the sake of not sounding like I’m being hypercritical) loud silverware managed to make it to the table, our first offering was cold now, and the progression of plates flowed, half of them were wrong and they silly mismanaged our meal. The food was good, I liked the flavors. The drinks were meh, I’ll stick to a cold beer. Honestly I can’t say I won’t be back, but maybe I’ll wait until the staff matures and they truly find their ways.

We made plans to try this place for dinner and drinks in late December. We arrived and ordered a drink. When they came out with our drinks they informed us that the kitchen had closed early. This was really upsetting since we had specifically cane for dinner. They told us when it is slow they close the kitchen early. If you are planning on coming here make sure to call ahead to see if they are planning on «closing the kitchen.» What really made me mad was seeing kitchen staff standing around the kitchen entrance doing nothing. I think it is poor business to just decide to close early. My recommendation: don’t bother wasting your time.

My new favorite place. I visited them on a Thursday night and was pleasantly surprised by a full bar with just one seat left, perfect for me. The bartenders, Edgar and Sam, we’re both great, super friendly and took the time to educate me on mezcal. I’m personally more of a whiskey drinker that doesn’t like sweet drinks, Edgar made me something like an old fashioned with tequila and mizcal, it was amazing! I had a couple other drinks which I can’t name because they were in the process of making a new cocktail menu and hadn’t come up with names yet. All of my drinks were incredible and I’ve been jonesin’ for mezcal ever since. Food: Esquites — delicious corn dish with the right amount of creaminess and flavor, addicting! Carnitas de Puerco — very delicious pulled pork with tortillas and a couple different salsas to try. I can’t wait to go back and take all my visitors, I’m a huge fan of this place!

This little Mezcaleria is exactly what San Antonio needs more of! The atmosphere is really relaxed but still cute, the drinks are STELLAR and well researched, and the food is simple yet delicious. This is the perfect place to take friends and out of towners for a sophisticated and casual taste of San Antonio. Definitely get the helote!

We stopped in for cocktails. This is a great venue. It’s small. The service is excellent. The drinks are unique. The concentration is on mezcal and tequila. We looked at the food menu, too. It looks unique and well planned. We will be back soon for food. This is a good addition to the city.

My wife and I meet up with a couple of friends here for dinner and drinks. It was a Saturday evening about 8:30 or so and there was plenty of places for us to sit. It has a dim atmosphere perfect for a date night. Noise level was perfect for holding a conversation with your guest and not having to raise our voices. Service was great! Our waitress was very attentive as well as the bar manager(I think she was the bar manager). The food was very good as well. Portion sizes could easily feed two people if you all are not starving. The drinks are pretty stout but tasty. A little pricey but the overall experience was worth it in my opinion since we all had a great time.

Awful customer service. The drinks were acceptable(nothing to call home about) and terribly overpriced. I went on a Friday night and the place was not very busy – we ordered fruta con chile & corn but they never came, even after we followed up with the server. I asked for water and I never got it. Nor did anyone offer us another drink. I wouldn’t go back if someone payed me nor would I recommend anyone visit this establishment.

I’m so glad we discovered this hidden gem! The watermelon Margarita was really good, and the corn«botana» with Mexican mayo, chili powder and Cotija cheese was delicious! What really stood out was the ambience. It’s a cozy, classy bar with a modern vibe and a Mexican twist. I can’t wait to return and try out the rest of the menu!

Yawza, this place services some strong drinks. I came here with a female friend, she is the Margarita type of girl, so the first drink she ordered is the Watermelon Margarita, and it was bit strong for her. So she switched to Mojito which she really liked and enjoyed two more. I ordered the Amatepec, it was very good drink. But since I need to drive, so I only had one, and to my surprise, they also have a good craft beer selection, so I got the Karbach Wheat beer, which was perfect to end the night with. Overall, strong drinks and great bartender, a relaxing place to take your date to, just make sure the person can handle the drinks because they are strong.

Give me a second y’all, I’m going to try to write this without my mouth watering. What I love about this place is they’ve got a great concept of who they are and what they’re trying to do — and what’s even better is that they’re doing it all fabulously. Think refreshing Mexican spirits, delicious cuisine, and a warm, bright atmosphere. Mezcaleria has unique cocktails, a tasty menu that reflects the passion they put into their food, and excellent service which was really just la cereza on top of an all-around great dining experience. My guests and I shared the esquires(spicy, citrusy, creamy goodness) and the vegetarian-friendly hongos con queso(mushrooms and oaxaca cheese). The green and red sauce plus the homemade tortillas took the dish to a whole new level. The margaritas were spot on, our server was attentive and friendly, and the whole vibe of the place was inviting and relaxing. Whether you’re looking for a snazzy happy hour joint, an intimate pre-date drinks spot, or you just want to try some buzz worthy cocktails and cuisine, I highly recommend Mezcaleria!

Great drinks! I haven’t had the pleasure of trying their food yet, but hopefully next time if I get there early. That’s the only thing I wish they had tapas or appetizers after ten in order to be munching and drinking. Their chamoy drink with Mezcal is great, not on the menu but if you ask they will create!

I’ll admit, I have been counting down the days until Mezcaleria Mixtli opened. Ever since I read an article stating that the owners were aiming for an Aviary style concept, I was sold and excited at how close this was to my home! I’ve been meaning to check out Mixtli, the restaurant, for such a long time. I guess I made the mistake of going for their grand opening, I’m not sure what I was expecting but I didn’t like what I ended up with. A grand opening is supposed to be a first impression, when a business puts their best foot forward. This was unfortunately not the case with this grand opening. I knew it would be busy, so I’ll give them a pass on how crowded it was, but they did not have adequate support staff for their bartenders. It took me about 20 minutes to order a drink, never being acknowledged even though I was sitting at the bar. During the 10 minutes that I waited for my cocktail to be crafted, I was able to take in the bar itself. It really is a nice, quaint space but not the space that was designed to hold the crowd that was there for the grand opening. I went with La Capirucha, which they considered their«signature cocktail» and was ready to be blown away. I ended up overpaying for my cocktail because there was some sort of disconnect between the person that manages their Facebook page & events and the staff that was actually working that night. The Facebook event stated that their signature cocktail would be $ 7 to celebrate their grand opening. I’ll be honest, that was why I chose it, because I wanted to test out the water before I went for a higher priced cocktail. Well, when the bartender told me that my tab would be $ 19 for the cocktail and a $ 5 beer, I was a little taken aback. I ended up just paying because I thought maybe I had made a mistake ordering the wrong cocktail. After pulling up the Facebook event and triple checking that I wasn’t going crazy(because honestly what management doesn’t communicate specials to their staff?) I finally spoke to the bar manager. I told him what happened, he was incredibly rude and dismissive and told me «I’ll take care of it». I sat around for another 20 – 30 minutes, drinking my drink and talking to friends. I was kind of shocked with how he pretty much ignored me for the rest of the night, I was sitting in front of him, with an empty glass and he never asked if I wanted another and definitely didn’t fix his bartender’s screw up. I guess the part that really irked me was how many people unknowingly paid double the advertised special price for a cocktail? As for La Capirucha itself, it was okay. Nothing to write home about, but maybe my taste buds were turned off by my experience with the bar staff. I guess the lesson to be learned here is just because owners can try to evoke the spirit and creativity of Grant Achatz, doesn’t mean that it can be executed with the same professionalism and fluidity. I’m open to coming back and giving Mezcaleria Mixtli a second chance because I really did want to like it and hope that a few months from now they’ll have worked out the kinks.

Guess I won’t jump on the mixtli bandwagon. Don’t mean to be a hater but I’m not feeling it! I had wanted to try mixtli but decided to wait out a bit because Mexican cuisine had never been one of my favorites. Saw they opened a bar recently with some food offerings. That sounded intriguing as I could at least sort of get a feel of what mixtli is about. So I came with my friend on a Sunday night. It was super slow. The ambiance is nice and the bar is sleek so I thought we were off to a good start. My friend wanted to challenge me eating crickets. So she asked them about it. We were offered some fried crickets and worms right way. I only wish that attentiveness could continue but it was actually a disappointing night which I’ll explain in details later. I ate a cricket, no problem! They had never challenged me as I ate scorpions in first grade. It was the worms that made me cringe a bit. Finally I was like what the heck so I tried one. That was a fun experience and definitely highlight of the night. We ordered two watermelon margaritas which were not bad. I liked the presentation and the hard candy that came with it. No compliant there. Service went downhill from there. They never came to check on us once even though the establishment was almost empty. Maybe they thought ppl didn’t wanna be bothered at a bar. But we ordered plates so some level of service would be appreciated. Besides the slow service, I wasn’t particularly a fan of the food. We ordered the hongo con queso aka mushroom with cheese and a beef dish b/c they were out of the tinga, carnitas, and mole. I also got us small bowls of peanuts, pork cracklings and corn which were about $ 5 each. The mushroom dish was good but the beef dish was not. Both portions were small. Overall nothing was memorable. The peanuts were raw which was a bit odd to me. The pork cracklings were just pork cracklings. It was chips but made of fried pork skin which you can get it anywhere in this town. The corn was good but still it was corn, nothing special. They were just average Mexican bites delivered in an overpriced fashion IMO. I’d like to comment a bit more on the beef dish I forgot the name of. It says steak and bacon on the description. I even asked the server to explain it. He never mentioned cheese and said it would have an egg on top. When the dish was brought out, it had cheese in it and no egg on top. Also it was more like grounded pork other than«steak». I was baffled as I specifically asked about the dish before ordering it. They said this dish would always come with cheese. But why didn’t they list it on the description just as for the rest of the dishes that had cheese in them? It might come as a surprise but not everybody lives in this town is Mexican so you can’t expect me to know which dish has cheese and which doesn’t. Anyways they said they could make one without cheese and took the dish back to re-make it. When we got it, it wasn’t good. The meat was dry. So that’s $ 14 down the drain. But nobody had asked about it or cared if we were enjoying our food. Bill came out to be over $ 60 for just a few tiny plates. And I still left a 20% tip despite the lack of service. Am I happy? No. Will I go back? Definitely no.

Not sure what this space was before MM moved in, but the re-do works quite well. Bright airy setting with over a dozen spots at the bar, and a few tables nicely spaced out; not sure if the outside chairs are for waiting or smokers. The selection of mostly mezcal/tequila based cocktails is quite good; other spirits available as well, as is a nice selection of Texas beers(bottles, no taps) and about a dozen spanish and mexican wines. From the food selection would heartily endorse the rajas and choriqueso. Would have to say our favorite cocktails on this visit were the Nopalito and Beso. Negroni week was going on and their mezcal based take was great as well. There’s an amazing selection of mezcals available, only wish they were able to offer a sampler variety as an introduction for folks not as aware of this most interesting spirit. Bartenders and server were friendly and knowledgeable

Amazing new bar/restaurant in Olmos Park! I have tried the Paloma and Sandia(Watermelon) Margarita(which I got during happy hour between 5 – 7 pm weekdays for $ 5!) and they are delicious cocktails! Price range for cocktails outside of happy hour are $ 9-$ 11. I have also tried a few shots of mezcal-and you should too! Complex flavor profiles! Offerings include texas craft beer and wines from Mexico. The space is very sleek and comtemporary. The staff are friendly and informative and are quick to offer suggestions. The Mezcaleria also has a food menu, including smaller dishes or ‘botanas’. I can’t wait to try all the things! Go check it out; you are sure to love it.
