My steak was slightly over cooked but not very much. A little tougher than my usual New York strip. The real reason for the 3 stars is that the services was not as great as I would have liked for my first time going there. When ordering out entrees she asked if we wanted a salad. We asked if we could substitute it for a soup(thinking it came with our meal) and she said yes we could. Being our first time here we did not know the soup and salad was extra and the waitress did not confirm with us that it was. When the ticket came and we asked her if the soup was extra she told us «The soups and salads are always extra». How were we suppose to just know this when she made it sound like it was included. I only got the soup and didn’t even eat it because I thought it was included. Needless to say since the service wasn’t all that great I will not be coming back.

I still love this place. I need to let everyone know about the French Dip, though. It is SO freaking good. I got it to-go last night, rare. I normally don’t dip sandwiches in au jus, but that au jus was the stuff! Get this sandwich asafp.

Love this place. I always order a $ 20 sandwich. And a $ 20 sandwich should be phenomenal, it is. I get the French dip sandwich and it is always perfect. Served rare, perfectly seasoned with a delicious au jus; I am a purist and get raw horseradish instead of the horseradish cream, and they are always happy to oblige. My husband and I usually split a salad to start and they are always gracious enough to serve it on 2 plates. The salad is fresh and the cilantro vinaigrette is really unique. They strive to provide great service and do a great job at that. My husband gets the chicken strips, well seasoned, properly breaded and served with a really tasty honey mustard. The Coleslaw it comes with is tasty, the chives really add to the flavor. Overall the food is consistent and the service is stellar.

OMG the service! It’s normal for a waiter to be nice and caring but today, our waiter was Superb! I loved everything he recommended and surprised us with complimentary dessert! My fish sandwich was cooked perfectly and their MacNCheese is to die for! The shrimp tacos are also really good! Had a great experience!

Our waiter here was fabulous which made our experience that much better. I had the ahi tuna salad which was pretty good. Not the best I’ve had but still good! They have your typical selection when it comes to your nicer American restaurant. We were recommended the Mac and cheese as a side though and that was a disappointment… It was really watery and not a good mac and cheese at all. All the other food we ordered was good though!

Another amazing dinner at J’s. Brought in an out of town client for dinner. We both had steaks, burgundy mushrooms, artichoke hearts and much more. This place never disappoints. It’s always my go to when I have special guests in town. Service was great as well, another reason J’s is my go to restaurant when I want to impress. Made sure my guest took a slice of carrot cake to warm up later.

Of course I found J. Alexanders on Unilocal!Decided to check it out for a late lunch/early dinner. Sat at the bar and had the best service ever from Daisy, bartender extraordinaire. She made me a Elder flower Mojito that was out of this world and my hubs got a perfect Capone(aka Manhattan). The menu has so may amazing dishes. We chose the Thai Salmon from the special menu that had the Bang Bang sauce, the Streak Brazzo w/mashed potatoes and the NYO Mac & Cheese. It was all so generous and so good. Daisy surprised us with a slice of carrot cake that we took home(updated review on that to follow but I’ve already read it’s amazing!!!) Going back soon to see Daisy again and try more JA dishes!

The food has never let me down when it comes to taste. However, the texture of my salad was not quite right as I was chewing, and came to find it was actually a screw i had been trying to chew up. The screw was something like a steel pan head sheet metal screw, and I thankfully only had minor scrapes on my gums. It was quite a shock, as I had a hard time imagining how a sheet metal screw ended up in my salad. But other than that issue, the filet mignon was cooked to perfection and smashed potatoes were incredible. I would recommend this restaurant for the taste of the food, but I would also suggest to check your plates for additional surprise ingredients. I will not be returning to this restaurant after that surprise, though.

FOODISDELISH!!! I had the strip steak with Mac and Cheese and an extra side of the Smashed Potatoes. The hostess and waitress for my table were quick, polite and courteous. There was a slight problem though. I was there celebrating my cousin’s birthday and his food came out incorrectly TWICE. James Rodriguez, one of the managers there came out after being requested and was very disrespectful, defensive and augmentative and only after realizing perhaps his approach was rude he offered to cover my cousin’s meal. That type of customer service was unacceptable so we requested to speak with another or a superior manager and at that time we spoke with Ray and Dan, two other Co-managers and they were very polite, courteous and even offered my cousin a gift card and apologized for the previous disrespect. Ray and Dan both displayed the type of customer service one would expect at this establishment. With the exception of James and the food being incorrect twice the experience was nice and the food tasted amazing!

J. A’s has been a special treat for me since I was in high school(that was over 10 years ago.) From being the spot for my 18th birthday and accommodating 15 or so high-schoolers graciously to special dates with my bff/gma — it has always treated me well. The largest standout to me is to how fancy pants the interior is without having a totally fancy pants priced menu. You can eat really well here and walk out probably spending less than you would at somewhere like Olive Garden. My favorite menu items include: Steak strip salad House burger + shoestring fries Mac n’ cheese The burger is crave-worthy after you try it. It’s enormous, juicy and cooked to your liking. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Food sucks. They ran out of featured dishes on St. Patty’s Day on, get this, the middle of Spring Break! Our waitress, Quanta, came to take our order and broke the news. Then the manager, Chief Wahoo, gave us some BS story that the best chef we’ve had in our 20 year history(although it’s only been opened 19 yrs) under ordered based on last year’s miserable sales! Bottom line– go to Piatti’s if you want good food. Go to J Alexander’s for some good BS when they run out of what you want. Better yet, skip this place.

Great ambiance. We sat for about ten minutes after being seated and out of nowhere multiple people from Alexander’s come over and apologize for how long it took. My wife and I had hardly noticed but they gave us free appetizers and free dessert. Speaking of dessert, you CANNOT go wrong with the key lime pie. But even more over the top is the carrot cake. Hands down the best we ever had. My wife had the prime rib which she said was excellent. And I had the steak burger which was also excellent. Appetizer was the deviled eggs which were good, not great. All in all 5 stars!!!

This place is a copy cat of Houston’s(now Barlett’s) in Austin, same ambiance, very similar food, same layout, but cheaper prices. Got the fried chicken with cole slaw and fries(what Barlett’s calls the flying chicken platter I think) and loved it. Will go again if I’m in SA.

Consistency defines J Alexander’s. I love the dark wood décor, impeccable service, and variety/quality of fare. Although the Quarry is a bit out of my way, I still try to make it over here occasionally to meet a friend for quality time. As for the three star rating… I came for what I thought would be Happy Hour one day recently and was told«we don’t have Happy Hour.» Wow. Just wow. If management reads this, please keep in mind that while you are a service entity in a high end part of town, your clientele still expects a whiff of appreciation. Do the right thing and add Happy Hour. C’mon, really? You’re so high-falutin’ that Happy Hour is below you? Again, wow. I am now conflicted…

Came here with a group of 8 we were seated at a round table and it was uncomfortable we basically had to maneuver to eat so we didn’t knock drinks and plates over. I ordered the crab cakes which were $ 40 for 2 and the«not your ordinary» Mac and cheese. The crab cakes were delicious full of meat and no filler. I probably wouldn’t order the Mac and cheese again it just tasted like they used Alfredo sauce. The staff was pleasant. I will most likely return to try some other things on the menu.

OMG! You can go here for lunch or take the wife out on a super hot date. Been here twice now and been spoiled by the outstanding service and quality of food. If this will be your first time, get the baby-back ribs or Chicago ribeye. Your welcome in advance.

Date night with the hubby and we chose to come here. First time and I can’t wait to go back. First of all, Bella was our waitress and she was fantastic! We ordered artichokes for our app. YUM! My hubby ordered the NY Strip. It came with the Mac and cheese. Both were amazing and the Mac and cheese was to die for. I’m a huge Mac and cheese fan. I had the cilantro shrimp with broccoli. The shrimp had a good flavor and seasoned so well. The broccoli was just as yummy and seasoned well. I also had to order a side of couscous. Delish! I’m hoping to be back soon

First timer. Started off slow and it seemed like forever for a waiter to come and take our drink and food orders. After we asked for our waiter, we started experiencing really great service and the food is delicious. I would definitely recommend this place but what turned me off was the lack of service in the beginning.

I walked in and was seated immediately. There was a nice buzz going on inside and couldn’t wait for the menus to see what was cookin today. I ordered the filet steak and my guest ordered the seared tuna. My steak was great, it was juicy on the inside and we’ll cooked on the outside. My guest truly loved his main course. I need to come back to try the other dishes and will update my review when that time comes.

Place was good. I got the steak Brazzo but got mac and cheese instead of the mashed potatoes. Overall, the food was good but the steak was overcooked and not sure it was worth the price. The queso was really good though and I loved the macaroni. Great wine selection too. I’ll go back again.

I have to admit that I wasn’t expecting such great service, but it was excellent. I was particularly parched, and our server was on top of it. My drink barley sat at half full before our server dropped another glass of tea on our table. My wife had an amazing NY Strip and I had the delicious Prime Rib.

I’ve been here on two special occasions, once for Mother’s Day and my most recent visit for my birthday. Seated immediately upon arrival. I absolutely love the quality of service and food. The ambiance is classy, quiet and the setting is very dimly lit. My husband ordered some crab cakes and I ordered a New York steak with mashed potatoes instead of the fancy thin french fries that went with the meal. We had a charismatic server that earned his tip even though he almost blurted out«sh!&» while almost spilling my wine. Lol. They offered to take a picture of our celebratory night out and went along with their business. We picked a movie and walked to the Quarry movie theater from there. Service and food was inpeccable, other then that it was a fairly uneventful night for us. They didn’t offer a piece of cake or drink for letting them know it was my birthday… didn’t look like they ever offer any kind of deals… ever, bummer!

Are here after the movies. The lunch menu was still available about 3 pm. We started with the deviled egg appetizer. Six halves. The yolk is mixed with some tasty seasonings and topped with applewood bacon crumbles. Quite tasty. This was a break from our usual salmon dip appetizer, which could be a meal on its own. I went with black drum sandwich and the husband had the emerald shrimp plate. My sandwich was just fine. Lightly breaded served on a toasted bun, shredded lettuce and a delightful dressing with fries. Would also be topped with pickles, but I asked to remove them. The shrimp plate was excellent. A platter full of lightly breaded fried shrimp WITHNOTAILS. How cool is that? Just pop them in your mouth. But don’t. They are the size of at least two bites. You’ll want to cut them in half first. Served with cole slaw and fries. An excellent choice. Yum.

This review is for dinner for two at the bar on Tuesday night. service Good service at the bar. Service is a hallmark of all J. Alexanders and this outlet is no exception. We find service at J. Alexanders to be very similar to Hillstone Restaurants(Houstons or Woodmont). Talented, polite, professional and knowledgeable wait staff working as a team. Oh, and sporting the Johnny Cash — dressed in black — vibe. The bar had a three person team and we enjoyed spectacular service. bar Only three craft beer selections on tap, but one was an IPA so I was happy. Plenty of well thought out wine selections. Very strong cocktail offerings. We watched a dozen various cocktails being assembled and the bar staff was very skilled. food Again, very similar to Hillstone Restaurants. Smallish menu with a handful of very well executed entrees. Appetizers are severely limited in choice, resulting in nothing we were interested in ordering. Steaks, burgers and fish are the stand out, go to items here. I ordered the pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes. The meat was cooked perfectly and served over a very well made sauce. My wife had the veggie burger with Israeli couscous. The veggie patty is huge and reasonably tasty. Could be spicier or more interesting, but it ain’t bad. The Israeli couscous is savory and OK. Bread would have been nice with my entrée, but it wasn’t offered. details Restaurant is stand-alone building on outskirts of a mall, so there is adequate parking. Restaurant interior is very nice — design, seating, lights, music and restrooms are all just great. It’s a very comfortable and inviting place to spend an evening.

Sat right down on a Saturday night around 6 pm. They have a great wine selection and our wait staff was very attentive. We both ordered the steak-n-frites which was delicious. Large cut of steak, and a very large helping of fries. Talk about my kind of meal! Pricing is pretty fair, $ 25 a plate. The nice thing is that sides come with your entrée which helps on overall cost. I stayed away from the Mac and cheese because of a few of the reviews I read. So sad because we all know how much i love good Mac and cheese. Maybe I’ll be brave next time. Pretty casual dinner, will be back again!

Tasty but a cheap knock off of Houstons. I was so excited to try this place because I see them everywhere and they have solid reviews. When I walked in I immediately thought this place is definitely inspired by Houstons which is one of my staples. Service was incredible and the waiter I had was so funny I forgot his name but he was very tall, big small, butterpecan skin African American. He was so helpful with the menu and led me to some options. Food I wanted a steak but couldn’t eat 10−12oz by myself and I was on business with no place to store it and I hate wasting food. He suggested an off menu Filet Mignon that was 5oz, I was game! I started with their house salad that was really good but the salad dressings lacked pizazz. I had the Champagne vinaigrette, ranch, and their version of Thousand Island on the side. They were all just ok. Entrée Filet Mignon– It was ok but I have had better from Flemings, Ruth Chris and Houstons. It was good but nothing special. Beets-Phenomenal they had bits of goat cheese and candied pecans, incredible!!! All in all it was good but I probably wont come back.
