The food was decent, the breakfast tacos were, blah, the soup was really good, and the cinnamon bun was amazing. Kind of hit or miss. The wait can be a little long. We waited 30 minutes for a table during a non-busy time. I would never go here on a weekend for breakfast. Location is really beautiful! Sit outside if you can. Has a nice New Orleans feel to it.

I’d definitely consider Guenther House a gem of San Antonio. Everything about it creates an entire experience– from the food, to the service, to the atmosphere. The entire property is lovely and great to enjoy in sunny weather. Don’t let the long wait time turn you off, the time goes rather quickly when you can walk through the house, visit the shop, and sit outside enjoying the scenery. The service is nice and efficient whether you’re eating outside or inside, but eating inside really is unbeatable– and I love a good patio! You can’t go wrong with a cinnamon roll or pancakes, and probably anything else on the menu. And if you’re a potato fan like myself– there’s are AMAZING. I could eat a whole plate of those alone! All-in-all I would say that visiting the Guenther House will really take your time in San Antonio to the next level. Treat yourself with a morning spent experiencing something truly unique!

Excellent Breakfast spot. Went on a Friday morning. Had to wait 45 min. for a table, but not a bad wait at all. They had free coffee, Founders Choice blend which has hazelnut and cinnamon flavors, and the grounds were really enjoyable to wait in. Four of us ate for about $ 25. Kids got a cinnamon bun to split, plenty there to split, wife ordered one too, which I helped with, and I got the biscuits and gravy. All food was spectacular. Picked up a couple more pastries at the counter to take back for the next morning. Waitstaff was friendly and prompt.

Great place to bring family or friends. Food is delicious, biscuits are very good. The outdoor patio is fantastic, as is the inside dining area. Beautiful location but expect a looong wait if you don’t get there early. They have a few breakfast menu items; always ask what the special of the day is.

I really enjoyed the biscuits and gravy. Yummy with a nice variety of fresh fruit, no cheap melon fruit cup here!

Everything was awesome. Seeing was lovely, service was outstanding and food was spectacular. Must try their pastries. The cinnamon roll mind blowing and big enough for 2 to 4 to share. I had their quiche with fruit and it was great. My husband had biscuits and gravy; which were very good. We sat outside and the weather was beautiful. They don’t take reservations so go early and when you are not in a rush. You can walk around and through museum and store while waiting or sit and relax on outside seating area.

The food is good, but the menu is very limited. There are too many places in San Antonio to eat breakfast to choose this place.

Crazy San Antonio treat. We are in town visiting family and we all ate here. Cool historical old building with the still operating flour mill next door. There is a museum inside, dining, and the bakery. Outdoor seating is gorgeous, and is where we sat. It takes a bit of time to get seated, but understandably so. So no big deal. I kept staring at people’s orders trying to figure out what to get. It all looks friggin delicious. I personally got a spinach salad with chicken and Monterey cheese. Everyone else got different things. Its fresh, tasty food. which was very appealing to the eye. On our way out we snagged a cinnamon roll and a cookie from the bakery— best cinnamon roll we’ve had in a long time. The cookie was great also! Ibe got lots of pictures, don’t drool on your phone.

Stopped by for brunch today with my friends and girlfriend after attending the Uribe wedding yesterday and I have to say the food was scrumptious. The waiter that served our table was beyond helpful and provided us with the specials of the day that were not on the menu. The regular sweet tea is delicious and refreshing as it comes with a mint leaf for the extra fresh«kick». The scenery is beautiful and is right on the edge of the river walk. It’s a short drive right outside of downtown San Antonio. They also provide free coffee while you wait. The wait time is generally about 30 – 45 minutes but my rule of thumb is always that good food and good service are worth the wait and you’ll find that at Guenther House!

Guenther House is a great place for visitors and San Antonians alike to enjoy breakfast and brunch near the river, although it comes at a price. We stopped in on Valentine’s Day morning for a lovely breakfast out on their patio, and the weather was just perfect! We were seated right away because we came pretty early(around 8:30) but it filled up quickly as the morning went on. I ordered the waffles after seeing so many pretty pictures of them, and I wasn’t disappointed. I received a standard sized thick waffle topped with strawberries and whipped cream. The waffle had a great flavor on its own and I barely needed any of the syrup. I asked for fruit as a substitute for the meat side, and they were happy to accommodate without charging extra(thank you!). The coffee was pretty standard and something I would skip the next time around. I prefer the coffee at Magnolia. I also thought the price of the entire breakfast was a bit(okay a LOT) high for what I ordered… especially since the waffle mix is sold in the store and I could make it at home for a fraction of the price. My husband’s platter was much more reasonably priced for what he received, although still on the high side. I did enjoy the atmosphere of the patio, and it was nice to peek inside the rooms and the store for a bit. I’m not a fan of crowds however, and if you aren’t either, make sure you visit the store and museum early or on a slow day. The halls and rooms are quite small and you’ll run into someone every time you turn around. Overall I’m glad I visited this historic place and I think it’s a good spot for visitors, but it’s not a place I’ll return to often.

Have to admit, this was an awesome treat!!! Located on the river, offers indoor and outdoor seating. Staff were friendly and helpful. The museum on the property is a nice exploration before or after a meal. Expect texas size biscuits and of course it’s pioneer ’ s own recipes. Can’t wait to go back in the summer/fall.

My favorite was the mini blueberry muffins that we got along with the rolls before we ordered. It was confusing because I saw chicken and waffle option on Unilocal but I did not see it on their menu. Our waitress didn’t mention it to us either so we just thought they change their menu. Only until after we ordered that I noticed the guy at the table next to us is eating chicken and waffle. WHAT?! :O My order was the breakfast tacos with the pioneer potato option. It was okay, not great, not bad. Just okay. For a 1 ½ hours wait, it was not worth it. I won’t be coming back. :/

My family and I enjoyed a breakfast here before strolling through the King William district. The service and food were fantastic. The location also provided a wonderful backdrop to our sightseeing through the historical destinations of San Antonio. I will surely done here during my best trip to San Antonio.

Waited over a hour for poor service and below average food. Famous enchiladas tasted as if they were covered in butter, and broccoli cheddar soup was so thick it was inedible. Do yourself a favor– tour the grounds and neighborhood, but skip the food here. Head to Pearl Brewery for much better food options!

My wife and I came to San Antonio for Valentines day weekend. We were staying by the riverwalk and wanted to find a good place to grab some breakfast on Sunday morning. We woke up surprisingly early, and after looking at some other reviews decided that the Guenther House was the place to go. First of all, the location is awesome. It was a beautiful walk from the riverwalk. The houses were cool and walking along the river we saw all sorts of birds, ducks, and other people. If it were up to us to do again, we would grab breakfast at McDonalds and then walk to the Guenther House and back. Outside of the restaurant and around the river is absolutely beautiful. The scene and coolness of the house was worth keeping this from being a 1-star review. When we arrived, we were quickly seated inside(we luckily beat the rush). We were served quickly but the service was quite curt. We both got coffee and ordered. The coffee was luke warm for the first cup, and inside it was really too loud to have a good conversation. I got Biscuits and Gravy with a side of bacon and my wife got the waffle. Mine came out stone cold and the wife’s was just luke warm. The food was totally fine, but nothing to rave about. I seriously don’t understand the rave reviews. The waffles were just waffles and the biscuits were OK. The bacon was hard and seemed like it had sat out for a while before we got it. This was very strange, as I mentioned we beat the rush. At any rate, next time we’re in San Antonio, we won’t be back.

First time here I went around 9am. Got seated immediately outside. Excellent service. Enjoyed the breakfast platter! Second time I went around 11am. Much busier but still got seated immediately. Enjoyed the strawberry waffles. Food takes a long time to come out but worth it! Would recommend!

Tell me why this place is better than magnolia pancake haus. I’m sorry but the waffles at the Guenther are far more superior than any other breakfast place in San Antonio. Another thing I would recommend here at Guenther is their bacon. It’s so Crispy but a light crispy with a hints of flavor. You can tell the bacon is premium. The cinnamon rolls are really good as well. Also, alot of locals don’t like the breakfast tacos here, but I really do. I mean they’re not the taqueria tortilla but if I would recommend one it would be the potato and egg :-)

We met for brunch here on a weekend girls trip. We waited about 40 minutes for a table since it was a busy weekend. Coffee and water were available while you wait. We walked through the museum and gift shop. We admired the gingerbread house on display and took group pictures while we waited to be seated. I ordered the chicken and waffles with a side of biscuits and gravy to share. We ordered a round of fresh squeezed orange juice. Atmosphere was cozy and inviting. Waffles were amazing!

What a surprise to have found this place! It was half museum half restaurant with a beautiful patio that you can enjoy your brunch on. We ended up getting a very generous portion of the biscuits and gravy and the special of the day — meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and a salad. After our lunch we walked off our meal by walking along the river. A great place to rewind and enjoy a delicious southern brunch/lunch!

San Antonio wasn’t swarming with Sunday brunch options but when I saw the reviews, it was worth getting out of bed for. We arrived at 10 am and sat outside on the terrace by 10:30 which gave us enough time to tour the grounds, see the mini museum and purchase a little souvenir. Once seated, they had the heaters running and supplied each of us with a blanket to keep away the morning chill. I will say I was quite impressed with the sweet taste of the coffee and only added a drop of creamer to enjoy the flavors. Being that I’m from Memphis, I was skeptical of the biscuits & gravy but I couldn’t resist– and it was delicious! Perfect blend of spice from the sausage and butter from the biscuit to make this dish a winner. My boyfriend had the breakfast tacos and paired with the breakfast potatoes– it was our first Mexican breakfast success! Definitely a must see for an easy morning meal.

Everyone says, Go to the Guenther House for a great brunch or lunch, they are not wrong! It will be a bit of a wait but we got lucky and only had to wait 15 minutes for a mid-week brunch. There is plenty to look at while you wait during the holidays with the huge gingerbread house and Christmas tree, many of the rooms are highly decorated also. The value was very good as you get a huge breakfast for your money! I easily could have shared my breakfast, I got two very large biscuits, 2 sausage patties, fruit w/grapes, orange, watermelon, pineapple and strawberries. sausage gravy, jelly. I ordered an egg on the side! Everything was delicious! Perfect even!

Really cute. But be prepared to wait. And wait. I came around 9:30am on a weekday and there were already many people ahead of us. For a party of 2, the estimated wait time was 45 mins to an hour. Pretty crazy right? The actual wait time was probably around 30 mins. The staff know that his place is popular so they are incredibly efficient. Their process of getting you in and out is seamless. And there are things to do while you wait. Since Guenther is situated in historic downtown, waiting outside is a wonderful option. The décor is downright adorable. The San Antonio river runs along the side of the restaurant and there is plenty of great outdoor seating. There are large wagons with free coffee(decaf and regular) and water for those waiting to get into the restaurant. There is also a gift shop to browse. Many people pose for photos outside because it is so scenic. The restaurant itself is really cute. It is actually a large old house so there are many tables and it doesn’t feel crowded at all. Once we were escorted in and given menus, our waiter arrived and quickly placed our drink orders. The coffee was ok but they refilled my cup constantly. Always a plus for me. I ordered chicken and waffles and a half order of the biscuits and gravy. The chicken and waffles were pretty good. I think their waffles are very tasty and I loved the little ball of butter and the syrup. The chicken was well flavored and tender. The biscuits were a bit lacking. They were too dense and the flavor not that great. I also wish the gravy was piping hot. It was a bit cold when it got to me. The pastries in the display case didn’t look too appealing so we skipped on those. All in all — pretty solid. The wait(and drive) is kind of a deal breaker for me. It’s kind of touristy and the food not super special enough for me to be a regular.

You have got to come here, although expect 1 hour wait to be seated if you dont have reservations. The place was founded in 1951, you can actuallly walk around the mansion and look at different rooms. The Ginger Bread House they have in display is incredible, so much detail and Huge. Definitely a sight to go see, eat, enjoy and love. Decorated with beautiful antiques. Breakfast and food are superb.

I just wanna live here, like in the actual house. It was serving me up all kinds of southern charm fierceness. Its an old flour mill– and they sell all kinda of baking utensils and mixes. We had samples of espresso and chocolate cakes made with the sopapilla mix. They have all the mixes for most of the carby items on the menu– waffles, pancakes, and biscuits. I try to eat here everytime I visit, so naturally I had to bring my hot lady date for brunch. We were both sad when we realized they don’t have adult beverages, but our livers were happy I’m sure. All the seating is on the terrace so just be prepared to be out in the elements. We lucked out and it was perfect patio weather. We both went for the special that had samplings of the basic fare– eggs, meat of choice, potatoes and a biscuits with sausage gravy. The biscuits are huge– but so perfectly fluffy you just want more. We split a sweet cream waffle cause we hadn’t had enough starchy goodness. It really doesn’t need syrup or honey. Lauren is right– set up your mimosa game Gunther House!

We really enjoyed our weekend brunch at Guenther House! The grounds are very well maintained, and the employees are wonderful. There’s a little giftshop you can check out if you have any wait time to get your table. They sell their sweet cream waffle/pancakes/cake mixes there, along with some other fun kitchen stuff. We were able to sample the sweet cream cake there, and it was awesome! Ended up buying the sweet cream pancake mix to make at home(boyfriend and I have already used it all, it’s amazing). Our brunch itself was really good also. We got the special, I believe it was called the Pioneer Breakfast. it came with two biscuits and gravy, two eggs, homefries, and bacon. We also had a small basket of their biscuits and butter on the table while we waited. It was all really good! The biscuits were incredible, light and fluffy with great texture. The house coffee was pretty good also. We were really happy with our meals. This place is right on the river, so if you have to wait for your table, you can take a nice little walk and see some really nice older buildings along the river. Beautiful place!

I have been eating at this place for 18 years and finally decided it was review time. Over that period of time, there have been some great experiences and some that were not so great. Overall, the great far outweighs any of the other experiences. I had a new boss in town for his first time and wanted to make sure we started off the day on the«right foot». He likes breakfast, so this seemed the logical place to take him. I told him that we would probably have to wait to get a table, but that was ok, as we had a couple of hours before our meeting. I was pleasantly surprised with not having to wait. We were taken to our table immediately by a very nice host. He furnished the menu, told us about the specials, and went and grabbed us some coffee. I usually get biscuits and gravy, but they had a special on blueberry waffles, and I could not resist. My boss got the biscuits and gravy, eggs, and sausage. Food was served quickly, and was piping hot. My boss consumed his huge plate faster than I could eat my waffle. I think that tells you what he thought about it. As for me, I loved it too. Will I return? That goes without saying. If you have a new boss, and want to impress them with a great breakfast, take them here.

Historic San Antonio. This is it. Pro-Tip: if you park in the lot adjacent to Guenther street, walk around the restaurant and there is free coffee in the garden area. Sunday brunch. The wait is about 45-to over an hour but the time flies when you’re surrounded by other things to pass the time. 1. 2 parking areas available. If one is full, continue around the corner to the other parking lot. 2. Check-in is outside. They’ll hand you an alert pager when your table is ready. 3. While you’re waiting… Head across the street to the Blue Star Art complex. Checkout the Sunday galleries where local artists showcase their work. Grab a coffee at Halcyon Coffee Bar while you admire the art. 4. Stroll the river walk and take in nature. 5. Now you’re hungry… and your table is ready! Outdoor seating is great toward the later hours so sun is not direct on you. They have mist and fans to keep you cool on hot summer days. Dress relaxed and loose but dapper. Inquire about the daily specials. Had the chicken and waffles. Waffle was phenomenal, hearty and crispy edges. Chicken strips were forgettable but I’m a bone-in guy so I’m hard to please. The breakfast enchilada was drowning in cheese. It’s what you want if you’re a cheese fanatic. Chicken inside and flowing cheese in between. Delicious… Nailed it. Ice-tea was garnished with mint and lemon wedge. Perfect. The cost was very reasonable for the setting and the experience. Would recommend for any visitors coming to San Antonio. See you for dessert…

It’s only open till 3pm so make sure to keep that in mind. This is such a beautiful spot to take your family who are from out of town, classical music and adorable squirrels running around in the trees. The waffles were one of the best waffles I’ve ever had. Delicious light Belgian waffle with the most perfect sweet cream recipe! Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich — American Swiss cheese melted over pioneer brand seasoned grilled sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Can you say perfection??? Service is far from perfect but with it’s always pack. The kitchen definitely knows what they’re doing.
