The food was super syurpy and sweet. An older building and it showed, the bathrooms had spotty walls and floors. My youngest enjoyed the sushi and desset. The fried rice was very dry and bland. The general chicken was tough. We wont be back.

Very good buffet. A variety of flavors. Small selection of sushi. But done well. Needs eel sauce and chili oil.

The food is pretty awesome. Just needs to be cleaned up around here and staff should be a little friendlier. Love the coconut shrimp and the salmon a lot.

Good buffet, one of my regular places. Large selection and great flavors for a buffet. Good and friendly service.

I had eaten here several years ago and it was okay. I went yesterday I am telling you: DONOTGOTOTHISSLOPPOT. The food was old. When it was fresh, I am sure it was poor quality, or may they just recycled i t. The entrees contained very little meat and was loaded up with soggy veggies. Everything was GROSS. And to make it worse, when we entered, I went o the restroom to wash my hands. No soap. I reported it twice. THEPLACEWASNOTBUSY. This was Sat afternoon. So they can’t blame overwork with not replacing the soap. I reported the soap, went back 30 min later no soap. We left an hour later, I checked, no soap, I reported it again. HOWDOEMPLOYEESWASHTHEIRHANDSBEFORERETURNINGTO WORk? We went home and all four of had diarrhea. I am sure this crap hole of a restaurant will be closed up soon.

I recent order food to go They piled 4 entrées, 3 containers of rice, egg rolls and soup all into one paper bag. By the time I drove home the brown paper bag split open from the sauces seeping through the bottom causing one big mess on my floor mats. I wasn’t too happy about that.

The best dish at Golden Phoenix is the clams. The dood is delicous especially the cocunut shrimp. Its a small buffet which means they replace the food quickly and its fresh. Service could use some work.

have great memories of having lunch here with my mom… but, this place has been on a steady downhill decline for years. had an really bad dinner here with family a few years ago and hadn’t been back. but I was nearby today and craving the Phoenix chicken. bottom line… if you can eat $ 7 worth of Phoenix chicken or are just about the quantity of food you can shovel in — not quality– then eat here — otherwise DON’T! Phoenix chicken — good as always chicken and broccoli — good general tso’s — chicken so dry it was petrified — couldn’t even cut into it with a knife. corn nuggets — unhealthy I know, but I love them — not these though — cold and greasy lo mein — greasy rice — ditto and overloaded with peas and carrots cucumber salad — lukewarm and mushy — not COLD and crisp desserts and fruit — skip them! fruit was also not cool and crisp — warm and mushy — yuck! I think this will be my last visit here, may have to learn how to make Phoenix chicken myself!

If you want to talk about bang for your buck just buy the to go tray for this buffet. Service is not all bubbly and friendly but they’re cool. You get a big to-go tray for about 10 bucks and load it up with all the food you want they have a really nice selection of seafood as well. I am writing this review after I got home and the food actually tastes really good. I would definitely return.

This place used to be good. The food is ok, nothing great nothing horrible. The downfall is the ghetto people all around. As I type this someone a table behind me is streaming a movie full blast another table is telling their kid they are going to beat the hell out of them and and still others with babies crying as loud as possible. We have been here 30 – 50 times in the past, we won’t be back, it just isn’t worth it.

As far as Chinese Buffets go, this is one of the best. I give it 4 stars though because like many buffets its over all very good put I would not eat the food if it were a regular menu type place.

Not a great place, but not bad either. I’ve lived in San Antonio a long time(few year break in the middle when I was in the Marine Corps) so I am familiar with this restaurant when it was really good(previous owners) and how it is now which is just barely above acceptable. The only reason we went there a few nights ago is because my in-laws are in town and they remembered they liked the place. It wasn’t an overall bad experience, just not a good one either. Food is middle of the road but like others I get pretty annoyed when the first thing out of the hostess’ mouth when you walk in is «how old your kids?» Get over it they’re toddlers and wont eat much anyway. There’s a reason I only go to this place once every 4 – 6 months and I guess I have had my full for the next half year.

I went here with my fiancé for lunch. The food was all fresh and fairly tasty. I prefer this buffet to the one on Austin Highway by Anna’s. The décor is nothing new… your basic«Chinese Restaurant» motif. The hostess was rather uninterested… I hesitate to say unfriendly, only because one would have to understand something other than English to know what she was saying. When we left, she was reading a newspaper and didn’t even look up at us as we went. If you don’t want much in the way of a warm-fuzzy from the staff,(and if you’re going to a buffet, clearly the waitstaff isn’t TOO key, as long as they keep the empties off your table — which they did) the food is good and they offer a decent selection. I’d go back again.

I happened to come across a review of this restaurant on another site and the reviewer was appalled to find a male employee having sex with a customer in the bathroom stall. Having lived in San Antonio for several years and absolutely loving the food at this cheesy but delicious buffet joint I knew I had to go back the first chance I got. Great food plus the chance for a live sex show? Sign me up! My chance came two weeks ago when I traveled to San Antonio for business. Excited at the possibility of a full stomach followed by a happy ending I ran several red lights, coming to screeching to a halt in the parking lot of the strip mall where this restaurant is conveniently located next to a pool supply store where you can stock up on 5 gallon drums of chlorine. I knew something was up when I walked in and all of the great décor was gone. They had remodeled and gone were the Budda sculptures, red paper umbrellas, and pictures of white faced Geisha girls straddling flying dragons that appeared to be crapping firecrackers out their backside. Every stereotype of Asian culture that I had grown to love was gone… all gone. I silently mouthed the words, «What the f&%#» as I approached the host stand and before I could reconsider and walk out I heard this screeching voice ask, «How many?» I was trapped. «One,» I replied, looking down at the middle aged Asian woman who even in stiletto heels did not reach five feet. Standing next to her was an even shorter, and younger, Asian girl who had the biggest zit that I have ever seen. I suddenly remembered where I was when Mt. Saint Helens erupted. The elderly woman then proceeded to speak to the younger woman and point to the section where she appeared to want me to be seated. I don’t know what language she was speaking but it sounded as if the words coming out of her mouth were being forced out as if she was simultaneously being punched in the stomach and the throat. I then followed the young lady to my table, being sure that I kept a good distance in the off chance her face might explode. «There’s still the food,» I reassured myself, remembering the standard but delicious assortment of Chinese fare that awaited me. I should have went to the pool supply store where at least the smell of the chemicals would match what you would expect the chemicals to taste like. I won’t go into details but needless to say I sampled many of the items that I used to love and slowly, and in tears, came to the conclusion that the worst thing that can happen to one of your favorite restaurants had in fact happened. Change in ownership. I verified that the nightmare was true when one of the waiters came to take away my full plate of mostly untouched food. I asked him if there had been any changes and he pointed to the lady who first greeted me and said, «She owna now yes.» I looked over and the lady was now yelling at the younger girl who sat me. Even at that distance I could hear her shrill voice as it pierced my ear drums and rattled the thin windows. Remembering the shenanigans that I had read about taking place in the men’s bathroom I looked up at the waiter and thought, «Was it you?» He was smiling and had gaps between his teeth that could easily hold a pencil. I smiled back, handed him my credit card, paid, and left. As I walked back to my car I looked back at the entrance and remembered the good times of years past. The loss I felt was similar to what I assume young parents feel when they lose their baby to SIDS… or the neighbor’s pitbull. Once again I found myself asking, «Why God, why?» and as before I received no answer. Knowing that I just needed to move on I took a deep breath, adjusted my junk, got in my rental car and drove away looking in the rear view mirror once… just once.

After a year-and-a-half spent over seas, this classic American Chinese buffet is a sight for my sore eyes. Sure, most of the food is packed with MSG, trans fats, and the questionable parts of cows, chickens, and pigs — but that’s the fun in it! As long as you don’t visit Golden Phoenix on the regular(that means only come here once every three months or so) and as long as you resist the urge to expect an actual nutritious meal, you might just find yourself gazing upon its rows of fried, breaded, and sauced delicacies with just a drop of nostalgia in your heart. I recommend: Crab Rangoon, Coconut Shrimp, Corn Fritters Stay away from: Sushi, Seafood Bake, and Pepper Steak.
