All the positive reviews brought my wife and I by to try it out. She had a burger and I a cheese steak! Both were fantastic! We’ll be back. I want to try something different but it’s going to be difficult to break away from ordering another cheese steak. The optional jalapeños brought just the perfect amount of heat. Staff was friendly too! Definitely worthy of five stars.

Dropped by, recently moved back to SA. Had a hankering for a burger and did not want to go out to Chester’s or Fudruckers. So hubby and I gave this place a try. We are in love with the owner, she told us if we did love them we did not have to pay for the combo. Let me tell you the cheeseburgers were delicious, they have the bund made and they are like a cross between a croissant and a hoagie bun. Their son served us, the drinks are all you can drink when eating in house. The chips and drinks were free for first timers. This is a hidden GEM! I hear the cheese steaks are fantastic too! Go, before everyone else find this place!

This place is the BOMBDIGGITY! What a great find, thanks Unilocal! If you have a problem with gas station HIDDENGEMS, you’re missing out on some of the greatest spots in cities throughout the world. Gino’s is run by a couple extremely nice people, and use such a server type mentality it really is a breath of fresh air. It makes me want to be as nice as possible to them because they were wayy nicer than I was expecting, weird how that works huh? Haha. Anyways, the Philly cheesesteak is THEBOMB! Went there twice in the span of 12 hours and got 2 sandwiches each time… Just to give you an idea ;)

Wow! My husband and I both got a Philly Cheese Steak. I chose no tomatoes and no lettuce and I was very happy! The flavor was amazing! It was fresh off the grill and well worth the drive and the money! We will be back for sure!

Have been going to this place for 10 years now. It has always had a welcoming staff and in my opinion the best sandwiches in town.

YUM! Just went to try this place on my lunch break. I have read the reviews and finally had to come in. WELLWORTHIT. Upon entering, the lady who greeted me and answered my questions about the sandwiches was very pleasant and helpful. Informed that since it was my first time, to get a complimentary chips and drink. Picked up my side items and went to the register. Cashier was very personable and friendly. I went to go wait for my sandwich. The cook asked me after a minute or so what my name was and quickly got a status on where my food was. That to me is above average service. Within a couple of minutes my sandwich was ready and on my way out the door. I was already impressed with the quality customer service. Back at my office, I tore into my italian sandwich. SOGOOD. Flavorful. The bread is fantastic. Such a balance of meat, cheese, and toppings. This thing was delicious. I am so pleased with my experience and my office mates are upset they didn’t get one :) Definitely plan for this to become a favorite lunch spot.

This dive is definitely a hidden gem. Tucked away it’s hard to find if you’re not looking for it, but once you find it you’re in for a treat. Never have I experienced such warm and welcoming service before. From the cook to the cashier, you’re pretty much treated as if you are the only customer! As far as the food goes, I ordered the Philly, which was delicious. However, I would probably opt out of the lettuce next time around due to sogginess issues on the drive home. Don’t let the outside fool you, Gino’s is worth the stop!

I picked up some Philly for my parents from out of town and I. It was all of our 1st time here and I’m not sure if I ordered the wrong thing but they tasted very basic and did not have much flavor. They were OK but not the best thing I’ve ever had. Did not see what the craze is all about.:(

This place is nestled inside a convenience store/gas station. My brother in law told us about it and since I’ve been craving a cheesesteak I decided to try it out. I’ve had cheesesteak from several different places here and have yet to taste one that comes close to the ones back home on the east coast. First off we got there and saw an employee bringing the mats outside and asked if they were closed and he said we had 7 minutes… now most places when I arrive and realize they’re about to close I leave because I don’t want them pissed because I arrived at closing time. So I asked him straight up «are we gonna get food that’s been sitting there since lunch» he said no they’ll cook it when you order. So we go inside and immediately Jim comes over and greets us in a very enthusiastic way(he treated everyone that entered the store with the same respect) And told us if we didn’t love our meal it was on him. He went the extra mile to ensure our cheesesteaks came exactly as we wanted them even went easy on the jalapeño for me. He also threw in chips and a fountain drink. We got our food and it was seasoned well even for me and I usually add salt to EVERYTHING. The bread was lightly toasted and the the meat was topped with that ooey gooey goodness called provolone cheese and there was a equal ratio of lettuce and tomato. I get full pretty quickly but I didn’t think to ask if they came in a smaller portion I was just too excited! One thing that I found peculiar and a tad creepy was the amount of cameras in such a small area… either we’re like a little science experiment or its a warning for those with«sticky fingers». Lol This is your typical hole in the wall place. No its not all fancy and maybe you CAN find a better cheesesteak somewhere else but this place gets 5 stars from me because it’s the best I’ve had here AND they exceeded my expectations as far as customer service goes. I will definitely return simply because of the excellent customer service but the cheesesteak was tasty too!

Look people, if you’re from the East Coast, just moping around San Antonio and muttering how you miss Philly steaks so much, I’ve got great news for you. The Philly steak you know and love is here, in San Antonio! And to make things even better, you can get one with a tank of gas! That’s right, forget Rudy’s and head to Gino’s Deli. It’s that shabby gas station on Huebner, the small business you may have passed by without even realizing that the Philly is inside! Really? Philly steaks in San Antonio? Yes. Even I was skeptical at first when reading the Unilocal reviews, but after trying a cheesesteak at Gino’s, I totally understand what people are raving about. It’s a delicious sandwich all the way around: tender rib-eye steak, thinly sliced and loaded with peppers, onions, and jalapenos, then crowned with smokey provolone cheese that strings beautifully as you pull the sandwich apart! Oh man, tis a savory delight unlike any regional sandwich I’ve come by yet – a reminder of where I call home. Aleem is one of the nice guys running this joint, a professed New Yorker who’s passionately bringing a taste of the east to the southwest. He’ll insist you not pay if you don’t love your meal, so what’s to lose? Whether you’re a native Texan or a transplant from the coast, Gino’s Deli is definitely worth a try. Highly recommended.

I’ve been to my share of gas stations, but this is the best gas station food ever. No joke. This place is in the most unassuming places — a gas station. But it’s definitely not gas station food. The entire experience was just surreal… I went to get dinner… in the back of a gas station. Inside there was a long bar/bench area for people to sit and eat. Something that you’d find in a hipster joint. The owner of the little shop comes out to take my order. And on learning that this was my first time here. He set out one rule: I absolutely *have* to love it. Not«it’s good», «it’s ok», «pretty good». I have to absolutely have to love it or he refuses to take my money. Takes the order for a Philly Steak, and throws in some chips and a drink, because it’s my first time here. While I’m waiting, the owner, Jimmy, goes to the stock room and gets some Matchbox cars and gives them to the family of four eating their sandwich dinner there. He goes on to tell me that this little food stand is his little pet project with his brother, Aleem. A family of cooks/chefs. He calls it his man cave type project, which they do for fun. Absolutely not in it for the money. This helps to explain why there’s a «love it or we don’t want you money policy.» I think this also explains why every review here is 5 stars. It seems like it’s blown up in the last year. Of the reviews, half of their 90 reviews were written in the last 3 – 4 months. First review in 2011, at least… it’s finding about places like this that display the value of Unilocal. While Unilocal has popped this place up to #2 in places to eat at in San Antonio, Jimmy hopes that this place doesn’t blow up to the point that he can’t manage things himself. Talk about not wanting to sellout. No ads. No signs. Just word of mouth. That shows passion. It’s quite inspiring, actually. I’ve edited this review about 5 – 6 times, trying to get all of the details in here. While all of this is going on, people buying gas or coming in and out. He’s handing out lighters to coming asking for a light of their cigarette. I actually took the sandwich to go. And I had to promise that if I didn’t love it, that I’d come back for a refund. Which probably was a good idea. Eating it away from the establishment helped to prevent on the spot biases while the owner is probably awaiting for a «love it or refund it» response. So after all of this, how was the sandwich? It’s worth the hype. It’s worth the trip. It’s worthy of dinner. The meat was juicy and packed with flavor. But it wasn’t so juicy that it destroyed the bread. The bread was so well toasted and buttery that its crunchiness added to the textures of juicy meat, and fresh vegetables. It is worth your money? Yes. Would I come back? Yes Do I regret not coming here sooner? Yes Was this one of my more serious reviews? Yes But will I continue to write more crazy, off the wall reviews? Yes When am I coming back? Probably tomorrow and the day after.(They supposedly have the best barbacoa sandwiches this side of the country on the weekends.)

Do not be deceived by the looks of this place! Yes it is in the gas station, yes it is fantastic! As soon as we entered we were treated like friends. The guy gave us a run down of the shop and recommend the Philly cheesesteak since it’s so popular. We sat back and waited for a bit(10 minutes at most), then the guy brought out two torpedo shaped masterpieces. The soft but crisp bread, the gooey cheese, and mostly the steak was unlike any other. Like you don’t have to travel to New York, it’s here. They topped it with mayo, lettuce, tomato, bell peppers. I for one am not fond of tomatoes, but on this sandwich it was too good to take them off. The textures blended so well together and the tomato reintroduced your palate to the other aspects of the sandwich. The guy came up to our table as we were nearing the end of our meal to ask what we though of his sandwiches. He told us, «If you do not absolutely love it, you do not have to pay for it. You could get up and walk out without paying. That’s not a joke guys. This is not a business. This is a passion, project, and hobby for us. « The passion these people put into their sandwiches is phenomenal. One of the best places in San Antonio, a true diamond in the rough, or should I say gas station.

I’m rating this based on the sandwiches and the hospitality of the brothers that own the place. The venue, on the other hand, well… it’s a gas station. So, please look past that. I’ve eaten there three times now(in less than three weeks). I’ve actually had four meals in those three visits(to a cheesesteak home for dinner). I’ve had the cheesesteak, Hot Rod burger, and Steak Italian. I’d try to recommend one over the others, but honestly can’t. It depends on what you’re in the mood for. They are all amazing.

YES. Among the best, if not THE best cheese steaks I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. First off, I love the idea of the place. It’s a gas station… and they have amazing food. People I’ve talked to seem downright terrified by the idea of it, but with my odd inclinations, it sounded right up my alley. And it didn’t disappoint. Let’s talk about the folks running the place first. They’re delightful! They seem to really enjoy what they do, and they seem to take quite a bit of pleasure in taking care of their customers. They’ve offered up free beverages and chips every time I’ve come in. I don’t know if that’s a standard, but they really do seem to be aiming to please. Now let’s talk food. Man, oh man, let’s talk food. The cheese steak is absolutely incredible. I’ve been converted to cheese whiz as the cheese of choice for a cheese steak, so I was sad when I saw they didn’t offer it, but it was great just the same. The meat is perfectly seasoned, and the jalapenos work. Really, everything works here. Don’t customize until you try the sandwich as they offer it. I was weirded out by lettuce on a cheese steak, but it just tastes so freaking good. Just do yourself a favor. Go. Now. If it’s open, and you’re hungry, head out the door now and consume one of these bad boys. You’ll thank me later.

We got Unilocal’d in an I gotta say the it did not disappoint. We came shopping to La Cantera & we pleased to find out that this place was only a few minutes from our hotel. We took the drive and it was worth every minute if it. We got greeted by the store clerk(it is a gas station after all) but quickly found the deli. The owner asked if it was our first time, which it was, and he surprised us with a free chip & drink combo upgrade on the house. He recommended the philly, which we agreed to try, and it did not let us down. The quality of the ingredients was superb and the taste was out if this world! It will definitely be in our«must stop» list from now on.
