Food was tasty and filling. I got an s-2 with seafood soup, and it was delicious. The vegetables abs herbs taste very fresh. My husband got an s-3, which was very good and was reminiscent of a Bahn mi. The cream puffs that come with the meal ate a great ending to the meal.

Amazing sandwich and great prices. The homemade pâté on my sandwich is super tasty. The staff are friendly and fast. This was my first experience and I’d love to return

I always get the S7(continental) sandwich with French bread and it is out of this world! I get mine without the homemade mayo and add jalapenos. All of the ingredients are always fresh. The French onion soup is also fantastic, it is lighter than most French onion soups which I like a lot.

A wonderful lunch option in Med center! Can get a little busy at this choice time, but the family that runs the restaurant is so hospitable, I’ve never minded the crowd. A good friend of mine who is über picky(a SoCal native who thinks nothing can be better than it is in Cali) really enjoys coming to dine with me here, a compliment in of itself! Not overly salted, like many sandwich shops in the area, fresh ingredients not overly toyed with, and strong, delicious flavors. It’s not hip, it’s not trendy, but it’s good eats at a good price point. As many have noted, for about $ 7.50 you’ll get a large sandwich, soup or side salad, and small ‘custard filled’(more like pudding, but still tasty!) dessert. I myself am partial to the tofu salad– the house vinaigrette is just so zesty and bright, with lots of garlic, vinegar, and dried herbs.

Service & food wasn’t as good as 5 years ago. I had to wave twice to get a water refill & there weren’t that many customers. Food took quite awhile to arrive. My sandwich was nowhere as good as it was years ago. The bread was a little too hard & there was no melted crispy cheese like last time. I would recommend trying a salad as it is a large serving & very tasty. My guest really enjoyed her meal & wants to return. Food is good, just not as good as the past.

First lunched here back in 2002. What a quirky place, but so tasty. Didn’t go again until about 10 years later. Still quirky but so tasty. This place has the most delicious French bread — not too crusty or hard to rip up the roof of your mouth. Just perfect. On my latest visit I had the S-2, basically a club sandwich. It is served with a flavored mayo, cilantro, tomato and cucumber. I usually order with no cilantro, tomato or cukes since I am not a fan, and the sandwich is then fabulous. My husband loves the veggies and says his version is fabulous. To each his own. Usually I get the side salad with my sandwich but I had the seafood soup on my latest visit. It was very viscous and had asparagus stalks in it, which kind of put me off, but the flavor was good after I added some pepper. This place is a great little gem for people in the medical center/USAA area.

How have I not heard about this place? Great sandwiches and I loved the onion soup. The profiterole was a fantastic finish. Can’t wait to go back to try the bahn mi. I had the roast beef on baguette and my husband had the meatballs on the crossaint. His was my favorite of the two. A great place in SA

UPDATE: Ordered the S1 chicken sandwich on croissant. Solid sandwich, but nothing outstanding, and I must say I personally prefer the French baguette A LOT more to the croissant. The croissant is delicious, light, and fluffy, but I missed the crispiness and texture of the baguette.

Had the Sandwich Au Blanc De Dindonnean for my boyfriend and Rosbif En Tanches for mine. Sandwich Au Blanc De Dindonnean– icludes Turkey club combination of ham, crisp bacon, turkey breast, and swiss cheese. Rosbif En Tanches– filled with Roast beef deluxe. sliced roast beef with horseradish sauce and stir fried onions. I have to say it was one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. The portion to price ratio is fair. Reasonable rpice for a yummy and fresh sandwich filling and bun.

I have been a patron of the French Sandwiches for a while now and the people who work here are very nice! The place is kind of small and can get busy during the lunch hour but slows down around 1:00pm. Since it is in a shopping center parking can be tricky at times but it doesn’t take too long to find a spot. My favorite thing to order here is the French Onion Soup. It is very delicious and they add a mini piece of baguette crostini with cheese on top. I also order the grilled cheese sandwich and sometimes the ham & cheese which are both really delicious! The ham and cheese comes with a lot of veggies and I really feel that they give the sandwich more flavor. The only suggestion I would make on the grilled cheese is to let the cheese melt more other than that it is really good! You can choose what type of bread you want your sandwich to be on whether you want sourdough or croissant. The lunch also comes with your choice of whether you would like a soup or chips.(I always choose the soup!) as if the sandwiches couldn’t get any better they even add a crème puff for dessert. The service is wonderful and the people are kind I really recommend French Sandwiches shop!

I ate here with a friend YEARSAGO and I was super excited to try it again for lunch today. This cozy family owned restaurant is tucked into the same strip mall as India Palace and San Antonio Burger company and well worth the trip if you’re looking for a yummy sandwich at a great price. For less than $ 8 you get a generous size sandwich with your choice of chips, soup or salad, AND a cream puff for dessert(delicious sweet goodness!). I tried the Roast Beef Deluxe on a baguette with French onion soup and both were excellent! The bread was perfectly crunchy outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, and the soup had a great flavor. They make their own roast beef too, which is awesome! I also tried the meatball sandwich, and I have to say that the roast beef was more to my taste. My boyfriend had the beef fajita on a croissant and said it was very good. The service was great and I appreciate that the staff were very kind and answered our questions about the menu. The restaurant is small inside and could use some updating on their décor, but I would recommend it for a casual lunch.

Another great sandwich place in the medical center area. I have only been here a couple times but both times I was pleased with my meal. The sandwiches are fresh, inexpensive, and tasty. They have some interesting fusions of mexican and vietnamese sandwiches, and you can expect to find some options here that you can’t at most places. The soup is good, but nothing spectacular. The reason I’m giving it 4 stars is because it really is not that filling of a sandwich for the price. It’s a common problem with sandwich places like this, but its really hard to justify coming here and spending that much for a sandwich that is going to leave you hungry in a couple hours anyways. Worth trying if you are looking for a light lunch that is more exciting than your typical fast food sandwich place.

Okay, So the décor needs some updating but who cares when sandwiches are as good as this mom and pop place? A fusion between French and Vietnamese(Vietnam was once part of French Indochina after all), these sandwiches are both delicious and unique. I’ve been here for lunch twice will definitely be coming back for more. The chefs combo(sausage, pork and pâté) and the Beouf en tranches(Roast beef) are fantastic and I imagine the rest of the menu is well.

I’m sad and embarrassed that I didn’t find this place sooner. I’ve been to other restaurants many times that are within steps of this place. I guess better late than never. French sandwiches is perfect if you’re looking for a casual lunch in the Medical Center area. It’s located in a shopping center right off of Fredericksburg and Wurzbach. The restaurant serves French style sandwiches with a Vietnamese flare. You get a choice of your sandwich being made with French bread or croissants. The bread is made fresh daily here! The lunch special consists of the sandwich, a side of your choice(salad, soup, or chips) and pastry dessert for about $ 7.20 -$ 8.50. Not too bad! I ordered the S3, which is a roast beef sandwich. It was so delicious. I would definitely recommend it if you’re a roast beef lover. The owners/workers are so friendly! I mistakenly ordered the wrong items for my to-go order, and they changed it for me no problem. I felt so bad, but they were understanding and nice about it. I will definitely be back here soon. Next time I will probably dine in so I can try the French Onion soup!

I recommend the tofu sandwich, combo special sandwich, and au blanc de dindonneau. Three very different sandwiches but so good! Big fan of their French onion soup. I’ve been coming here for years, owned by husband and wife. Always courteous.

Ever since I’ve been in San Antonio, I’ve always wanted to try this place and I’m so happy I did because it’s simply amazing. As a general rule, I try not to go to the same restaurant twice to force myself to try new places, but I broke the rule and came here twice in one week! Yes, that’s how delicious it was! Each meal comes with soup/salad and a cream puff dessert. I asked the owner where they get their bread from, and he told me they make it from scratch. That didn’t surprise me at all because the bread was so soft, crisp, and flaky. I could honestly just dip that bread in their French onion soup and call it a day. Soups: I prefer the French onion soup over the seafood soup. The seafood soup had pieces of imitation crab(I think… I’m sure it’s not real crab) and was okay. On the other hand, the French onion soup was superb. I highly recommend getting it over the other soups. Sandwiches: I’ve tried the BBQ Chicken, Sandwich Au Blanc De Dindonnean, and Combo Special Sandwich. All three sandwiches were packed full of meats and veggies. I eat a lot of food, and these sandwiches made me full. I feel like it’s probably 8 – 9′ in length? So far, my favorite is the BBQ Chicken, but I may be biased because I love BBQ sauce. Overall, really great, affordable, and delicious! Highly recommend!

It’s all about simple eats at French; nicely prepared sandwiches are about the single thing worth highlighting here. Though none of the ones available have ever blown me away, their consistent quality is appreciated. Only several bucks cheaper than, say, a Panera Bread [which offers both heftier AND tastier sandwiches and related items], I always can’t help — whenever I actually do dine at French — but wonder WHY I didn’t just choose Panera. Heck, I’d take McAlister’s or Jason’s, Schlotzsky’s even, over French… possibly for mere atmosphere alone. For some reason, no matter the sandwich, whether on a baguette or croissant, «bánh mì» comes to mind immediately upon my initial bite. NOTTHATTHERE’S ANYTHINGWRONGWITHTHIS… if I wanted something vaguely Vietnamese, HOWEVER, I’d go to a Vietnamese place. Yet don’t let my personal experiences/observations deter you. Some solid menu items are their S-5 ‘Boulettes Marseillaises’(sliced meatballs…) sandwich, S-3 ‘Rosbif En Tranches’(sliced roast beef + horseradish…) sandwich, and most-commonly-ordered S-2 ‘Sandwich Au Blanc De Dindonneau’(ham, bacon, turkey, Swiss…). Every sandwich is(1) preceded by either French’s daily onion soup OR soup-of-the-day(e.g. ‘Asparagus Shrimp’ Mon-Tue, ‘Chicken Corn’ Wed-Thu, ‘Seafood Soup’ Fri-Sat), and(2) followed by a supposedly handmade cream puff. [None of the soups are memorable — truth be told, they’re all far too watery and brothy with evident lack of flavor complexity. And to an extent, their cream puffs, in my opinion, take after vanilla cream doughnuts more than the typical light and airy cream puff.] Ultimately, I’ve had much better sandwiches, and I can’t figure out exactly why French Sandwiches has garnered so many a rave review lol. Rating specifics(i.e. 1 – 5, low-high)… — Overall recommendation = 3.25 — Food taste and quality = 3(like, WHAT is everyone so amazed by?!) — Portion size = 3.75 — Price = 3.5 — Atmosphere = 2.5(pleasant, clean, but dull) — General service = 3 — Waitstaff = 4 — Location = 3
