THISPLACECLOSED. Sad because it’s a nice location with nice outdoor seating. Needed better food.

To start I have to say everything here was superb except for mgmt response to our complaint about the bass noise from the outdoor music. I’m not expecially sensitive, but the noise simply grated on my nerves while trying to enjoy the awesome food. It was too cold to go outside, where they had a DJ and where we might have escaped the bass drone. Food was fantastic, service as well.

Quite frankly, I don’t understand why this place doesn’t do better business. The food is great, the service is outstanding, the patio is pleasant. This is a great place to go! Every time I have gone there to eat the service has been attentive, the margaritas were tasty, and the food has been outstanding. I would put their fajitas at the top of the list in San Antonio. Their enchiladas are excellent. Give this place a chance and you will be a fan as well.

Adobe rib enchiladas for the win. We went on a pretty busy Friday night and found a new favorite. Despite the issues with the bar, basically understaffed, we had a fantastic meal. I ordered the dirty bird street tacos. Every mouth full left you wanting the next bite. The beef, yeah they were beef not chicken, was tender and not over seasoned leaving the bacon and cheese to shine. While mine was good, I wanted to steal my husbands. He ordered the rib enchiladas and they were hands down the best enchiladas I have ever had. The gravy/sauce was think and flavorful. Overall, even with the backed up bar it was an amazing meal and true find. Forget houfbrau! Ill be next door.

Came here for a birthday dinner with a group of friends. It’s the old Stone Werks location at the Quarry. Parking could be a pain because of the Hofbrau, but Firebird cones off their parking spots for their customers. It’s got a huge patio area and a small indoor dinning area. Though it was 100 degrees outside, we sat in the patio. Actually, the didn’t bother me because they had fans running(even misting fans). I just had the ceviche which had a nice sweet and spicy flavor. Also, tried the Cangrejo Fresca(crab meat) salad which was also fresh and flavorful. I would like to come back and try their other dishes.

Finally tried this place for a late lunch on Monday. Their patio is huge and inviting and inside has neat décor. Music is kinda odd though — ranging from Sinatra to Carly Rae Jepsen. Server was nice but not overbearing. I had the cheese enchiladas which were oozing and yummy. Rice was fluffy and flavorful. Menu had a bunch of stickers on it saying they were going to add new items so I’m wanting to come back and try them out.

I loved the food and the Latin music. We were seated immediately but it took over 10 minutes for the server to come to our table. It was not a busy night so there was no excuse not to at least acknowledge our presence within a few minutes. The margarita was not very good so I switched to beer without finishing the drink. I probably will not go back.

I was very impressed by the restaurant! The manager came to our table and was very engaged, you could tell he cared about the restaurant and the customer’s experience. We went there to celebrate a birthday and they really made it special. Our service was wonderful. they were very prompt with our food and drinks. The Margaritas were amazing! The food was also very unique. It gave a new twist to Mexican food in San Antonio.

We were very pleasantly surprised by this place. Noticed it by chance going by the Quarry. If you’ve been here awhile, you’ll recognize it as the old location of StoneWerks. We came on a quiet afternoon, not very busy at all. Latin style music echoed throughout and the aroma of grilled seasoned meat in the air. Classy joint. Sit inside or out in the shade. The food is what really breaks this place out from the others. And there are many others here in south Texas — some great, many good, a few very bad, Firebird’s definitely in the great category. I don’t care what was in the enchaladas, I just know that I want them again when we return. The shredded meat, the melted cheeses, the ancho sauce, all perfectly cooked and spiced. We also tried the blackened white fish tacos. Rolled in their own handmade corn tortillas, sweet and moist, topped with a spicy slaw and served with poblano rice and black beans. Left full and eager to come again. They got it right here!

Have you ever had a mouthgasm? An «orgasma in la boca,» if you will? I have. And did. At Firebird. I have to start with the ambience, as I am a patio man. I love a great patio, and Firebird delivers. You park and walk through this little entryway, step down to this beautiful patio — part of it covered by trees, the other by a gorgeous, elegantly-lit deck. I saw a lot of the diners holding a beautiful margarita and immediately my friend and I ordered two. See the photo I’ve uploaded — a work of art finished with a slice of lime, a pepper and — a requisite — salt. $ 8. Not a terrible price. And it was absolutely delicious, as were the bottomless non-greasy chips and spicy salsas. Their menu is filled with fresh, light dishes, with plenty of Tex-Mex seafood dishes to choose from, especially. I settled on the red snapper tacos with cilantro rice and spicy black beans. No lie — I devoured that dish in about five minutes. Absolutely outstanding. The lunch price for it is $ 9. Dinner is a few bucks more because you get an extra taco — 3 instead of 2. My friend had something similar — a fish dish — and was just as pleased as I. The service was top-notch, with not only our server but a manager popping by our table, asking about the service, food and what have you. When I went inside for a restroom check(they passed, by the way; clean), the interior looked cozy with booths and a bar with ESPN on the TVs. Looked like a fun atmosphere no matter where you sat — in or out. FYI, this is right next to Hofbrau on the western edge of the Quarry. I’ll definitely return. Soon. Great food, great patio, decent prices. Count me in.

I was quite impressed… situated in the Quarry, Firebird is a wonderful soothing upscale Mexican restaurant with outdoor fireplaces and yummy margaritas. My boyfriend and I are very picky eaters and try to be healthy, at Firebird you get food that is made from wonderful fresh ingredients. Instead of plain bell peppers in the fajitas it came out with thinly sliced poblanos which added such flavor and character to the dish. I am looking forward to trying other dishes. The margaritas are very good, and the bartenders are nice enough to customize them for you if you wish. I don’t like the sickening sweet taste of a sweet and sour mix so I asked the bartender to replace the sweet and sour mix with lime juice… ahhh it came out just the way I like them! … I will definitely be back!

We really wanted to like this place, but will not be returning. Went there for lunch and was seated right away. Waited over 10 minutes for a server to even acknowledge we were there. After watching 3 employees cleaning a 4 top and other tables who were seated after us being served we walked out before ordering. We don’t mind paying $ 12 for a lunch, but expect decent service for that price.

Excellent all around! Service is amazing. They made a custom margarita for me. It was to die for! We had a Caesar salad with fresh Chipotle Caesar dressing and salmon topped with sweet grilled pico de gallo! I would eat this every day if I lived in San Antonio!

If you haven’t tried this place, you must. This is not your traditional Mexican food. The food is excellent, and this was our first visit. We will definitely go back to try some of the other items on the menu. I highly recommend the tortilla soup, and my husband recommends the fish tacos.

You like be hard-pressed to find the same level of service and quality of food at Firebird. The service is great, staff is attentive(on my third visit the owner visited my table for an introduction and conversation about the restaurant), the food is incredible and all around a wonderful place to dine. About the food… The appetizer menu is perfect and you definitely get your money’s worth. Fresh guacamole made table side, a twist on cream corn(forgive me for not remembering what it is called), goat cheese fundido was different(earthy) while quite flavorful. Also, they have two different salsas: Verde and negro. The green is very flavorful and the black contains roasted vegi’s much like Rosario’s does(with better flavor). I can’t say this enough: their food is to die for. I give the same kudos for the entrees. The fajita portioning is plentiful, nice and smoky meat, crisp peppers and onions that some of the best in SA. The short rib enchiladas are, well, incredible — a definite must. Chicken enchiladas are perfect. The potato-wrapped red fish is quite nice too. On my last visit I had the rib eye(I am a major steak lover), and it was very nice: smoked(as they do with all their meats) then grilled with no rub. All in all they really get the main events right. What sets this restaurant apart for me is not the only the main event of the main course, but also the accompaniments. The rice, beans tortillas(and so on) stand out as well. A great example of this is the rib eye. It comes atop baked beans(incredibly flavorful). The same beans are used with the red fish which also comes with a green rice(also unreal). With those two examples in mind, near everything I have sampled at Firebird(entrée wise) comes with«sides» that push each meal over the top. Bear in mind I «found» this place less than two weeks ago and have been there several times. I have also introduced about six others… yes, it’s that good. I can’t wait to try the deserts. As a parting note, and since this place is the old Stone Works, I had to ask about the parking. From what I was told they have it fixed. They are working on getting valet service, shuttles and a few other things to lessen the load caused by being next to Hofbrau’s. They have also struck a deal with the lot that Bric Brac ‘N Brass has, which should further lighten the load. In short, I think they have the parking issue handled, but we will see once Spring ’13 hits when it both catches on and the nicer weather comes back consistently.

This place stands out in multiple ways. First of all, the outdoor seating is awesome — the patio is super attractive with big oak trees, cool Texas landscaping and a fabulous outdoor fireplace. Lots of patio heaters too. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. But on to the other important part, the food! We were thrilled with everything we had — the crab salad was fresh, refreshing and delicious with lots of lump crab meat, a watermelon salsa and just tangy enough lime dressing.(Might’ve been just lime juice.) I think I’ll go have it every day in the summer! The goat cheese fundido was delicious and just enough. Our tablemates had beef fajitas which were a more than generous portion, and very well cooked and presented. There were 2 plates of enchiladas at the table, one of shredded rib meat and the other chicken, which were both to die for — nobody needed a to-go box. The grilled chicken salad had beautiful greens, a generous chicken breast that was deliciously flavored and the dressing was perfect. We had a group of folks that all came at different times, some had just drinks, we pulled up chairs, etc., and the staff was most accommodating and made us feel totally comfortable. We were part of a group that was there with the musicians who played there that night, and it was such a welcomed change from places that often act like they don’t want the musicians’ friends and family to be «taking up space»(this seems to be a phenomenon peculiar to San Antonio). It’s a place with great food(upscale while maintaining comfort food feel), trendy/upscale feeling without being pretentious, yet laid-back at the same time, and just puts out a good vibe. I’ll be back multiple times! I hope our musicians end up with a regular gig there, because it’s the kind of place you like to bring business to. Excellent experience!
