Espresso Gallery’s open mics on Thursdays allowed me to improve as a poet and performance artist. Thanks, Espresso Gallery!

Remember your favorite barista from The Foundry? Well he has his own place now! Awesome coffee, awesome smiles, awesome art.

In a parallel universe much like Southtown the area by five points is witnessing a revival as of late. First buoyed by The Green, then The Cove and now by areas nearby SAC. One spot is The Espresso Gallery, a place where you can get coffee/cappuccino, hangout with friends and view cool artworks by local artists. It is right across the street from The Nighrocker’s Live(I might add by the time you read this it will be closed.)It is small. There is some seating but very minimal. There is shabby chic’ furniture along the main room. Along the wall are works by local artist’s, a great portion of it was quite amazing. There is a small stage for poetry, musicians and other performers I suspect. The main demographic of this spot seems to be young professionals, art students and people who seem well~red. It has a very chill, laid-back vibe to it. . You can buy drinks such as coffee, espresso(hence the name) and cappuccinos. You can get double or single shots of these beverages. I had a double shot of their cappuccino and it was pretty good. The service and prices for beverages were quite excellent I might add. By the time I had finished my mug, my head was swirling all over the room; total caffeinated buzz! Again, there is seating but it is very limited. I say this as I segway to my next point. Since it is so small and on this night there was an art exhibit, as more patrons filed in, the room got even smaller. In addition an acoustic musician was playing and it was hard to carry on a conversation. My suggestion to them would be to open the room out more. That way more people can fit and mingle more comfortably. I think it’s good that they have a stage, but I think if they are going for a coffee house feel they should forgo the stage altogether in place of having performances closer to the floor. This would free up some space to place tables or more seats. I like the Espresso Gallery. It is a nice addition to this growing part of town, certainly it’s proximity to SAC makes it all the more enticing. In the coming months I suspect it will be over-flooding with students who will come here to form study groups. In addition artists, musicians and performers will utilize this space for their own creative endeavors. But I am most certain that people will come back mainly for their tasty beverages, good service and friendly vibe.
