Delice Chocolatier & Patisserie

This place is pretty fancy. Came here for valentines, the packaging was very lovely. The place in general look yummy all over: D it’s like a mini chocolate factory hehe. Would definitely recommend.

I’m obsessed with all the amazing baked goods and chocolates from this one stop sweet shop. We always buy all our special occasions. My favorite part is that they also bake amazing gluten free pies, cakes, macaroons etc.

I have eaten chocolates in NYC where coca pods were imported and the beans harvested on site to roast while artisens hand paint your truffles.
I have also eaten at a traditional chocolatier in Colonial Williamsburg Virginia where everything was melted on kettles and formed in wooden molds.
Dělice is the only chocolatier in San Antonio, I feel, is equal to this artestry. The Belgian chocolate is a delight as it desolves on your mouth.

I picked up one of their dark truffle chocolate cakes and brought it to my office party, and judging from everyone’s reaction, it was a really good idea. Of course, I tried it myself, and you can really appreciate the soft, moist cake layered with delicious frosting and beautiful ribbons of chocolate melded into a pretty chocolate flower that rests atop the cake. I tried some of the French macaroons for good measure. I’m not about to write off Sweet Lobby back home in DC, but Delice made some pretty solid ones in their own right. If you are looking for a special occasion cake or if you just want to be really nice to that chocolate lover in your life, I’d strongly suggest Delice.

Since moving to San Antonio from Manhattan (i.e., NYC) where the culinary scene is unbeatable, I have been on the hunt for the best food places. Now, having stumbled upon Délice, I think I have found my favorite patisserie. Not only can they bake a wicked decadent cake, but they can also bake a gluten-​free decadent cake that doesn’t taste «gluten-​free»; that is, their gluten-​free cakes actually taste like their non-​gluten-​free cakes. That’s hard to pull off!!!
Now onto their cakes. I love their personal sized 4-​inch cakes. You can try all sorts of flavors: from their dark truffle chocolate cake with a moist chocolate cake covered in dark heavily rich chocolate ganache to their red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting to their vanilla dulce de leche cake with a rich buttercream frosting. These are great because you can buy just one or two indulge without eating a whole 8– or 10-​inch cake all on your own. Moreover, whenever you’re stuck and need help making a difficult decisions, such as deciding whether you’re in the mood for something dark like dark chocolate or anything lighter like milk chocolate, the person at the front will always offer you a free sample of the chocolate they use for either of cakes, even when you’re a repeat customer.
Shhhhh, I think the hidden gem among their menu offerings, which doesn’t appear to be on their menu unless I neglected to notice it, is their cheesecake, which I bought for an office celebration and which everyone immediately devoured leaving no trace of its existence behind. Specifically, the cheesecake itself has a perfect density that is neither hard like freshly churned butter nor light like whipped cream but smooth and velvety in density and texture. To taste, it is not too sweet but just sweet enough. As for the crust, the crunchy texture of the crust further accentuates the flavors of the cheese, bringing the perfect balance of opposing tastes and textures to the delicate richness of the cheese.
Regarding customer service, the owners and staff are always courteous and thoughtful. Being the dude that I am, I was planning on carrying two larger special order cakes and two personal-​sized cakes all by my machoself to my car but the owner insisted on helping me carry the cakes to my car. Finally, I still find myself fascinated every time I am rung up at the cash register as credit card transactions do not include a tip option, even when some situations warrant it. My working hypothesis about their practice is that (1) the store is not in it for money as they can sustain their business with just sales transactions or (2) the store pays their staff enough so that the staff do not need to have supplement income via tips. Regardless, what I like most about this practice is that it does not guilt customers/​patrons into leaving a tip. This also frees them up to providing excellent customer service just for the sake of being awesome without expecting anything in return.

Macarons and chocolate. Does it get any better than that? Of course it does. I’ve passed by this place a million times while traveling on 1604, but so glad I was able to finally stop in. They have a large variety of chocolate and some awesome flavored in macaroons that I couldn’t quite resist. Best macarons in the area, for sure.
It’s easy to believe these place has treats are satisfy your sweet tooth perfectly, but I was also impressed greatly with their service and packaging. The man, who might been the owner, pointed out that I should check in on Unilocal to get a couple of free chocolates — he totally didn’t have to do this, but he did. That’s the kind of service that keeps a girl coming back. Even with the little we bought, the packaging was top notch — full with a box and ribbons. I always appreciate the time and effort owners put into their things.
I can’t wait to be back (once I’m not fending off sugar, of course)! Super, duper recommend this place. Yum.

Ignacio and his team are wonderful! I discovered them when an employee of mine surprised me with the best cake I’ve ever had my whole life! It was beautifully decorated and tasted delightful. Then I got someone one … A Spurs cake! Then it turned me using every holiday to give them a call! The quality is amazing and service is wonderful! I also used them for my work parties as well! The pricing is reasonable! The macaroons are delish! So sad that I moved to Las Vegas… but when I visit San Antonio… I’ll be stopping by for a sweet treat!

Really wonderful chocolate. I mean truly spectacular. I bought the dark chocolates from here for a friend just to prove to him that it’s as close to his proclaimed best-​chocolate-​in-​the-​world is from Belgium and he finally agreed.
