I turned back, I saw the waitress bringing out our food(me and my gf) my heart started racing adrenaline pumping through my veins. The food is plopped down in front of us and my jaw dropped at how big the portions were, I took my first bite and entered a state of total bliss, was I in heaven or was I still on earth only God could tell, then came the second and third bite which left me in a state of shock, i thought to myself«how could you betray me like this orange chicken! You were like a brother to me, I LOVEDYOU!!!» The chicken was so mushy it almost felt as if I were eating mashed potatoes. The service was bad as well

I’ve been a regular at this restaurant for a few years maybe a decade or so lol. It’s inexpensive and they serve you a huge plate and it tastes good. I highly recommend it for lunch or dinner.

The prices are excellent because the food is not very great. We both got dinner specials for 5.99, and I also got an order of crisp noodles(which were friend wonton wrappings), and an order of cheese rangoons. I ordered it to-go, but the line was busy every time I called, took about 10 minutes of checking back just to place an order. We both got orange chicken and it’s a lot of food, but like I said, it was meh. The fried rice isn’t fried rice, it really just looks like they put a scoop of sesame oil over white rice in your to go container. I would like to try this place again, but definitely something different. Egg rolls are pretty good though. Cheese rangoons, too much wonton wrapper and not enough cheese.

This could be a 5 star place if they cleaned the place more. Lol but anyway I’m here to rate the food not the building. So this Chinese restaurant is not bad at all a true solid 4 stars. The portions are generous and when you take then home and re-heat them up, they still taste great. My favorite dish are the lomein noodles yummy yummy! Everything else here taste great so don’t be shy and give it a go. Also a small tip is to go not at peak hours but then again that could be said about any place really.

This would be the best Chinese restaurant in San Antonio if they would put more emphasis on cleanliness. The flavor of the food is impeccable and they try their best to expedite service when there is a large influx of customers, but they get overwhelmed when it happens. It seems they are keeping it in the family in-turn keeps staffing low. Lastly, they probably could use larger establishment to handle the swarms.

Great food, HUGE portions, nice staff, great prices. I don’t know why people say the place is dirty, sees decent to me, but I haven’t used their restroom yet so idk if that’s what their talking about. BUT that shouldn’t stop you from coming here.

China star is that place you go to when you’re broke and need to fill the gut up. The portion sizes don’t really compare to anywhere else. The food is actually pretty decent, I haven’t spent the next day on the John, that’s a good sign. The owner lady can come off as rude, but she is pretty cool, don’t let it get to you. You gotta be hard on that side of town, people try to step up to you and what not. Anyways, I recommend this place, don’t let the shotty outside appearance discourage you!

Large portions and really good lunch prices. $ 5 for their lunch plates which come with rice, an egg roll and soup. It’s nothing SUPER special but for Americanized Chinese food I would say it was pretty good. I have been there multiple times now and will probably go back again.

Service is great. Been to other places in the area and the service is mediocre to say the least. The server is amazing and is always on top of drink refill. The food is great. A definite if looking for not just you typical fried Chinese food.

China Star has great lunch and dinner specials. The portions are huge. Really almost family style. They’re near the Medical Center and right off the 410. So if you’re in a rush this is a good option. You’re welcome to seat yourself and the service is very prompt and quick. If you like being pampered — its not going to happen. Sorry cupcake. The ice tea was bitter and I haven’t gone enough to decide if this is a hit or miss. Most things on the menu are fried. This is not your go to if you’re watching your waist line. The Egg Drop soup was okay but had a slightly scalded flavor. Like a burnt cooking pot… Maybe. It was still okay. The fried rice was more like a chicken fried rice, which was fine and tasty. The Lemon Chicken was good. Think giant chicken nuggets with a dipping sauce and the House Special Lo Mein was slightly greasy but tasty. If you’re in a rush or just need something fatty and comfort food-like, this is your jam.

Ordered the lemon chicken, tastes good. The place is a little run down but don’t mind as long as the food is on point. Came on a Saturday evening around 630, got my food within ten minutes. The waiter with the glasses is a polite man who got my order. I will come back to try the beef and broccoli soon.

They lady in the front is extremely rude when called to order was not understanding what I was saying when asked to repeat order hung up phone. The. Went into the restaurant asked to repeat order still was unwilling kept saying $ 15.00 asked I wanted make sure right before paying she stated whatever pay later I bring out plates and show you. Only time have problems is when this lady in front is working. Other than that good.

For $ 5 lunch special… it’s pretty good. However, this is the epitome of a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant. Don’t expect great service, or phenomenal food… but do expect a great price for pretty good food and really fast. You can be in and out in 15 mins for a quick lunch!

I have had a love n hate with this place… I would come here years ago, and could never quite like anything I ordered… So I completely stopped going for many years… Then one day my friend asked me to go… Well I’ve been going back since then… I have taken my family as well n they all like it as well… I really enjoy the one male waiter they have… He is very friendly n funny… I’ve learned it’s not good to go at the busy times… Noontime n right when dinner starts there, which is at 5… The place is chaotic n dirty tables everywhere… It’s difficult I’m sure for that male waiter, he pretty much is the only one waiting tables… Don’t know why, but that’s how it is… Must say he really works hard though… The food is definitely not the best… They give you food for days… Like literally, each plate has a ridiculous amount of food… Leftovers for sure… The beef is tender, so is the chicken… Bonus points for deveining their shrimp… I go to upscale restaurants that don’t do that… This last visit though, my daughter said her plate had an odd taste… So I tasted it, it tasted like the beef was not fresh… She liked the broccoli, but she didn’t want to just eat broccoli… For the price, you get a lot… The dinner is around $ 5.99 n for dinner, you get an extra choice of chicken wings, crab rangoon, or sweet n sour pork… They don’t give you the sweet n sour sauce with it… Both lunch n dinner come with a soup, egg roll, and rice… No tea, but it’s 93 cents… I like anything with mixed vegetables, combo lo mein, lemon chicken, if a plate is not spicy I ask for it to be spicy… If you’re craving Chinese n low on funds or really hungry, or both… Try China Star!

Crowded and dumpy looking just as a hole in the wall should be! Despite the negative reviews the food here is quite edible, and for the ridiculously low prices it just can’t be beat. If you go around 12 be warned the crowd gets large and seating will be limited.

It won’t win any Chinese cuisine awards. They won’t take the coveted«clean restaurant» award. And perhaps they’re not the most delightful attendants. But the food is substantial. It falls over the edge of the plate and whatever is inside, it sure does taste satisfying. It is quite a lot of food for a mere $ 5. I want them to stay around even though they have their limitations for the days when I’m counting my pennies. They have many customers who come to get their cheap Chinese fix so it is sometimes hard to find a table. If you are a prude, don’t show up. If you’re not, sit down when somebody gets up or somebody else will. The attendants will come along in a minute and take the dirty plates while taking your order.

This place is everything I love about America, immigrants working their butts off to make a living in a new land; not the cleanest of spaces, but you get a lot of food for a small amount of money. For lunch I got a combination plate I got to choose two different entrée items I chose Sweet and Sour Pork, and General Tao Chicken,(both classic authentic chinese recipes I’m sure… Lol) with fried rice and Crab Meat Rangoon’s all for $ 6.50. The service is kinda slow, but I think they know that because my first visit I asked for three tea refills, on my 2nd visit I was simply brought a pitcher of tea. Great place for lunch! I would recommend it to anyone who’s into fast, cheap, Americanized chinese food.
